try getting Asus router with the hp behind the model number.

I'm using RT-N12HP. Signal very strong.

There's also RT-N14UHP with 3 long antennas. Signal even stronger.

There's also RT-AC55UHP if you want dualband.

wow your house must be really big. Since you mentioned the powerline thing doesn't work coz different phases, is your house set up to be 1 phase 1 floor?

Sometimes they mix it up a bit. So there might be some plugs somewhere on different floor that might have the same phase. If it works, then connect the 14uhp to the homeplug and set as wireless AP.
