Nice find, coolkwc. But internal DAC is great for me

All my opamp has arrived today, tested it on other channel and do A/B test, I don't like them. I prefer no opamp

I have 9 opamp now, 5 of them are high quality. I don't know what to do with them. Don't ask me any because they not for sale tongue.gif

What I do now? Remove all the opamp and all the capacitor on opamp supply because its unneeded smile.gif

EDIT: Forget to add, I'll get Sanyo OS-CON 10uF 10V and 47uF Blackgate NX for free soon biggrin.gif
*
what opamp you get today? hmm.gif

well, you can do that, but i can't, because i still need the analog multichannel outputs for movies and games...

hmm, today i just compare my Yamaha DAC vs X-Fi opamp...yap, this time i can differentiate quite easily....first heard i noticed the difference but can't tell exactly...after heard the same song repeatedly, finally i can told whats the difference...

the sound through X-FI DAC--> opamp
1. all the background instruments mix like rojak, can't distinguish the distance of instruments, through this test, i finally understand whats call layer of sound.
2. the vocal voice too 'hard'?!!? sweat.gif too centered and upfront.
3. the high region rough, some smooth/airy very high region just nick behind the instrument.
4. overall the stereo image decrease, all instruments, vocal tends to sounded in center, and i finally understand whats call soundstaging, narrow in overall.

i won't going to mention impression on Yamaha amp DAC, it just reverse of the word mentioned above nod.gif

i will call this as, well, morning 9am and night 9pm tongue.gif

yap, the comparison i done can't compare this two because Yamaha amp DAC are totally separated from X-FI, i just want to express what i have learned today...maybe i'm wrong in some elaboration, correct me...maybe i will do direct comparison for X-FI DAC vs X-FI DAC-->opamp later...oops, yesterday i can't said it was night and day because i used the poor cable as signal cable, i known after i tested using RMAA and found that the cross talk was so poor, thats why CS4382 can't really impress me for yesterday test...sorry for CS4382 notworthy.gif tongue.gif

Your last sentence just remind me different people have different sound system hence will have different resultant effect from the same DAC output...maybe pure DAC sound signature more suitable for system A but not suitable for system B.

Added on June 20, 2008, 10:19 pmhmm, an interesting question here....

Yea thanks man, useful for me biggrin.gif
Btw, do u think there's any degradation of SQ by using this stereo-to-dual RCA as opposed to single RCA?
*
of course nola...the difference of 3.5mm stereo and 3.5mm mono only stereo got 3 segments and mono only 2(no middle segment)...the middle segment of the stereo head correspond to right channel....

and keep in mind that the digital signal will be perfect if it works, otherwise it will fail/no signal, no SQ degradation issue like analog...

How if compare with Elite Pro?
thanks!

Sure ElitePro better than XtremeMusic lo....XtremeMusic = XtremeGamer = Fatality Pro = Platinum Fatality...all these 4 are same in terms of sound quality, only the name different to grab more money from buyers..

hi all

im new here... not yet an X-FI user, but i want to become one. so i have one n00b question:

i am using notebook, and the other day i saw new product called X-Fi Surround in the creative store. i thought i when home to think about it first. but the day after im going on vacation so i cannot get the item. when im back the store yesterday no longer have the item, nor the website. what is left is Sound Blaster Live External 24 Bit. its abit cheaper than X-Fi Surround 5.1

hence i wanna ask about opinion, which one deserve to go? should i get the sound blaster or wait for the X-Fi surround to be back in stock...?

here is the description of both items:
X-Fi Surround 5.1
Sound Blaster Live! External

thanks.
*
if your notebook sound is newest HD based, it will pretty same sound quality as Sound Blaster Live External 24 Bit...so i'm not recommend this unless your budget is too tight...

thx for the reply.
fortunately no, as in my siggy, my notebook is a crap today.
im planning to change to the new acer 6920G somewhere next month but afaik it still cant support 5.1 surround sound... cause i played my fren 5920G which i think have very similar sound card spec to the successor and... the dolby home theater feature really have not so much different from other laptops..  i need a soundcard for a laptop that has 5.1 output and volume knob.... no need to be so good also smile.gif
*
if budget allow, go for SB 5.1surround...

any sound quality different between this 2 set up ?
will the be some sound quality enhancement if we use sound card to tune Equalizer?
Thanks!  laugh.gif

depends on which mode you use...without bit-matched playback, you can tune EQ using sound card in digital out...for the quality enhancement, yes, if you know your speaker response and know how to tune for compensate certain frequency band roll off.

hahaha i bought in sg.
99 SGD.

not the best la, but i think better than sound blaster 24-bit external., its 79.

however when i plugged in the headset can feel more power and lots of stuff rather than the speaker cause in the speaker i only feel the clarity part. nvm though quite happy with the item... laugh.gif
*
Sure this one will sound better than SB 24bit external since the chip inside 24bit external too old adi...

yap, honestly say your Edifier M3300 reached its limit adi...maybe you need to change to better speaker for future...

actually some users need some times to adapt with the new sound and unveil the full potential of the card...when i first bought my XtremeMusic i felt the same thing as you...but after few days of listening, i gradually noticed a lot of differences from onboard, tested with a lot of songs, i can heard some sound i never heard before, you need time...

agree. of course the speaker is still the same i wont notice many difference. im no longer using M3300. it sound sucks actually. i use another no brand speaker abit cheaper than M3300 but superb than M3300 in almost all aspect.

what i notice actually is that the soundcard itself, have 1% difference from my onboard one. then i use crystalliser and cmss3d. nah from here actually i say.. u know. now i feel the sound now is so warm... after few songs ive played. i mean usually its not this warm. can relax better sia... hahahah and i test with battlefield 2 and counter-strike. yes i feel difference in them... maybe should listen more. burn-in my own ear... laugh.gif laugh.gif

yap, burn-in your own ear rather than the sound card....i actually don't believe any kind of burn-in except my ear burn-in... tongue.gif laugh.gif

hi again all X-Fi users! smile.gif

just wanna ask simple question:
Do you all use (download) the PowerDVD 6 that is given free by purchase of any X-Fi card? or you all use better dvd program to watch videos or movies?

i have powerdvd 4 and 6 (all unlocked) but dont find it better than WMP11 with ffdshow...

cheers wink.gif
*
i'm using media player classic with K-Lite Codec to watch DVD...in terms of picture quality, undeniable power DVD is better but i need the K-lite codec AC3filter flexibility of sound tuning when playback surround movie...is up to you actually...just use the program you like... nod.gif

If I use Media Player Classic the sound is much lower than using PowerDVD. I fix the volume of my speaker Edifier R51.
I need to lower the volume of the PowerDVD. Not sure if this normal

Which one better - Stereo surround or expand. I read in a forum, better use expand and make it 100% as this will dedicate each sound to each speaker. Where as surround mirror the sound to all speaker.

I do not wish the sound to travel to other room, so use expand (this is suggested by a person in a forum. Dont remember which).

Please advice. Thanks.  rclxms.gif
*
if you using Media player classic AC3filter to watching surround movie, the filter will auto normalize the sound to avoid clipping, thats why the volume is lower...

i don't use surround when listening music...if i do, i will set stereo surround rather than stereo expand...stereo surround will clone the front stereo to the real channel, so that the real channel will have the exactly same sound as front, more natural....while stereo expand will add some reverb and depth to the real channel, i don't like it...

hi i just bought an xtreme gamer from allngap...
my question is...
i have a 4.1 speakers (AL ADA885) with green / yellow / black connectors...
but on my sound card, all i get is green/ blue / orange /white
where do my yellow/black go?

Added on June 30, 2008, 12:20 pmsorry total noob here
*
on sound card, green is for front stereo, blue for real surround, orange is for X.1 subwoofer connector...

since your speaker is 4.1 only, either yellow or black 3.5mm head should got 2 segments only(surround and front should be 3 segments on it)...so just connect the 2 segments connector to the orange jack on the sound card.

4.1 cannot do surround meh?
how do i connect both yellow and black both into the orange jack?
i tot orange as u said is subwoofer jack, how come black (rear out, i thought) goes into the subwoofer jack?

sorry...i'm not questioning u...i really dun understand here...
trying to get this whole thing work
*
lol laugh.gif ,you don't understood what i said....

i didn't mean connect both yellow and black into the orange jack, i just said look for your speaker cable, either black or yellow got 2 segments in that head(i guess only, cause i don't know which cable is subwoofer and which one is real surround for your speaker)....

conclusion....connect your real surround into blue jack, subwoofer into orange jack.. nod.gif clear now? unsure.gif

OHHH~now i get it...
haha...okok...my yellow cable has 2 segments...
so my yellow into orange, my black into blue...hehe
wait, that 2 segment thingey, one is plugged into the sound card...the other end i left it hanging oni wat, nothing to connect into oso?rite?
or am i missing something here? something that i'm supposed to plug in here?

damn this card...4 jacks oni...even my previous audigy live have 6 ports...

Added on June 30, 2008, 4:12 pmand what is white jack for?
*
1 end to sound card, another end sure go to speaker, rite? what means by left it hanging only? hmm.gif

yap, this card only got 4 head, green, blue and orange output 7.1(8 channel)....you need special 3.5mm head cable from Creative if you got more than 5.1 speaker, not good...

EDIT: white jack is flexijack, for line in or SPDIF digital out/in which you can choose from the Creative Console Launcher...
