Unfixed Deposit at CIMB is not a promo FD. If  you refer to the rate tables for various month  tenures published in their website, the Unfixed Deposits rates are clearly put under a column called  BOARD RATES.
Thus renewal after redemption or autorenewal should be at the current board rate effective for the type of customer today. The question of being a promo rate never exist in the first place for CIMB Unfixed Deposit.

Every FD @ CIMB is unfixed. That just means that you not lose all the interest when you cancel it before it matures but kept it more than - I don´t know exactly - around 50 % of the time.

I passed by Bank Rakyat branch Bukit Indah, JB just now, it showed that the new rate for 5 years tenure is 4.7 p.a. Previously it offered 4.55 only. It seems that the rate has increased quite a lot.

i checked from website, seems that I cannot see a basic saving account there
do they provide any SA that has no recurring annual fee (ATM card fee)
or can I opt for non bank fee saving account ?
*
I don´t know. When I opened the savings account for the monthly interest I got nothing but the number. That sounds very basic for me.

May I know which Bank Rakyat saving account do u open? Can we choose basic saving account with online banking? Is annual debit card fee applied? And how much money do we need to deposit to open d saving account?
*
Actually I don´t know. I placed my FD there and certainly got some kind of very basic savings account for the monthly interest. No ATM card, no online banking. But I also did not ask. But it is quite annoying to go there every couple of months (yes I know I should do it EVERY month, but certainly too lazy) and pick a number to wait to make the withdrawel. Because EVERY branch of them is so much more busy than any other bank in Malaysia.

Anyway, I willjoin their new 4.5% for 11 month promo also cool2.gif

Guys, anyone with experience of putting big sum say 750k of FD?
If normal rate is hovering around 3.6%, how much can we nego for that sum? 5% possible? What are the concerns?
*
no chance to get 5%. if you are premier/preferred whatever then you will get the rates mentioned here. or a tiny bit more if they really love you as a customer.

they don´t want to sell FD, this is what they HAVE TO to keep clients happy and win new "fresh funds".

they want to have 500 of your 750k in other investment products, mainly unit trust and that stuff devil.gif

Hey, I like this FD certificates, look nice old school signed by (probably) important people cool2.gif

I would not put 1 mil in Bank Rakyat, but I trust them enough to do business with them.

any idea when this looming on the horizon be?
*
No, but the Indos usually have this crisis first cool2.gif

Not much you can do, just don´t put all money in MYR, some EUR, USD, SGD and CNY in foreign currency account (with shitty interest rates) will help.

so buy deposit into foreign currencies denominated a/c and gets shitty interest rate while waiting for it to happens?

something like these?....
https://www.hsbc.com.my/1/2/personal-bankin...nations-account
*
Yes, all major banks offer this with different conditions. To get good conditions you need to be preferred/premium/... customer.

The interest rates are always much worse than for MYR (only CNY sometime can bring good interest), but when Malaysia get stuck in Emerging Market crisis, this is a save harbour that probably brings more than 5 or 10% return.

According to my experience it is always good to mix, not bet on one thing. Stock market, FD, FX, this 3 things I need, but not more. I also have a little bit Gold investment in case all other things fail biggrin.gif

BR is not under PIDM. Anythung happens, bye-bye Liao.

I wonder how they made money or profit out of the rate offered...
*

You wonder how a bank can make more than 4.7 or 4.8 % profit per year over 5 years? Then try to get a loan for this rate.

that why BR is giving this rate but the housing  loan rate.. Some more their NPL is very high.
*
Bank Rakyat and their NPL, it is a little bit a myth, but it was true 10 years before.

I did my research before I put first time a FD there, did not found any major risks.

This sounds not like a bank that will soon get in trouble:

https://www.nst.com.my/business/2018/03/350...-16-pc-dividend

But of cause, not recommended to put all eggs in one basket, even the interest rate is very attractive, I still have more FD´s at other banks.

OCBC 4.35% 12 months.

Nice. Usually October and November is the time when OCBC is doing good promotions. I am still dreaming of the 4.5 % they did in 2015.

All CIMB FDs are unfixed. But this is misleading, not worth talking about.

QUOTE(alexanderclz @ Sep 24 2018, 07:22 PM)
if u believe we're going into recession, u may want to keep ur fd to a shorter term for now
*
Same as all other things, mix it! Always good to have FDs mature at different times, so you have all the options. But I would call a longterm FD with a good rate like 4.7 almost mandatory. While some discuss for months what could happen in 5 years, others already collected the nice profit every month.
