Edit:- The things inside the spoiler is my old question..Now I know what's EDGE, how to subscribe and whats the speed "/

How to subscribe and setup?:-
- Go to your nearest DiGi center, ask them that you want to subscribe to unlimited data plan [RM 99 per month]
- You'll need at least 21 y.o and above [lol, I didn't know this until the DiGi spokesman told me about this when I want to sign up..[of coz, I'm 21+../sweats../old]
- After you sign up, you'll need wait for the activation, normally half in hour or within 2 days [thanks mumeichan for told me this "/]
- Just make sure you have EDGE enabled phone, I'm using Nokia 6230i as the modem.
- Whats the configurations? It's same with GPRS configuration settings, just dial *128#, select Mobile Services-> GPRS-> Unlimited Plan-> Settings.
- After you got the settings and activated it, you're ready to go ^^".

Connecting to your computerp:-
- Install Nokia PC Suite.
- Connect your phone to your computer, and open Nokia PC Suite, and select Connect to the Internet, then select DiGi Malaysia and click Connect.
- Or alternatively, you can always create a new connection with dialing number is: *99#, with blank username and password.

Download Speed: Up to 29.5kb/s or 236kbps
Upload Speed: 5kb/s or 40kbps

Please do remember, this is not 3G.. /sweats

3G coming soon to the place near you:

My friend just subscribed to DiGi's unlimited data plan, which uses EDGE enabled phone to connect to the internet [his phone is 6230i, connected using usb cable]

Some questions I wanted to ask are[since I might getting EDGE, coz tmnut lazy to installs streamyx in my area sad.gif]:-
- How do I know I connected to EDGE and not GPRS?
- The speed sometime unstable, like suddenly 20kbps dl speed, then suddenly drops to 3kbps dl speed sad.gif?

Oh, btw, I live in Kch.

Last time, the DiGi's person here said as long the area got full signal bar, then that area got covered by EDGE? Is this true?..I'm confused T_T
*
How much do you need to pay monthly for the DiGi's unlimited data plan?

In the Data Plans page of the Digi website it says RM33/month but in the FAQ page it says RM99 is charged monthly.

Thanks.

my friend using it now..sometime can get 23k dl speed

but bad side is the upload speed is terrible, and always timed out when trying to upload an image file to imageshack or photobucket /sweats/

Kameshikarin: RM 99 is for the unlimited plan, RM 25 is only for 6MB data usage..uh..RM 33?..not sure

Thanks GameSky for the reply. Now I see, if you subscribe to a supplementary data plan as well then I'll cost RM33 per month.

With 6230i, look at "G" symbol on the screen (top left corner).

Plain G = GPRS.
G with square box around it = EDGE.

I always find the latency horrible using Digi. Okay for checking email and surfing web, but not for anything interactive.

who told you that squared-G is EDGE?

the fact is:
G means connecting
squared-G means connected

I checked the phone manual. Looks like I was wrong.

It says plain G means GPRS is available and "always connected" was chosen. Square-G means connection is currently established. There seems to be no indication of whether it's GPRS or EGPRS, or of what the data rate is.

To know if you are on EDGE or GPRS, you can check your phone's indicator if it has one. G is for GPRS and E is for EDGE.

You can download something using a download manager like flash get. If you get 4 bars for signal strength, you can download at 10kBps to 25kBbps. If you are on GPRS, you will be downloading at max 5kBps

If you are on EDGE, lowyat.net main page will load in about 30 seconds. If you are on GPRS, it will probably never load.

If the phone does not move at all, the speed should be very stable. But the speed is very sensitive to the signal strength. In an area of 30x30cm, the signal strength can be from 1 bar to 4 bars. At 1 bars probably your speed is few hundred bytes perseconds to 2k bytes perseconds. At 4 bars, it will be around 18kBps to 25kBps.

B=bytes
b=bits

yes, you can use a datacard
please confirm that your slot is PCMCIA slot
if i'm not mistaken, i saw digi selling for 700-800, but it's edge-capable only

why not?
that's what i'm doing now
but we recommend you to use USB cable for stability
BT seems to dc sometimes

Ic ic. Btw, erm, what is the total bandwidth digi is giving us when we use GPRS/EDGE?

cos if i;'m not mistaken, for maxis broadband, they are limiting it to 3gb per month..So, i wanna know whether digi is doing the same thing or not.

HAve you tried to do speed test using GPRS? how fast can it go?
