72 hour blotter
Mobil 1 New Life 0W40 (Tesco) MB229.5
Oil Life : 15,795 km (72 hour blotter)
ODO :309,625 km in
Car model: Toyota Avanza 1.3L
Engine: K3VE Multi Port Injection
Added some 100 mL of graphited engine oil
[attachmentid=10593503]
[attachmentid=10593504]

Absence of structures such as darkened centre zone , darkened perimeter ring/aureole and outermost translucent zone which means good news for the used oil .

Diffussion zone is grayish but not darkened yet and , darkened jagged starbursts edge indicates presence of water moisture which theoretically promotes corrosion wear which IMO, is harmless for now by looking at the blotter spot .

Meanwhile ................. keeps going .

added ELF Molygraphite engine oil ?

Yes, spot on . notworthy.gif

Somehow I felt good with this mixing , engine seems smoother and quieter than without and ,likes its blotter spot performance so far despite Covid-19 MCO .

Just curious. Why not LM MOS2? Been happily using this for over 10 years (I only add one-third bottle every lube change).

I tried L.M Ceratec or L.M MoS2 Leichtlauf in the past also can't came close with my Amsoil Signature performance ..

Must be the graphite but am wary as don't know if it is fine enough not to block the oil channels and/or oil filters.

Confident in LM MOS2 as read extensively on Bob Is The Oil Guy that the MOS2 used are fine enough to not block these.

Yep , I heard about graphite powder from bitog as a kind of solid lubricants .

I consider this Elf Molygraphite as a form of solid lubricant in this trial .

To my surprise it's mixing (of about 100 mL) runs smoother and quieter . Hence intending to continue this mixing practice to use up the unused Elf , never mind the Euro OEM approved oils I have been using is itself a fully formulated oil supposedly doesn't require additional oil additives .

Besides I'm also quite happy with its blotter spot performance .

Does it work smoother and quieter for you with this LM adding ?

Personal experience, Yes (but others may not say the same).

But bear in mind, many high end lubricants already added small amount of moly into it's formulation. I add extra for my own reasons and use.

I use this LM MoS2 additive too, but only on lower grade semi-syn EO. Never used on SHU as I personally feel it would be downright a waste when SHU already has tri-nuclear Moly.

But actually I am using Tan Chong's label of MoS2, which is an OEM label of LM. Can find it online in Lazada/Shopee at a price that was cheaper than LM itself. Same smooth/quieter feeling as LM.

True that M1 0W40 or SHU 5W40 already have some friction modifiers in Moly and Boron and fully formulated . Amsoil SS 5W30 has a lot more than M1 and SHU above .
Not quite need extra from mixing in a way .

However , semisyn or mineral oil that comes without Moly and/or Boron additives would benefit more from the marginal addition of Elf Molygraphite or LM MoS2 in reduction of friction if not smoothness .

Hi PoS ,

Sorry for late response .

At 2000 km usage in 2005 Myvi 1.3L , unfortunately this Syntium (3000) 5W30 has some 'structures' which in a way is a bit unusual .

There is absence of darkened centre zone (of about 8-9 mm diameter) which is typical in used oil of low mileage below say , 2000 km .

However, for its usage it is a bit grayish (right side picture) which IMO is harmless for now .

It is a bit strange you have a clearly visible and a bit darkened perimeter ring aka aureole zone which indicates commencement of agglomeration of combustion by-products and contaminants/dirts at such low mileage .

This may indicate the dispersancy/detergency quality/performance of this 2000 km used oil is not really in tip top condition as it should .

The diffusion zone is generally fine and normal except it is a bit grayish for its age .

There is no sign of darkened jagged starburst shape edge outside of diffusion zone indicating normal typical condition of absence of water moisture in this 2000 km used oil .

The outermost zone of halo translucent display indicates relatively (and potentially abnormal) severe fuel dilution issue indicating poor driving habits on the part of drivers and/or relatively poor condition of the engine .

Btw, do you take the above oil sample when cold , like after 5-10 minutes of short driving and/or waited more than half an hour after engine shut down ?

If so, try retake another blotter sample within 10 minutes after engine shutdown AND after a reasonably long distance drive of at least 20 minutes or 20 km highway or smooth traffic . This may help throwing some light on the mechanical condition of your car's fuel delivery or combustion system and its performance .

Hi,

My above comments on your 2000 km used oil blotter in 2005 Myvi 1.3L more or less applies here .

These 500 km blotters in Viva 660 cc look a bit strange (as it is relatively grayish) although the used engine oil is still in good and serviceable condition IMHO .
