UNDERGROUND, both of the two other is a good hit. The far left (cap labelled C46) is the opamp +5V supply, while the other one (C16) is one of the DAC power. If you want better sound, you can supply more voltage to opamp (since the spec say so), but that is advanced mods

@sucka3
If its dangerous, you'll never see any soundcard mods rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(UNDERGROUND @ Apr 25 2008, 05:15 PM)
You mean like replacing the 1000uF/16v to 1000uF/25v like that ?
If i change my main power filtering cap from 1000uF/16v to 25v, will the power regulator cut off the circuit like when i put 2200uF/16v on it ?
*

No, you need to tap the power from somewhere else, changing the caps voltage won't do nothing. FYI, the power regulator voltage for CA20K DSP is only 1.21V laugh.gif The benefits of using higher voltage rating is lower ESR on same capacitance but the drawback that its bigger

Do you guys wonder why I know so much about X-Fi but I don't even have the card on hand.....?

Wao, why ur Opamp damn cheap one? luckily i not buy the RM20+ yet...where you get it ah? and FARNELL is who?
*
LOL, i laugh so hard on that one biggrin.gif Farnell is not the nickname of someone, but a site here

@ coolkwc

That, my friend is a mystery.....if you believe I have the card then maaybe I have..... brows.gif

Google will go a long way.....and lots of reading especially datasheets on components (opamp, voltage regulator, DAC etc.).

EDIT: I don't know anything on Audigy 2 ZS, I never see the card thoroughly so I don't know

Actuall, lots of components on A2ZS is similar to X-FI XtremeMusic, only the layout is different

XTREME, I'll try to find is there anyone who done the mod on that card. From first look, looks like the capacitor you changed might not related to audio signal( the right one at least) I'll confirm this

The sound quality will drastically be better, depends on what kind of mod you perform. Seriously, if you have some skill using soldering iron you can do it

I have no idea how to use the RMAA program, sorry bro =_="
*
You need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack (male to male), connect the output to the input. Download the program, run it and set your card input and output, and click on the bottom left Run Test on Playback/Recording. Then the sound level and spectrum windows will come out, the ideal range is around -1dB, adjust this on Windows control panel, when its goes green click the start test. Don't run any sound program during that period, especially if you run just one card, leave till it ends. Then post the result here

Actually that is the proper way to do the opamp removal and installation. I have other way to remove opamp though. I lack of tools too, and a very shaky hands, that doesn't stop me from modding

Its hard to say, but you could disable the microphone +20dB boost if its available on Windows advanced volume control.

If you use XP, right click on sound icon on taskbar and select 'Open Volume Control'. Then click on 'Options' > 'Properties'. On this Windows, click 'Recording' and press OK. If the 'microphone' was selected, tick on 'line-in' and try RMAA again. If the setting is different, post the picture here

Something seriously wrong. Mind posting the recording level and spectrum before you test it?

That's more like it. Could you try 16-bit/44.1kHz?

That looks pretty good, but there is quite a lot of spikes on 100 to 1000Hz region. And there is a bump on 50Hz

My Prodigy HD2 exhibit the same problem on stereo crosstalk, anything above 2000Hz it started to rise up

I wonder if those spikes between 100 and 1000 Hz are caused by the cable or it's the XFi ?
*
Have you tested your card before the mod? I think its more related to card than the cable

I think the 'What You Hear' is the loopback internally without using cables, that is why its perfect, I can do something similar with my HD2 using DirectWire

Don't worry about the spikes, as long as it sounds great you should be fine. If you concern then check your card physically

No, I don't think its heat related, and the volume control is amusing. I didn't find in any way that the volume control does affect the DSP temperature

QUOTE(blessedvillain @ Apr 28 2008, 06:26 PM)
i got a feeling that overheating might cause very obvious sound degradation. to me, listening to music during hot day is not the same during the cool and quiet night...

maybe it's just me again..tongue.gif
*
Maybe its just you. Well in hot weather we tend to have higher heart rate, sweaty that makes me feels uncomfortable and this will makes a big difference when listening to music. Although transistors and electronics do work better at low temperature, but there is a lot of factor to put in the equation too, unless someone do testing these things

I studied before in physics i guess, everything seems to be louder during night time, don't know what causes it but it is somehow related to the temperature of the air...
*
Air is denser when cold so soundwaves travel faster when cold, and during night time have lower noise floor than day (depends on places)

all these physics talk makes me blur d...hahaha...

forget physics, listening music at night is always the most enjoyable moment, regardless whether soundwaves travel faster/slower with denser/less denser air...

Well, you started it, as a science student I applied what I studied to whatever you saying. Its not rocket science or anything, more to common sense than anything rolleyes.gif
