Looks a good deal. But 18 months lock in, early withdrawer with zero interest. 🤔 probably should wait if other bank provide better deal on CNY promotion.
*
Looks not so good to me. Do you get any interest for the 5k or 10k locked in CASA?

If not it is only 4.32% for 100k. If you do 500k it is 4.46%, I am not excited for 18 months.

Unfriendly trend @ OCBC

I am just wondering then, this feature almost making it like an FD with a one month tenure right ?

No, that would be too easy devil.gif

QUOTE(Xaemen @ Jan 5 2019, 05:04 PM)
Am I liable to some sort of clawback to the disbursed interests ?
*

Yes, certainly.

And I don´t think you can get monthly interest for a 6mth FD, usually this starts with 1 year.

It is not mandatory to disclose effective interest rates in Malaysia.  If it were so, all these bundle gimmicks would be in the drain.
*
True, but this is a problem not just in banking. As there is no "final price" rule like in Europe, some Restaurants add Service Charge, shops add the 6% SST and so on. Would be so easy to change, the price that is displayed need to be the final price, it is illegal to add anything later. Hope that will come one day to Malaysia also.

Hope more posters on CIMB FD promos at least mention which town if not specific branch OTC or eFD info.
*
CIMB eFD promos are very very rare. This 4.5 shocker from last year is the only one I remember at all. If there is one like this again it will be talk of the town for weeks. And people will still ask for it weeks after it finished cool2.gif

QUOTE(??!! @ Jan 11 2019, 02:27 AM)
I believe the branch manager and/or RM has certain authority over waiver of certain conditions for their products.
Perhaps i am lucky smile.gif
*
Especially the fresh funds requirement can easily be "forgotten" by your RM

BOC is quite good with offers like this. But don´t think you can walk in and bring your USD and RMB there.

any bank can recommend for special rate @ 100k deposit?

Too tiny amount for special rate. Maybe Bank Rakyat will offer a little bit more.

QUOTE(kmarc @ Mar 3 2019, 01:36 PM)
Ya, they initially whatapps me end of february to say my FD was due for renewal, need to top up 10k fresh fund to renew at 4.2%. I did ask them for any new promo and they say that's the current one.

On 1st March, they text again to say new promo for March, if top up 30k fresh fund, can get 4.3% instead of 4.2%. I clarified back with them after you asked and it was correct.
Luckily my FD is only due next week.  rclxms.gif
*
You got the 4.3%? Did not hear any other success story, I was refused. As you are from Sibu, maybe OCBC not offer this on the peninsular.

For those who don't know how to calculate, the effective rate for this bundled FD is only 3.75% p.a.  Not very attractive.  If 6% p.a. Last time more attractive as effective rate 4.5% p.a.
*
I really hate these bundles. Mostly bullshit, totally annoying.

My CIMB 4.5% eFD was auto-renewed at 4% - why the inconsistency?  unsure.gif  2 more maturing in mid-May, I shall see what happens then. Anyway, 4% isn't attractive enough.
*
Mine auto-renewed @ 3.3 biggrin.gif

Lazy as I am I would have let it continued for another 6 months if they would have got also 4.0

But now I withdraw certainly. As eFD so wonderful not need to go to branch, just one click and the money is in the current account.

QUOTE(Deal Hunter @ May 13 2019, 11:39 AM)
Usually lower rates tend to weaken currency exchange rate. Malaysia imports quite a lot. This reduction may see increase in food and fuel prices hitting consumers directly.

Totally agree with you, I see rough times for the MYR coming. Is Malaysia already strong enough for such a low interest rate? And does the world believe this? Malaysia 3.00, Singapore 2.24, what would you prefer?

QUOTE(Deal Hunter @ May 13 2019, 11:39 AM)
Wish BNM and analysts are more grounded and mathematically capable to show how things really work practically instead of talking irrelevant macro  economic fairy tales.

So, so, so true.

For FD placement that required SA, you can request to open Basic Saving Account.
AFAIK, this is the BNM rules and regulations that all commercial banks have to offer BSA (http://www.bnm.gov.my/index.php?ch=en_press&pg=en_press&ac=950&lang=en)

FYI, i have opened BSA at RHB & BI recently with ATM card without charges (ATM card needed for online banking registration else you wont need it).
*
Thanks. I understand the BSA account is indeed free, but there usually be charges for ATM card. RHB and BI I have no relationship. How you handle the Bank Rakyat 5 year FD? What charges to pay if I want to have online banking and ATM card?

When reading this, I am not surprised that MBSB is still offening nice FD rates, fresh funds very welcome wink.gif

https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/mbsb...d-credit-losses

Nobody needs to panic, thanks to PIDM RM 250,000 are save. Just to remind you not to put all eggs in one basket, no matter how attractive the basket looks. We should write this on every page of this topic biggrin.gif

such minor change of interest would not likely to alter habitual saving, i don't see how it would make people spend their money off instead of keeping it in bank.
*
It is not a minor change!

Everybody has to think about what is an attractive interest rate for FD in MYR.

If you get 3.5% for MYR and 2.0% for SGD what will you choose?
