I'm using 890L. I think this router (or get something at this level) can help you. However, best if you have friend and borrow to try it first. I'll recommend Asus AC3200 though since they have a technical support thread here. Assuming you're getting three storey house there might be a lot of people too, so yeah this router.  smile.gif

thats the problem, no ppl that have power router to borrow. have to risk my own money n buy to test. sweat.gif

hah. i tried n14uhp before, doesn't give better performance for me,  sweat.gif
haven't tried anything AC standard yet.

wow your house must be really big. Since you mentioned the powerline thing doesn't work coz different phases, is your house set up to be 1 phase 1 floor?

Sometimes they mix it up a bit. So there might be some plugs somewhere on different floor that might have the same phase. If it works, then connect the 14uhp to the homeplug and set as wireless AP.

Setup LAN cabling to each of the floors and then setup router on each of the floor. Wifi signal does not penetrate thick walls.
You may consider setting up a switch on the ground floor your house. The switch will connect with your ISP modem or router. From switch, the LAN cables will go to the each of the router on each of the floor.

Good morning, everyone! I’m looking for some expert advice or suggestions from anyone who has set up a 3-storey house and figured out the best deco or setup for optimizing performance.

I understand that factors like wall materials and layout play a role, but I’d like to hear about the most effective setups that have worked for others.

Here’s my current setup with Unifi 500 Mbps:
• Ground Floor: Router connected to a TP-Link M9 Plus mesh – Speed: 500 Mbps
• 2nd Floor (Middle Hall): TP-Link M5 mesh – Speed: 100–150 Mbps
• 3rd Floor (Master Bedroom): TP-Link M5 mesh – Speed: 20–30 Mbps (sometimes even lower)

Has anyone researched or implemented a more efficient setup? I’d love to hear your insights. Thanks in advance!

Based on my experience, if use all M9 Plus speed will be double.
Ground Floor- M9 Plus 500 Mbps
2nd Floor- M9 Plus 150-250 Mbps
3rd Floor- M9 Plus 50-100 Mbps
Maybe bcoz tri-band.

When internet already 50-100Mbps for 1 floor; enough already for home use. (Let say my wife watch 4k netflix in masterbedroom + I use 4k tv for games on 3rd floor hall+ 2-4 phones/ gadgets)@ all on 3rd floor.
Now I am on 1Gbps (due to multiple upgrade speed); not much time different also download PS5 games on 3rd floor when I had 500Mbps.
If my speed down to 20-30 Mbps (which can happen time to time), then I will feel laggy.. Mean it not enough when we use multiple gadgets

Please help. Just move into a three-storey house and I want to know the best way to spread the wifi throughout the whole house. Thanks!

Would something like Orbi be good?

There are many ways to do this :-

Option A

1. If your house already have LAN cables run through each floors, then use any wifi router to configure it as AP mode.
2. Configure the SSID to be the same name & same password on each router so that Smartphone or Laptop will auto-connect to the nearest unit.

Option B

1. If your house don't have any LAN cables.
2. Purchase TP-Link MESH Wifi devices, each floor with its own unit.
3. Depending on the flooring thickness, you may need to buy extra for the "in between floor".
4. Configure the Master unit and adopt all the Slave units.
5. Special Note, each MESH unit need a power-point so you need to ensure there's an extra plug point available.

Option C

1. Lay new LAN cables to each floor's ceiling.
2. Buy TP-Link Omada series AP for each floors with PoE Adapter and mount it to each floor's ceiling.
3. All APs are to connect directly to Router.
4. Main router Wifi must be off to avoid conflicts.
5. Optional but recommended to also installed Omada SDN Application on any of the OLD/UNUSED PC, so you can have a centralized, features rich configuration & overview of your wifi network.

Hope this helps... cool2.gif

I too have 3 storey corner house, but lucky for me the 2nd floor is where I place my 5G modem, Yeacomm sucking high speed from YES 5G.

Here's my setup :
2nd floor - Yeacomm 5G modem, telco YES, line speed 600-800 mpbs. Share out the internet using only Wifi, both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz, with 2 SSID

Ground floor - Xiaomi AX3000 router, set up as bridge network connect to my 5 Ghz SSID from 2nd floor. Sharing out the wifi with a different set of SSID, both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz [2.4G for smart switches, fridge, robot, air purifier]. When my mobile connect to the 5 Ghz network here, line speed 220-300 mpbs

3rd floor - Xiaomi AX1800 (well, I bought this earlier wink.gif ), set up as bridge network connect also to my 5 Ghz SSID from 2nd floor. Sharing out the wifi with the same SSID names as the ground floor, both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz [2.4G for smart switches, fridge, robot, air purifier]. When my mobile connect to the 5 Ghz network here, line speed 150-200 mpbs. Another air purifier connect to the 2.4G network in 3rd floor. Smart TV connect to the 5G network in 3rd floor.

And my children are studying and working outstation, there is usually no one in 2nd floor. So I configured most of my TVs, HP and PC connecting to the SSID for ground floor (which is the same as 3rd floor). When I move up to 3rd floor at night, my HP will also join "the same" wifi network. No connecting loss here smile.gif

Like I said b4; I dont care whether 500Mbps, 800Mbps or 1GBps (I use the latter bcoz free upgrade); very marginal upgrade in reality.
Maximum usage for netflix for 4k TV just up to 25Mbps only. Download PS5 games just time to time only (the different just few minutes only). If top floor get 100Mbps, I also ok already.
Most of gadgets still on Ground floor. 1Gbps is overkill for home use (even for me- 7 persons/house), I have 6 units 4k TVs.
I have wifi 7 router too (unifi free upgrade- but in reality, additional 24 months contract) but many gadgets still on wifi 6. Even PS5 (which use more data) use wifi 6. If phones (most of it already support wifi 7), 5-10Mbps speed already enough (no need 1Gbps).

If someone ask me; 300Mbps or 500Mbps also enough for typical Malaysian home as long that ping is good. As long that, any room not get below 20-30Mbps, it will be fine..

This is what I want to do b4.
We can put ethernet port each floor (typical 3 storey home), then direct connect to AP router.
Can follow electrical route or TV antenna route (which obviously directly will go to top floor ceiling), just pull LAN cable. No need to hack, just follow existing conduit.

But lastly forgo the idea.
I dont see real benefits although it will boost my Tplink Deco speed a little.
Sekarang pun tgk 4k TV xda lag, CCTV also function like normal, average speed around the house 200Mbps+. If I boost it up, to get 1Gbps, I also get basically same thing (bukan nampak gambar lagi clear pun).
Maybe in future la if there is 8k TVs & PS6 8k games, then I will reconsider this idea.

The drawing is a simplified sketch for basic home networking & fundamental to build a full speed multi storey building network.

For your situation, the benefits are:
1) Your can put RG router at suitable storey depends on your choice.

2) Only need 2 APs, each one locate at non RG router level.

3) Your internet speed is 500Mbps for 3 or more storey because the wall socket extend your router full speed LAN port either 1Gbe or 2.5G to AP. In easy word is the cable carry & connect your 500Mbps internet speed direct to your AP. No one tell you right?
