Actually is rm8.48 per year really too much to ask to maintain your savings account? I find it reasonable and most savings account have very low minimum balance (i think some only rm1)

You will have the option to select Auto Renewal option and where the interest be placed (CASA or add onto principal)
Auto renewal will auto renew at board rates.

why don't u try the placement and see the screens? all setup pretty straightforward.

1st time placement, it will auto-create for you. subsequent placements, will be based on this previously-created efd account.

This time HLB EFD promo u can't choose to fund from own HLB account. Stupid HLB. Wasting customer time to instance money out and FPX in again.

why are you so concerned about efd account number?

From what i know that number is depends on which branch you open account, then your efd account will tag there.

Even withdraw all, next time place again still the same account number.

4.2% for 12 months lousy rate to U ? I thought highest rate currently is just 4.3% for 12 m for HLB and 15m for MBB ? U mean got much higher rate than 4.3% ?

i am from Singapore. went to Hong Leong Bank to place FD. I need a M'sian register number and internet access because the savings accounts needs to be activated online (via HL connect) on the same day. I dont have both. The bank also doesnt provide internet access.

not complaining but why dont bank have internet terminal for 1st time customer? older customer who dont know internet, how do they open a FD?

It was on a Friday. took me close to 2 hour to complete.

the staff who was serving me went to serve another customer whilst i had to go to buy a local SIM card. the 1st customer she serve also had some issues so she call up another number to serve the 2nd customer whilst the 1st customer was made to wait for her turn.

the 2nd customer took a bit of time to complete his transaction and i have to wait. after that it was my turn. Whilst serving me, she asked the 2nd customer to take another queue cos she said it would take quite sometime with me. of course the 2nd customer was not too happy. why shd she take a queue again? so they get another staff to serve her

Meanwhie i noticed another Singaporean also face same issue as me. she doesn't have a m'sian register number and no internet access. she also had to buy a local SIM card. she was probably worser because after she was told to activated her HL account, she was asked to wait. she waited for sometime snd no one call her until she asked the counter why is no one serving her. she told the counter she had already activated her account but has not given her chq for FD placement.
It turn out that the staff who serve her went off for lunch.

check your local branch got open or not first... those branches have different saturday opening.

if you go for another bank, usually you get promo FD rate (which needs fresh fund). unless the bank offer you better rate.

Nowadays most of the banks need CASA to have promotional FD rate. So, it means you will need to spare RM8.48/yr /bank account to get the promotional rate.

if I'm wrong, hope sifus can help correct me.

for PBB, you can choose BSA without ATM/DC. however, they still issue you the booklet instead. no issue with Internet Banking.

for HLB, you can choose BSA. staffs tried hard NOT to give me BSA, but after much insistence and threats to them, they finally "figured" it out BSA is "available" in their system. no issue with Internet Banking either. they will issue a DC but without any fees attached.

most, if not all, banks claims you need ATM/DC for Internet Banking, with the reasons of creating temp PIN at ATM machine.

however, in both banks above, I created the Internet Banking account/profile at the branch after opening BSA.

so a good idea will be to open a savings account, pay the Rm8.48, before next year renewal arrives, cancel the card and keep the internet access.

some banks still practice that you need ATM to create internet banking ID. However, I have experience HLB without needing DC. The personnel immediately request me to create the internet ID on the desk.

HLB is one of my favourite bank where I can just place e-FD for free, and just pay 11cents to transfer out (if >RM5k)

i am not sure (didnt ask) if i pay for the debit card. the officer just told me need to put min 250 in this account
