QUOTE(chinkw1 @ Jul 3 2024, 09:39 PM) Actually, which is better to place OTC FD? Bank Islam or MBSB? If fund is currently in Maybank, just Rentas to BI right? Bank Islam better as gives more profit for the same amount of principal for 1 year.

The kiasus were discussing the merits of Bank Muamalat FTA-i Double WOW at 6 months with ER of 4.1 % and whether to place before or after US election. Not much talking about 4.05% 12 months FTA-i WOW promo. The hedging kiasus discussing on a certain Singapore's Indian view about Trump or Harris probable impacts.

Can readers comment on what their opinions are regarding next year normal and promo FD rates? The following are some of the take aways from the annual end of the year FD prognosis from the kiasu members, which are very strangely more US centric than ever before..
1) The pessimistic camp says - Trump and rich billionaire crony govt camp will raise import duties under the strange idea that this can somehow be good for US. Our hardnosed biz and econs kakis feel this may be some kind of idea to get revenue instead by taxing consumers instead of taxing ultrarich more. As to whether it helps in job creation or having industries move to US, they are frankly dubious about how this works out in a globalized supply chains situation. So does a reduction in trade flows have any real impact on Malaysian economy and of FD rates indirectly or directly as this changes the existing status quo which the kakis believe they know how to work on?
2) As to whether Trump can somehow get the Fed under his control, or whether it matters? There are 2 dissenting groups of kakis here. Group A says lowering or too low interest rate is generally bad and believe anything between 4 to 7 % probably encourages an economy. According to them, they just leave when the rate is low, and the rate need to be good enough to sustain the value of the currency. Group B is more traditional and have simple idea that lowering rate will somehow promote economy although nothing much to say about the value of the money or the churning of money.
3) Previously the kakis have gotten used to the idea to ignore the Fed rates and predications and keep happily getting along in Malaysian economic. But this session, they consider about the geopolitical business impact and also the prospects of improving or bungling the wars prospects and BRICS.

The usual gang of kiasus are beginning to look and discuss the world FD and loan news. US and Eurozone expected to increase the number of rate cuts following the tariff wars. Will Malaysian FD rates hold at 4% or gain in the coming month or tws or follow down lower by next quarter earliest? Any views on the business logic or sensible bank policy? Thanks.
