Really? Which part of the banking law states it? I am also curious to know because I always boycott and walk away from those retailers who set a minimum amount on purchases.

It still defeats the purpose of no minimum limit even if they reduce their min limit to RM5. We can pay for RM0.50 mineral water from Tesco and Giant using SPay. Some retailers need to rethink their payment methods.

it's not a law, but it's something like a mini rule by BNM that merchant are suppose to follow if they decide to opt for credit card payment.

you can complain to merchant bank, if doesn't work, then association of bank, they will blacklist the merchant...or something like that....

Yes I totally agree with you on this. The keyword which needs to be emphasized is "Enforcement is very weak", which is also lacking. Hopefully more unscrupulous merchants get blacklisted from consumer complaints.

Spot on and well said. Some merchants display their array of cards accepted but want to charge extra fees, or min amount, all to their whims and fancy, to me is total BS.

We as consumer still can do our part without the governments initiative or enforcement. It is a chain cycle and all we need to do is leave a gap to ensure that chain is broken. Remember that businesses rely on profit to pay their staff salary and overheads. If customers turn away or boycott, there won't be revenue to pay for the business costs let alone profits. This in return, would cost the Boss to fork out money from his own pockets which also hurts badly. So, remind them not to mess with people power and consumer rights.

Just wait for retail businesses to further dip this year. Than they will be more flexible and try to adopt new methods. By than, what they call new is what other countries have adopted and using for some time. They always think that mass majority of Malaysians are nini's.
