Looking at your siggy, you're not running on SSD ?
I recall last time I have similar freezing when I have my old hdd connected, not affecting overall performance as OS on SSD, but reading file stored on old hdd does cause random system freezes.

Happens to me often especially when the HDD sleeps. So when the PC starts to access it, the drive starts to spin up and that freeze the PC. It's kinda dumb - I thought we had multi tasking OS these days... but yeah.

Since I turn off sleeping on HDD, this stopped happening.

Depends if you have multiple HDD.. one of the HDD which is not where your games are install, could be sleeping.

I see. Btw, I'm using just 1 HDD.

Can't wait to go home and do troubleshooting. bangwall.gif

But I think I'l disable or delete nVidia HD sound thingy and try again. Hopefully don't need to format the whole pc.

I think might be with the motherboard chipset or driver. Last time I had 2 SSD + 3 HDD, random slowdown if accessing files on HDD. Now new system I use external hdd for file storage purpose, no more issue.

Best of luck. If you said started after upgrade to 1070, might be good idea to check nVidia driver laugh.gif

After upgrading still okay. Got mirco stutter but now it is getting worst. Still can play games on it. Just that you doesn't know when it will hit you.

Is it okay to use DDU to uninstall the nVidia driver?

I never use before heard it's ok. Windows will roll back to generic display driver, no issue.

I think depends on luck.
I had the infamous-high-failure-rate Seagate 3TB hdd, failed one month after warranty end bangwall.gif all my pirated movie/songs/p0rn gone, full 2.5TB of it sweat.gif There's class action filed at US and owner get compensation, not here doh.gif
Then I had a 160GB Seagate, still spinning after over 5 years of torrent abuse, still running in my Ryzen rig for torrent download.

i thought its a default settings for primary HDD on every new window installation.
i'll go disable the turn off screen/screen saver/HDD/monitor everytime after a new format.

that Seagate 3TB - is a famous problem. and most ppl said it only happen to capacity above 2TB from seagate. this is one of the reason i did not get Seagate 3TB but instead Toshiba 3TB.
and WD Green become "slow" WD Blue....

don't think so. I think Temperature is no.1 HDD killer.
my dying WD reach 50C while the other sub<40C. altho i sandwich 3 together, hence higher temp in long run kill it i guess.

if got micro stutter, try check if you are using any fps limiter program.

used to having super annoying micro stutters in games (elder scrolls online in particular), lots of troubleshooting done, turns out the evga precision X fps limiter causes it. i set it on 60fps, but the game stutters like hell even on low settings.
