Per core CO is still available on my CH8 with AGESA 1.2.0.0.

My experience so far is that AGESA 1.2.0.0 (final, non beta) has been the best BIOS release for Zen 3 yet. I haven't had a single error for the last 35 days and counting, which is a first for Zen 3.
*
I don't doubt that it's the most stable (unless you have a RTX 3090 and a VR setup then you might get "blessed" with Bonchi's issue) - just that Asrock apparently omitted it from my motherboard's BIOS from what some posters said. Oh well... CI8 wasn't easily available, nor was it well priced to import from overseas when I was buying.

I don't have a 3090, but I do have a 3080 with a VR setup. No connectivity issues for me. Ironic enough nvidia drivers are the ones causing issues for VR instead lol.

Neither had any with the load of DACs and amps that I test on a weekly basis. Also have several arcade sticks and a simple racing rig too, all never had connectivity issues.
*
Heard it's related to higher overall bandwidth use, hence why it's more common for bonchi to get his errors after swapping to RTX3080.

I heard the same for VR posted by a few people. I know Ampere has driver issues with VR, not sure if the posters saying VR affects it was on 2080 Ti though.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Mar 9 2021, 01:42 PM)
Huh? Who said so?

My opinion is that 5800x remains a stupid CPU because of its price being so close to 5900x. The latter also suffers less from temp hotspot, meaning better PBO and less irritating fan ramp fluctuations.

If you only need an 8 core, get a 10700k instead at this point or wait for RKL.
*
5800X is more common making it easier to buy, presumably because AMD is dumping lots of failed 5950X chips with one CCD in deep sleep. Many 5800X units apparently have a CCD2 sensor reported on HWinfo. Igor's Lab mentioned he found this several weeks ago with the HWinfo dev.

QUOTE(xKeneshirox @ Mar 9 2021, 01:57 PM)
That was what I thought. I think i've just been browsing around a lot looking at other people builds, and sorta noticed there's a lot more 5800x than ya, know, 5600x or other ones
*
QUOTE(raydenex @ Mar 9 2021, 04:09 PM)
I got a 5800x for about RM 2130 (slightly above its RM 2049 MSRP) as well back in late December when the 5900x was nowhere to be found for MSRP. Initially if you're comparing 5800x at RM 2049 to the 5900x at RM 2499 (was the MSRP 2449, 2459 or 2499, my memory fails me), then yes no way in hell I'd go for a 5800x, make so little sense even from a price point, we haven't even start talking about the temperature issues that were cropping up online specific to the 5800x.

Then I got the 5800x, installed it, used it and... pleasantly surprised. Cooled by an EK AIO 240, CP2077 load temps never breach 70c. Idles at 40-41c, and with my room A/C on, I've seen idles at 33c even. Most likely got a golden sample I guess.

user posted image
*
What temps are you seeing without A/C? Thinking of getting the EK AIO as the non-RGB one is rather cheap.

Also, does CTR 2.0 report your chip as a golden sample after it tests your CPU?

AMD says a BIOS fix for the USB issue is coming in April... I wonder what the "fix" really entails?

Anyone with Zen 3 CPU here can check their CPU Core Voltage (SVI2 TFN) using HWinfo and mainboard model?
I wonder if this is specific to Zen 3.  hmm.gif
*
Mine is hovering around 1.3V, rare drops to 1.0-1.2V. It's not truly idle though, HWInfo, MSI Afterburner, couple other apps are still running. No WHEAs reported since I was tuning Curve Optimizer early last month.

GTX 970 is a 150+W TDP card, it would be rather poor for the PSU if it's already overloading from that.

Intel can squeeze XE igpu even in 14nm RKL, ryzen is nope, damn...

For Windows 10, you can install it without license, can use as long as you want if dont customize it and can live with the watermark lol.
*
The watermark can be removed with some tweaks.

Ryzen integrated GPU? AMD's design is at fault, their CPU dies are designed to be cheap to manufacture so they can always compete against Intel on price if they want.

Never happened on Google Meet ; when gaming (4-5 hrs direct)

But when on MS Teams.. sometimes in less than half hour.. crashed..blue screen

The only O/C is RAM from 3200 to 3600.. but if really RAM .. why other program doesnt crash?

What blue screen error did you get?

TSMC reported to have increase silicon price at 25% by the end of this year.

Should I grab 5600X @ RM1599 (RM200 above MSRP) right now???

This is a sad year for PC enthusiasts.
EDIT:

I also want to blame AMD for not keeping MSRP Ryzen 5 Zen3 as previous Zen2 (5600X is twice the price as 3600).

Now 3600 used also sells like new set.
*
If you don't already own a compatible AM4 mobo for that 5600X, no.

AMD has no reason to drop MSRP by the way - they sell literally everything they can release, considering the global shortages. Scalping just raises the prices even further.

Too bad I already have a PC built with B450 board (with 5000 series Bios compatible update)

This was built as my pre-graduate gift in 2019

The spec for both CPU and GPU are simply to work as a placeholder for a better spec when I got job later.

But then 2020 happened.

Until today I'm still rocking with my used 2200G and RX580.

And the CPU really starting to become bottleneck in 1080p gaming.
*
The 2200G can be overclocked to around 3.9GHz somewhat easily which can help reduce the CPU bottleneck. I would suggest waiting it out until CPUs are more widely available before upgrading.

RX580 can still hold somewhat at 1080p if you're not looking for very high FPS. Also with crypto being at an alltime high, if your electricity bill tier is still low you might as well consider mining, assuming your card has sufficient VRAM cooling.

you missed early March Amazon 5600x preorder price, arrives quite late tho.

user posted image

there's still taobao units anyway if you really want a 5600x, last i checked was RM1455 for boxed units in January.
*
Waited for this for so long, ended up with 5800X. Was building when Ampere GPUs were more common than Ryzen 5000 CPUs.

QUOTE(MrSpeedy @ Apr 1 2021, 10:26 PM)
Yeah, now I also feel bad.

I purposely missed the lunch price hoping AMD will release non-X variant CPU (X CPU always tend to be unreasonable expensive during Zen 2)

Now with the silicon shortage, this will become far worse each and every day passed.
ANYWAYS

I'm in a little bit dilemma, should I got for 8 cores 5800x or stick to mainstream 6 cores 5600x?

Because I'm worried with 2 things:

1. Current gen console now running in 8-cores CPU, I afraid future games will have better utilization on 8-cores compared to 6-cores.

2. 5800x has high TDP with minimal performance gain (take note, I'm on SFF built, so temp quite necessary, I watch many YT reviewer that 5800x not worth for its price due to high power usage and high temp, but can LYN users give opinion on this, so far I see people OC their 5800x, but not yet undervolt (negative PBO) on that CPU. Refer here.
*
3700X was reasonably priced, same with 3900X.

Multicore may work better with more optimized code for multicore systems, but at the same time faster IPC can also offset that. See how Xbox One and PS4 have 8 cores - but even a Sandy Bridge quadcore beats it in a true apples to apples benchmark of any multiplatform game that has optimized code for all platforms. A 5600X runs close enough to a 3700X in multithreaded benchmarks, so I wouldn't be worried.

5800X is doing decent with Curve Optimizer on a lowly NH-C14S, takes on anything except Prime95 without turbo clocks hitting a wall. I presume results will be better if you have an AIO or a better air cooler, and even more so if you have an offset bracket mount for the cooler. The CPU runs with higher multithreaded clockspeeds than other Ryzens out of the box, so tuning Curve Optimizer is definitely mandatory for it. But to be honest, main reason to get it is only because the 5900X is ultra rare together with the 5950X.

What's the cheapest RAM kit that one can buy from within Malaysia, and can be pushed to 3733-4000 1:1 speeds with decent timings? Last kit I bought was a Crucial revE kit from Amazon, but prices have went up quite a bit since then. Was wondering if there's anything cheaper than a Klevv Bolt XR that isn't too reliant on luck with die type/silicon lottery when buying.

Just upgraded to 5800x, should i be worried about the temp?

Idle 45-55
Full load 75-90 (depending on apps)

Enable PBO mode, apply Curve Optimizer with a low negative offset as much as possible before the CPU becomes unstable when doing stability testing. You should see a slight reduction in temps, if it still hits 90C, you should see higher clockspeeds on the cores at those temps anyway.

QUOTE(Bonchi @ Apr 4 2021, 01:04 PM)
Inb4 someone says AMD hate again.

AMD is generally hot because of the very high density 7nm, and that the chiplets are not in the center on the die so it cause thin microfin Waterblocks to work harder... but results on heatsinks will be way better on AMD... especially those with really chunky base blocks like noctuas.

You see better temps on intel especially on AIO because of the monolithic die and generally intel is very cool within the effecient range of 4-4.7ghz. Going above 5ghz will be a different story.
*
Even with a Noctua cooler you'd need a top of the line one to match or beat a 240 AIO regardless with Zen2/3. Seen SFF forums for my case - X53 always beats the C14S(with three fans) regardless. The 5800X also is the hottest of Ryzen CPUs anyway, since it runs at high clocks out of the box unlike the others, leading to high per-core power consumption.

The point still stands anyway - chunky base blocks are the best option, but even then some heatpipes on that air cooler will be warmer than others based on my experience with a C14S on my 5800X.

@mdzaboy Curve Optimizer wouldn't result in much temp reduction as boost clocks may go higher as a result of the negative offset. Maybe try fiddling with PPT, EDC values etc and reduce them slightly to compensate?

Stocks are ok in malaysia too. Just the msrp is not. Even in US it is sold around 400 USD on amazon I also just checked taobao... 1.3k is bundle prices. Alacarte still around 1.4-1.5k and it's subjected to SST when it arrives... so not much cheaper than buying locally.
*
$400 for 5600X is scalper third party prices fulfilled by Amazon. Amazon first party prices for 5600X is $300, but that comes off and on.

Any first hand experiences with B450 ITX boards? Building a SFF rig mostly for Davinci Resolve, and on a tight budget (since it's not meant for me). I currently have a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro ITX, but I'm wondering if selling that and going for a B450 board can save money without running into a host of issues in the process. CPU that'll be paired with it is a 3700X.

all B450 itx board has crappy VRM except the MSI B450I that I had and even that it was running pretty hot. Since you plan to use 3700X, you must get this MSI.
However it has a buggy bios that will eat away your pci-e X16 lane to X8 when an m.2 is used, which prompted me to change to a B550.
*
Sounds like the M2 lanes are pulled from PCIE x16 lanes for the GPU, which is weird since Ryzen is designed with 16 lanes for conventional PCIE cards and 4 for NVME.

I've ruled out the Asrock for crappy VRM + heatsink, as the B450 board looks like their B350 one just with a chipset change. Not sure about the Gigabyte or Asus ones though.

Just use the aorus pro itx. No need to waste time with older b450 boards. The pro itx doesn't use doublers. It's pure 6+2 phase direct. It will work great with 3700x.
*
Yup this B550 would work great even with a 5950X, I'd reckon. Was wondering if trading down for a B450 board is worth saving a few hundred bucks, since this is a budget build. Guess I'll stick to it.
