Please help. Just move into a three-storey house and I want to know the best way to spread the wifi throughout the whole house. Thanks!

Would something like Orbi be good?

u`ll need to have a repeater on a place that didnt get the connection.. there is no one device solution

a) repeat the wifi connection (might not be great)
b) multiple hotspot (need to run cable on the house).

also suggest u to pickup the one that have 5ghz band instead of an old 2.4 ghz if u live in densed population..

u can find an example here on the vid, although he is using quite expensive device..

can you run cat6 cabling ? another option would be to transmit the signal through the power line but you need to make sure both sides are on the same electrical phase...

where is your modem going to be located?

For the best result, you would need to consider setting up access point on each floor.

1) a good ac wifi router for main connection
2) buy extra home with wifi capability to extend the existing wifi network to cover the entire house.

best solution.

i encounter this same problem, still haven't solved yet

tried using powerline, but diff phase cant use
tried wifi repeated, got better coverage but speed slow

the only method haven't tried yet is to route LAN cable thru the walls on each floors and setup wifi access point.
i think this method is the most stable and future proof method. especially for multiple storey building with thick walls.
this is also the most troublesome as you have to route the LAN cable, either thru the walls/ceiling

Orbi and other recent Qualcomm based consumer mesh wireless system seems promising if you don't have existing network wiring at different floor for APs, but it is still pricey. But IMO it is much better than using a single white elephant AC5300 router.

invest in wireless ac dual band router. put it in middle floor. hopefully your house less signal absorb / interference material such as thick curtains and glass door or cabinet.

This.

The best is install CAT6 cable to all rooms.
Otherwise prepare to spend 1-2k on a good router.

Wifi signal had trouble penetrating metal and the slab in between floors contain a lot of steel so that's why it doesn't penetrate well.

try getting Asus router with the hp behind the model number.

I'm using RT-N12HP. Signal very strong.

There's also RT-N14UHP with 3 long antennas. Signal even stronger.

There's also RT-AC55UHP if you want dualband.

I'm using 890L. I think this router (or get something at this level) can help you. However, best if you have friend and borrow to try it first. I'll recommend Asus AC3200 though since they have a technical support thread here. Assuming you're getting three storey house there might be a lot of people too, so yeah this router. smile.gif
