Err. 50 quid note is perfectly legal in the UK. So 20 is not the largest note. British use cards because it's so convenient. Everywhere accepts cards, even small sundry shops at any corners. And nobody bats an eye when you use card to pay for something that costs like 4 or 5 pounds. Many ATMs have no charge whatsoever even if your card is not from that bank. Online transfers to all banks are instantaneous and free. We are moving towards that way, gradually.
