To know if you are on EDGE or GPRS, you can check your phone's indicator if it has one. G is for GPRS and E is for EDGE.

You can download something using a download manager like flash get. If you get 4 bars for signal strength, you can download at 10kBps to 25kBbps. If you are on GPRS, you will be downloading at max 5kBps

If you are on EDGE, lowyat.net main page will load in about 30 seconds. If you are on GPRS, it will probably never load.

If the phone does not move at all, the speed should be very stable. But the speed is very sensitive to the signal strength. In an area of 30x30cm, the signal strength can be from 1 bar to 4 bars. At 1 bars probably your speed is few hundred bytes perseconds to 2k bytes perseconds. At 4 bars, it will be around 18kBps to 25kBps.

B=bytes
b=bits

- After you sign up, you'll need wait for the activation, normally within 2 days.

Normally, in half an hour, they will activate it for you.

Digi's EDGE promotion now is great. I think I'm gonna get the dopod M700. 6 month 50% plus the M700 cost only Rm1399 after discount. Plus feee bluetooth headset. Looks like the iClip to me.

mumeichan: Lol, really? coz last time at DiGi centre there, he told me need wait within 2 days for activation :sweats:
*
Officialy it is 2 day, so they will surely say it takes two days. If you go to a digi dealer, specialised store or any normal hp shop it will take 2 day or sometimes more. But dealer have special link with Digi. They can sctivate you line very fast and can cancel your line very fast too and everything is almost instant one. The last time i signed up, they guy said two days. But 30 minutes later, he called me up and say my line activate already.

No

great deal? why dopod M700? hmm.gif
*
Why dopod M700, cos it is the cheapest. I don't really need a powerfull PDA. I just want it to be a modem, phone and something I can use when the size of my laptop is inconvenient or too risky to to use . m700 suits me fine. They have the 838 pro, c800 and another model too.

Actually I am more interested in the data plan than the PDA. I might look for someone who wants the PDA at a discounted price and just I just get the dataplan. I might see if any lowyat members are interested or not.

thank for the info.... rclxms.gif that mean u have to buy the phone from digi in order to get the 50% data plan for the 6 months in addition to the postpaid subscription? rclxub.gif.....i am also keen the 50% data plan only....i will call digi cs to confirm this later hmm.gif
*
If I am not mistaken that is how it goes. Have to buy a phone with a subscribtion for a new postpaid line. Then you can sign up for data unlimited plan plus and get 50% off for six months. You can sign up just for a data unlimited plan without voice plan and it is still considered postpaid.

wanna ask....if i apply for unlimited plan...izzit for a year contract ah? If i use it for a month can??
*
The good thing about Digi is there is no contract. You can sign up today and cancel tomorrow. The only thing is you have to pay M100 advance payment(not deposit) so let's say first month's bill is RM104, then you pay only RM4 at the end of the month cause you already paid RM100 when you sign up.

hi, did you meant that we can subcribe to unlimited data plan ONLY and pay RM99 plus 5% tax NET?  No other monthly subscriptions or charges?  FYI, i'm not a Digi subscriber.  thanx.
*
Yup, Rm99 plus 5% tax nett.

The first month you pay extra Rm10 for some fee , I forgot what already.

If you use Master Card autopay, you save RM10 a month.

only Master card? visa cannot ?

any promotion for digi EDGE now ?
*
Last time I check, I noticed master card only. Maybe Visa can, when you sign up at the Digi Centre (Never go to dealer or specialised store) go and ask them Visa can use or not.

Now as far as I know got 50% promotion for 3 months.

anyone using edge in tmn bukit serdang area?  or does anyone knows how's the coverage there?  the digi contact centre can't give me a definite answer coz they're not sure themselves.  don't want to subscribe to it and later regret. thnx.
*
Right, you can try with prepaid first. Digi staff can't give you definite answer or they will be lying. For example, officialy the area may support EDGE, but so happen, the area where you will use it frequently is an EDGE blind spot. Got signal but no EDGE. So best is to check it yourself with a prepaid card first.

eh..how to check with prepaid card?....

If your phone has an EDGE indicator, then when you are in an area that supports EDGE, the indicator will indicate it. Just like those 3G phones, when you go into a 3G area, a 3G icon comes one. Most new nokia phones from 6230i onwards has this feature. Motorola phones that support EDGE also should have this feature.

If not, you just plug the phone into your computer as a modem. Then run a speedtest, beeslinebandwith, jaring, speedometer, whatever you like. If the speed is good(15-25kBps) then got EDGE lah.

new Digi Edge user here. I was asking bout Digi Wifi but they recommend me to use Edge instead. The CS was at Times Sq. Paid RM100 for registration. They gave me a supplementary sim. Now using Nokia E65 as modem. Looks ok so far. Will update again later.
*
There is no such thing as Digi Wifi. Digi just has an agreement with Airzed. So when you subscribe for Digi Edge unlimited, you get Airzed wireless unlimited as well.

Been so long since I've used EDGE. Now what's the best plan if I want a principal line with voice and sms and a data only supplementary line.

Is it
Principal 66(data) + 30(voice)
Supp 33(data)
