The Star Vijay feed available in Singapore is the same as astro.... STAR India only beams out 1 SD international across Asia, UK etc. Only difference is astro removes the commercial and billboards fr the original feed and probably, inserted their own.

That is called windowboxed, where blacks bars are visible at all corners of the screen. Yes, it is a mistake from Astro side by adding letterbox (top and bottom) of it.

The only solution is change to LB Expand when you see this when watching Xinghe or TVB Classic, at least the picture won't look too small.
*
TVB Xinghe is already available in China and Asia in HD (not indicated on the channel logo though for a simple reason - cable operators who do not want the HD feed will just downscale it to SD. For TVB, this saves them money too as they only need to beam out 1 HD feed for everyone).

On Starhub, TVB XHE is in SD 16:9 full screen per attached. TVB Classic SG feed is still SD 4:3.

Nick, Disney, Toonami are in HD over here (and same thing HD is not indicated on the logo for the same reasons as TVB). CN is an exception, the HD feed is only on Singtel while Starhub is still offering CN SD.

Astro, Turner Partner for Asian Content, Warner TV

Mansha Daswani 3 hours ago

Astro has announced an expanded alliance with Turner Asia Pacific that includes carriage of Warner TV and an initiative to co-own and co-produce Asian content.

The alliance between the two companies encompasses carriage of Warner TV on Astro and the OTT service Tribe.

Henry Tan, COO of Astro, noted, “Our focus is to deepen our involvement in content creation and ownership, particularly in Asian IPs, which will be increasingly pivotal in a market that values strong differentiation. We believe these IPs anchor our value proposition, and are ultimately what customers want and are willing to pay for. We are enhancing the exportability of signature IPs, and are actively seeking distribution in multiple markets through partnerships, as well as our own platforms, such as Astro in Malaysia and Tribe in the region.”

Tan said that Astro and Turner will partner to “own verticals in Asian content. Together, we will explore opportunities to co-develop Asian content for global distribution and raise the bar for better quality Asian content. Additionally, this new venture will also enable us to participate in the revenue distribution generated from Warner TV in the region.”

“We are thrilled to announce that our pan-regional entertainment channel, Warner TV, will debut on Astro and Tribe,” said Phil Nelson, senior VP and managing director for North and Southeast Asia Pacific at Turner International. “The launch is part of a strategic regional partnership that will see us working closely on the channel’s development and reflects both parties commitment to continued investment in content our customers love,”

Warner TV will be available on demand and on linear via Astro GO and Astro TV from May 1.

Astro is a strategic partner for us, as the media group is no stranger to Korean entertainment, having established strong relationships with the major Korean media and entertainment groups with collaboration in Malaysia and beyond. We are thrilled to co-work with Astro in positioning the world’s first and only Korean blockbuster movie channel, tvN Movies, general entertainment channel tvN Asia and our original content amongst its audiences in Malaysia and across the region through multiple platforms to create and deliver new trends with amazing experiences.”

It doesn't sound like its a astro feed for Warner TV .... But the channel will feature some co-production fr both parties.

There are 2 Warner TV feeds now, Warner TV SEA and the other one being Warner TV Philippines - difference being some difference in prime time programs. Is the EPG already uploaded on astro boxes? If you see American Ninja Hero at 7pm on weekdays and not 'The Big Bang Theory', then that is the PHIL feed.

No HD indicated on the channel logo, btw.

Me can open the channel(I"m Variety Pack subscriber). Even it still not start. But i can see coming soon slide... hmm.gif
When i remember correctly, they not stated about "Free Preview" for Warner TV from when?... doh.gif laugh.gif

Oh wait. Dirty business tactic to not give free preview.. mad.gif Bagi tayangan sebulan pun kedekut ker?... laugh.gif
HD.
But the channel EPG just stated "Warner TV". And put with HD logo in "Channel TV Guide"... smile.gif

Not real HD logo. Just appear HD small logo to know that is HD channel. Same like eGG & BOO. Not say eGG HD & BOO HD. But just the channel name. Maybe because nowadays HD logo not be shown on tv... hmm.gif
*
I see .... It's a norm Now for channel providers to drop the HD lettering on their logo.... Look at [V]HD, FMP, FOX Family Movies etc , they dropped the HD lettering to simple bug ao that operators who do not want to offer the ch in HD and downscale to SD on their end.

Channel providers save cost on their part by maintaining only 1 feed/signal.

Yes. The channel provider (TVB) transmits in 16:9. Whenever they show old 4:3 programme, pillar box will be added by them.

Still, Astro will still transmit in 4:3 with letterbox because the feed is in 16:9.

In a nutshell, TVB transmit its feed in 16:9 + add pillarbox during old 4:3 programmes = pillarboxed in 16:9 frame + Astro transmit in 4:3 with letterbox = windowboxed.

I understand better now ..... Window-boxed smile.gif

Astro shld justify how many ppl are actually on legacy box, surely newer boxes outnumbered those on legacy boxes

StarHub cease the old analogue boxes by upgrading those on the old analogue by giving them 2 to 3 months STB waiver and then a discounted rate on the new digital boxes for half a yr to 1 hr, I recall

Yes, joshhd sums it up. Low ratings ch dun get HD status. I saw somewhere, can't rmb where but MTV n HGTV are the lowest ratings chs on astro, hence the possible reason it got downgraded to SD.

MTV Asia is HD on Singtel but not on Starhub .... Why? In SH assessment, music chs dun do well in terms of ratings, hence they dropped [V] Intl ,Nat Geo Music etc and keep MTV in SD. When the MTV exclusitivity deal wif SH ended, SingTel wants those chs hence they could have propose a buy all your chs and offer them in HD terms.... Means they pay more to Viacom.

Thus, u see MTV Live HD, MTV China going over to SingTel instead of being renewed on SH.

For Kids ch, NICK is the highest rated ch on SH versus Cartoon Network. This, CN is still SD while NICK gets upgraded.

As I mentioned previously about the change of aspect ratio of MTV channel, here's how MTV channel on Astro looks like now.

This is how it looks like when I press "change viewing format" button.

It's 1 tiny step forward I guess.

Yes, make frens with both sides of competition means more income. Even the astro AEC programs (on Starhub E-City) and Hua Hee progs (on Starhub and Singtel) are on both operators. Win win for everyone.
