Very weird, when at night LME49720 sounds good, while at day it was too sparkly to my tastes sweat.gif  blink.gif

Hmm....this thread is dead again....still waiting for the opamp, but in the meantime I order yet another opamp brows.gif This one is ultra secret opamp tongue.gif  laugh.gif  rclxs0.gif Some say....this one is perfectly balanced sound signature, some say its too veiled. All in all, they all agree it have bass, a big one  icon_idea.gif

maybe too much 'burn-in' tongue.gif how about take the output directly from opamp?

No, still no sound cry.gif

But I found the culprit, a small SMD resistor is loose, removed it and I directly connect to output without opamp with the wire. Surprisingly it sings well, and no sign of excessive DC offset. Very weird  hmm.gif  I hope it stays that way sweat.gif

Gosh, I though this card is a gonner for sure sweat.gif

you means now you bypass an opamp again?

Anyway congratulate to you for arrival of new sound card soon... rolleyes.gif rclxms.gif

Yup, and this time it worked well. No sign of excessive DC offset, I measure it it exactly the same as with opamp, around 190mV
*
Actually without opamp how much the volume of sound decrease at same level?

Quite a lot actually, maybe up to -9 to -12dB from with opamp

Maybe you need to use another opamp place as front channel if you want to use opamp anymore...

Please recommend me a Amp tht can pair with Elite Pro + Wharfedale.

Edit: Actually DVD + Amp + Wharfedale is better rite?
*
if you just want to use Digital out to listen stereo music, either DVD or ElitePro will done the job, but pair with ElitePro is overkill in this case...

But they said i still need an amp to run Wharfedale Diamond 9.1, cant just pair with Elite Pro because Wharfedale done have build in amp.
sry bro, a bit confuse now.
*
of course you need amp... laugh.gif

i just suggest that if you only use digital connection to listen 2 channel stereo sound then you no need to buy ElitePro, just DVD player is more than enough..

Yo bro coolkwc... reading back on the posts on this thread, I'm confused again sad.gif

Earlier on u said the Xi-Fi is only capable of outputting PCM 2.1 (u said ppl complaining), even using DIGITAL output...
Then later u said Xi-Fi can output 5.1 by using proper software and codecs...

That means this is sofware and NOT hardware limitation?
*
sorry for made you confused tongue.gif

ppl complaining about that because they are noob laugh.gif

OK, like this....by using digital connection

1.you can only output 2 channel stereo in game, even the game is support multichannel sound
2.you can only output 2 channel stereo even you set your speaker to multichannel configuration....Digital output not response to CMSS3D setting and speaker setting...
3.you can and only can listen to Dolby digital/DTS by using 3rd party software to pass-through SPDIF. Without proper software, even your movie is DTS/Dolby sound track it will only send out 2 channel digital signal.

Clear? laugh.gif

QUOTE
Does it mean it IS possible to playback Dolby Digital/DTS sources through the PC and output to home theater via DIGITAL OUT and get 5.1 SURROUND?

yap, but you must fulfill the 3rd method above... nod.gif

Anyone using Windows XP change to the new beta? I don't try it, never bother since the current one just fine with me smile.gif

Is there anything we can discuss other than modding? How about games? X-Fi is built from ground up for gaming, so we better talk its gaming performance. All the game I tested give very good result, even the game that doesn't support EAX like Crysis. On the game that supports it, its just amazing. Especially in F.E.A.R, even when enemy sneak up on me, I can listen to them before I can see them. Environment, ambient, different material sounds great too
*
Ermm, stay away from this beta, a lot of problems...

So far i haven't play any first person shooter game except testing the BattleField2...i will vomit if i play it... doh.gif i only play racing game, so the EAX not very useful to me...but i will look forward a piece of 8800GT a month later to play my favorite ColinMcrae:DiRT and RaceDriver GRID, this 2 got EAX5 HD engine brows.gif ...

Oh you are one of the people who get motion sickness in FPS. Luckily I don't. Only game that gives me a little headache is Medal of Honor: Airborne. The motion blur and weapon sway makes me a bit dizzy, but only for a few minutes

I wanted to try DIRT but I heard it got lots of bugs because its a port from console, same like SC:DA

i got DiRT in hand since it released, but no chance to play... doh.gif colinMcrae got a lot of bugs for last few series also, i play CMR2005 before by using this SC, even EAX4 HD very good adi... thumbup.gif

Any one got try this : -
Speaker : Logitech Z5500
Sound Card : Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Music (Attached with Digital I/O Module)
Cable From Sound to Speaker : Original speaker Cable (Z5500) and Optical Cable
Operation System : Window XP SP2
Audio Player : Foobar2000
Audio Player Playback Output : ASIO
Sound Card Mode : Audio Creation Mode

Now my problem :
When i select Entertainment Mode for my sound card, my speaker can detect 6 channel direct sound or optical output.
When i select Audio Creation Mode for my sound card, my speaker only can detect 6 channel direct sound with ASIO output. But the optical output for my speaker has no signal.

Any pro user here can give me advice.

/ps: This sound card only can perform ASIO output from Audio Creation Mode. Other 2 mode (Entertainment Mode and Game Mode) cannot perform ASIO output.
rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
not understand what you ask actually? what you want actually? what make you not satisfied with it?

and yap, only can use ASIO in Audio Creation Mode, otherwise the driver will hang...

Thats means the Audio Creation Mode cannot perform ASIO output through optical cable to speaker or what???
*
ASIO is only for analog output, since you now using Digital out, so ASIO doesn't make sense at all, since digital out already consider as pure bit stream from your songs....and keep in mind that digital out only can output 2 channel stereo PCM and won't response to ASIO, direct sound, CMSS3D and mutichannel speaker setting..

so i wish to ask about your opinion about these 2 situations :
1. A music play with ASIO format go through normal cable to speaker.
2. A music play with digital format go through optical cable to speaker.

Which one can perform better?
hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
i don't know whether your Z-5500 got a good DAC inside or not, if you have a good external DAC/decoder, the 2nd method will be the best....method 1 need to pass-through DAC and opamps before go to your speaker, the sound will greatly affected by DAC and opamp...

keep in mind that:

method 1 is the highest quality Analog output from the sound card

and

method 2 is the highest quality digital bit-stream output from your sound card.

So any recommendation for external DAC?
*
Sorry bro, i'm not familiar with external decoder, if you want just ask HERE, but i would like to say the XtremeMusic build in Cirrus Logic CS4382 DAC was quite decent adi...only the opamp after DAC make a different...

I suggest you try connect the analog and digital to compare which one suit your taste, i'm not recommend external DAC for your setup because no need to do so...

What's good about this Chaintech other than the Wolfson DAC is it doesn't use any sort of opamp, so its sounds pure and unaltered. I do the same on my X-Fi, and I never turn back on using opamp anymore smile.gif
*
well, just now i soldered the output directly from DAC, listen it and i noticed that

with opamp
1.more bassy.
2.midrange more pronounce but not clear/a bit blur.
3.rough high region.

direct coupled from DAC
1.less bassy than opamp.
2.clear midrange.
3.high region sound is smooth, airy.
4.-10dB in volume decrease.

i would say that the difference not so marginal, not night and day...maybe just a matter of taste for different people..

With opamp everything is just in-your-face kind of experience, not the kinda thing that I like especially fo music listening, the soundstaging is very wide without opamp.

For me whet you describe is night and day, because you can clearly hear the difference, but well, one man's meat is another's poison. What speaker did you use with the X-Fi?
*
i pair with Yamaha RXV-800 amp and Concorde floor stander at home...but once i go back university, i have to settled with my AL MX5021 only...

EDIT: i like the sound by DAC alone too, but i think the card not designed to use like that, so i will change opamp also...

Hmm, some information here, maybe useful for someone or may be not...for those who want to use SPDIF connector actually no need to buy 3.5mm mono to RCA(for me quite hard to find it)...just buy the easy-to-find 3.5mm stereo to dual RCA and connect the left channel(usually white colour) RCA to coaxial input of your amp...just got chance to tested out today.. sweat.gif
