QUOTE(wkc5657 @ Feb 17 2020, 11:13 AM) Sure , your pleasure .The Centre Zone of about say, 8 mm has not heavily darkened and became opaque, hence it has not formed yet from the agglomeration and coagulation of combustion products . The Perimeter Ring of about say, 10 mm annulus ring surrounding the Centre Zone has not formed or visible with darkened colour. Both the above shows no trace of agglomeration and coagulation of combustion products in this Urania LS mid-SaPS HDEO at 5000 km . The complete circle of Outer Diameter 20 mm of light grayish colour indicating quite an even distribution of all the dirts and contaminants of combustion . Exterior to the above 20 mm OD circle shows light yellow colour and looking transparent, indicating very low level of contaminants and dirts in the used oil . Overall, this blotter spot indicates the detergency and dispersancy properties of this 5000 km used oil is still in tip top condition . IMHO it is still serviceable for another several thousands of km . Btw, this mid-SaPS Petronas Urania LS 15W40 has a very powerful specs in CJ4/ E9 etc . Note:May I know the (petrol) engine type in use here and its current odometer readings ? This post has been edited by zeng: Feb 17 2020, 05:01 PM |

QUOTE(OvenBaked @ Feb 18 2020, 01:54 AM) What your comment on normal car using hdeo? I have been using HDEO 15W40 in my wira and Avanza for many many years .btw i use this car for street race, little modified here and there, sometime redline till rev limit, gearbox manual HDEO's are fine for non-Euro petrol engines, IMO . CJ4 HDEO's is smart selection in your 'harsh' context , and you appear to be well informed . Note:Lately I switched to readily available semisyn and fullsyn 'PCMO' Euro oils for its frequent promotional price . This post has been edited by zeng: Feb 18 2020, 11:14 AM |

Personally, I have no qualms going for 10,000 km oci or more and comfortable about it . Your comfort level may vary though . |

QUOTE(Thrust @ Feb 18 2020, 08:11 PM) If you mean the local Petronas version of Syntium 3000 series 5W30 , it has stronger spec (than SN/SM) in Dexos 1 Gen 2 .GM approves this oil up to 10,000 miles (16,000 km) oil change intervals in States . If you mean this imported Petronas Syntium 3000 FR 5W30 , it has stronger spec (than SN/SM) in Ford 913D specification . Ford US too approves this oil for up to 10,000 miles (16,000 km) oil change intervals . In Asian/US engines, use these 2 oils with peace of mind even with above stipulated oci . There is no sign of fuel dilution problem , as seen from the absence of outermost translucent zone/annulus . There is also absence of darkened centre zone (of about 8 mm diameter) and absence of perimeter zone (of about 10 mm outer diameter OD) ,which are good news, probably due to a very low level of combustion contaminants and still-high performance levels of detergency and dispersancy of the used oils . The very slight grayish and light colour of the Diffusion zone indicates very low level of dirt/contaminants after 11,933 km usage , with very high level of residual detergency/dispersancy capabilities of the used oil . I would speculate the internal cleanliness of this 2009 Honda City engine is very clean and /or this HX8 5W30 is performing in top shape/form ,or both . IMHO, this 11,933 km used oil is still serviceable and fit for continuing service . Yes, I'm aware you'd replace the oil with Amsoil which is another good (but expensive) engine oil . |

Can I know if you are able to tell how will a new oil perform by watching blotter test before it's even used in the engine? I bought a mobil 1 esp 5w30 from shoppee seller name 88autogarage, but the oil is so much different from original oil in terms of color, viscosity feeling, and smell. I put them side by side for for 24 hours to check if it is due to original oil is old and oxodized. The stink smell of the oil from shopper seller seems reduce a bit after 24 hrs but I will keep there for monitoring purpose. When asking the shopper seller, he says the oil from Europe so different batch would have different and suggest me to do lab test. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi,
Sorry, I'm incapable to tell its performance from virgin oil blotter spot which is form of qualitative test . However this Long Life oil has super duper specifications and OEM approvals in VW 50400 50700 MB 229.52 ACEA C3 etc , if genuine . The approvals carry with it OEM approved oil change interval up to 30,000 km in respective OEM applications . https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbth...-507-oil#UNREAD This post has been edited by zeng: Mar 20 2020, 01:15 PM |

QUOTE(tanalvis @ Mar 20 2020, 06:07 PM) Toyota Vios 2008 2nd gen (dugong) Hi mate,Current odo: 160,125 km Date: 20/3/20 Blotter time: after ard 50 hours Oil age: 1,020 km Engine oil: shell helix ultra 5w40 There is absence of darkened centre zone (typically of about 8-9 mm diameter) and darkened perimeter ring surrounding it , which is good news in itself . The diffusion zone is very lightly gray indicating very low levels of combustion contaminants/dirt within the used oil . It also indicates high capacity in detergency/dispersancy properties . However, the translucent outermost zone indicates there is sign of duel dilution which requires monitoring in this 1020 km used oil . Anyway this Helix Ultra 5W40 has very high specs in MB 229.5 VW 50200 50500 A3B4 and it has plenty of life to go on in your Vios , IMHO . |
