Are Toshiba laptops still reliable nowadays? Would it be better to get a Lenovo or an Asus for a budget of RM2500 for university students to-be? How many years do notebooks last before reaching the end of its life? hmm.gif

1. Preferred brand : HP, Dell, Asus, MSI, feel free to recommend others except for Acer. I prefer if the laptop has a Intel/NVIDIA combo.

2. Budget : <RM3000

3. Usage : It'll will be an university laptop which I'm planning to use for programming, web browsing and gaming. Games such as Doom (2016), GTA V can be playable with frame rates (30 FPS) to say the least, higher the better. I don't mind lowering the settings to make it playable.

4. Screen Size : Anything less than 16' inches is good, but feel free to recommend something bigger if it can fit my needs.

5. Battery Life : At least 3 hours of battery life for gaming usage, and longer battery life during casual use when programming and browsing the web, etc.

6. Ports: At least 1 USB 3.0 port on it, and a couple more USB ports. I'd prefer if the laptop also included a DVD drive but I'm fine without it too.

7. Others: The laptop should include Bluetooth 4 and the charging port must be on the left side of the laptop. Other than that, I want the laptop to be easily upgradable in the future like replacing hard drives and stuff. I'd like the laptop to have an SSD+HDD combo on it. If that's not possible for the price, I'm fine with an SSD only laptop but I'd be better if there's a slot that I can insert my SATA HDD later on without removing the SSD making it a SSD+HDD combo. The laptop also must include manufacturer warranty at least from 1 year+ and could be bought at Lowyat Plaza or somewhere near Petaling Jaya or Kuala Lumpur.

Well thanks for reading my post in advance, looking forward to the recommendations you will come up with smile.gif

If you're currently using GTX 965M for GPU, then I would recommend upgrading to GTX 1060 3GB and above since GTX 1050 will perform around the same as that GPU and GTX 1050 Ti not significantly faster than it too.

I can't help you regarding the display for notebooks though, sorry. What I can say is, my G51JX is using TN panel, and movies on it isn't great due to limited viewing angle. But that is TN panel from 2010, maybe they've much improved this year. smile.gif

Thanks for the recommendation. I would want it to be as light as possible subject to the cost constraint. What about Dell XPS ??

2. Budget : Below RM 2.5k
3. Screen Size : 15"
4. Usage : Online / Word processing
5. Feature : Mostly use at home, weight is not an big issue

Currently looking at Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-55Z3 i5-7200/4GB DDR4/1TB/NV940 2GB DDR5/802.11ac/15.6" (RM 2300) but not sure whether is a good buy or not. Comes with 3 years warranty. Looks like a good deal where most brand only 1 year warranty.
