Yes, and its not easy to open an account there if you do not have a work permit or an address there. Moreover, SG fds are one of the lowest in the region.  shakehead.gif

Are you joking? The strongest currency in the region certainly has the lowest interest rate.

Reminds me about that guy who recommended to go for Indo FD with 6% some months before.

But if the currency loses 10%, your 6% become -4% interest rate compared to +2%!

Does it mean after 3 mths, I will get return of 5.6%? Noob on this

No, not at all. As newbie betten ignore constructs like this and stick to plain and simple FD.

So many of my FDs mature in the next weeks (the 6m and 12m at the same time), looks like I need to open ANOTHER bank account to get at least more than 4%. Four accounts still not enough bangwall.gif

That's very convenient. You must be a regular customer.  rclxms.gif

If you have a priority/preferred relationship manager, this is quite normal. I am not even calling them, I whatsapp to prepare FD placement or uplift smile.gif

Last time a FD matured and I was overseas, in this way could uplift and sign the documents two weeks later.

OCBC is back in the FD game finally  rclxms.gif

I will not call it "back in the game" as long as the FD rate is lower than the 360 rate.

Using 12m as an example, what is lowest rate that you guys can accept? If the OPR is cut again, it might dip below 3.7% range.
*

If we go in the area of 3.5% i will move most of my RM into other currencies. Sorry, our currency is by no means strong enough for such a low interest rate.

Unfortunately nothing matches OCBC 360 even close. And this is limited to 100k.

Problem is that after some FD matured I have already 150k in the 360 account. So 50k useless. Have to take action now, but not really in mood to open another bank account. Will talk to Bank Rakyat first, if no good news from OCBC, CIMB and AmBank in the next days.

Good idea!

Decisions must be made next week anyway when another big fat FD matures at CIMB.

May I know which branch you went to? Went to 2 diff branches, was told that they don't offer this.

If a old 6m 4.5% FD matured, they put in the 3.85 automatically for the renewal.

Just a curious queston, if someone has 500k to 1million cash, want to put in FD

Do you think there will be a special rate?
*
No. The banks don´t care about how much money you want to put in FD. If you buy 500k to 1 mil investment products like unit trust or insurance from them, they will be more generous with the FD rate.

I hv conventional fd there but no islamic. Did you have to open additional islamic savings account? And did you have to put in 10% into CASA?

*
Also would like to know - 10% CASA means the effective rate is 3.81 instead 4.23.

Hammerjit - please correct your post
Above 12mths
(1) Affin Islamic promo  FD p663m15 at 4.23% for 15 months end 31 Dec 2019, no CASA

The 90 FD : 10 CASA is for the Affin Conventional FD p663m15 at 4.48 %

Please do not mention 10 % to stop people like David_Yang post 11888 asking wrongly about the Islamic promo-
*
Certainly you are absolutely right, today I knocked in a huge amount in the islamic p663m15 at 4.23 %. Actually it all came from the CIMB p0m6 4.50 % last years x-mas gift cool2.gif

Well, don´t be too optimistic. There are thousands now who have high interest CIMB or AmBank eFD maturing these days and many run over to Affin.

This promo will never run until 31st Dec, the quote may be reached soon.

Nothing will happen this time, but later in 2019 they maybe cut down OPR another 0.25% mad.gif

Hi sifu,
If august fd rate is going to be worse, will u change to other things such fsm bond or unit trust?
*
First let me say this. Low FD rate usually makes investors move to the stock market, so this is positive for the stock market. On the other side a high FD rate is poison for the stock market, why should someone take so much more risks when FD can earn 8% or so?

But a investor needs diversity. Even 3.5% is still more than most stock market companies offer as dividend. Unfortunately the MYR is not a strong currency, when the interest rate is going down more, many international investors will drop out and the exchange rate against USD, EUR, SGD and JPY will go down.

To find the balance between the different kinds of investments is a big challenge.
