I've placed FD with Ambank this morning. Few hours later, I received a weird Whatsapp msg asking me whether Im interested in looking for a part time job. After lunch, I received call from oversea number, of course i didnt answer.

Do any of u encounter such issues after placing FD & etc?
*
Yes, when I placed with Maybank a few years ago (brand new number acquired less than a week)

I dont think the banks provide FD certificate.  If you look carefully, it is just an acknowledgement of receipt for placement in FD.  It is not a FD certificate
*
That's right.

So far, I know Bank Rakyat still provide actual FD certificate

RHB only provide acknowledgement receipt

By end of the year , we should see FD rates of 4% or more to prevent further devaluation of Ringgit

Is this the norm? Does eFD always get a lower rate compared to over the counter? I've been using eFD for so many years I never even bothered with over the counter FD rates, maybe I should reconsider.
*
Over the counter are always higher than e-FD because they can try to sell u trust fund and bullshit that it's almost the same as FD but higher interest like 8.88%

Can we see a 5%??? come on malaysian banks! hit the 5% FD this year!
*
If bank don't offer 5%, they will be losing a lot of depositor. Many Malaysians are selling their ringgit for USD, SGD and EURO (many money changer are running out of stock)

Ringgit value are free falling and people are parking their cash in stable currencies

KDI 3.5% for 1st 50k only. Versa pay interest monthly, 3.20% is the net % after all charges/fees.
KDI 3.5% no other charges/fees.
*
Please bring KDI or Versa over to investment tread. This is for FD only

This statement makes me suspect his mother knew who took the $ and it's someone close to her.

RM600k FD also dont mind lose 1%?
Your sister RM1.35M also same?

2 Million FD lose 1% pa = RM20,000 a year
past 30 years you have lost RM600k !
*
Many people do not know how to calculate interest. 1% looks like very little but with large sum of $$, that 1% is actually quite a lot.

I lodged a report with Maybank. They just called to say yesterday they had too many systems issues, and as a result the transaction unsuccessful. She confirmed I will be refunded but not sure when, so far no refund yet.
*
With such lousy system, how can depositor be certain that their money are safe from hackers?

If they can't even do a simple FD banking software to work efficiently, I'm certain their cyber security system should be full of loopholes too.

This rate very similar to CIMB Singapore. Malaysia FD rate used to be double of Singapore FD, but now we are at par

Why is everyone here saying interest rate is reaching its peak for this cycle?

We're not even at our pre-pandemic levels of 3.00% - 3.25%! And given the historically high interest rates, there might be chances for even higher rates this year.

Key thing is, none of us have a crystal ball. Extremely premature to make blanket statement such as this.
*
Agree, the interest rate will continue to rise after OPR announcement.

Today UK bank interest rate has reached 4% (traditionally below 1%). I guess sooner or later Malaysia interest rate will have to increase to prevent outflow of funds. Even Singapore FD are higher than some of the banks here.
