guys, if u r buying a new bike, remember to ask the bike shop to remove the tube and inspect it.

my new bike tyre lost air suddenly, when i remove the tube, it has been simply patched. after 1 month, the bike shop won't replace a tube, they said u might have patched it urself...
bad luck....

wow, did that happened to your Dash 18? from RxDxLxnk? am looking for a folding bike myself and thanks for the advice.

Hi guys,

where is the best place to get a Giant road bike? How many % discount is to be expected?

Any Giant owners can share their experience in terms of Giant warranty/service/place to buy/discount/sales?

Giant Malaysia facebook page is hopelessly slow in update and lack of useful information.

Imaging for MSRP and dealer list they also wont put on website, and only able to give you if you email them your email addresses. How to do business like that these days...

Enough rant, thank you so much.

The best place to get Giant are Penang / kedah / JB, where it's main distributor based at if you looks at their facebook page.

One thing i noticed, Giant Malaysia keep stressing warranty will be void if being serviced at outside authorised outlet, which are limited in Klang valley.

Giant might be a good bike, but when its in Malaysia, it's fail to reachout.
*
Could not agree more. Giant Malaysia is run by bunch of morons who only know how to cycle but know nuts on doing business/customer service.

Just look at Taiwan Giant, I bet even a tiny Giant outlet can managed their FB better than the whole Giant Malaysia does.

Anyhow am thinking of buying directly from Taiwan, with cheap air asia ticket and RM75 sport equipment fee, can get TCR Composite Shimano 105 ~8KG for RM4K. Giant Malaysia selling? After discount RM5.5k thank you.

Any idea how apex compared to 105? 105 was told ~9kg so I think apex version will be slightly lighter ~8.9kg..

Got this email from Giant Malaysia. Asking for TCR SL 2012 but they give info on 2011 TCR SL instead. Malaysia TCR SL 2011 is exactly same as Taiwan TCR CL 2011. Price before discount.

http://www.giant-bicycles.com/zh-tw/bikes/...l.2/7767/45077/

- TCR SL 1: RM7,000 - Shimano Ultegra 7.6KG
- TCR SL 2: RM6,000 - SRAM Rival 7.8KG
- TCR SL 3: RM5,300 - Shimano 105 7.8KG

actually it's a good deal for SL 1.Are you considering it?
*
Yes seems that SL1 is a better deal (see the price difference below)

Actually I am more interested on the 2012 models, because 2012 got
1. new frame design
2. upgraded fork (composite ->advanced)
3. overdrive steerer -> OverDrive 2 Steerer (up to 40 percent stiffer than the existing OverDrive with no weight penalty hmm.gif )
4. Seat Post (Giant Carbon -> GIANT ADVANCED Aero)

Anyhow some info on what I have found out about 2011 Taiwan TCR SL, compared to Malaysia TCR SL 2011:

2011 TCR SL1 Ultegra 7.6KG RM7000 (TWD59800 RM6179) Diff = RM821 @ 12%
2011 TCR SL2 Rival 7.8KG RM6000 (TWD49800 RM5146) Diff = RM854 @ 14%
2011 TCR SL3 105 7.8KG RM5300 (TWD39800 RM4112) Diff = RM1178 @ 22%

2012 TCR SL1 SRAM Force 7.5kg TWD66000 RM6820
2012 TCR SL2 SHIMANO 105 7.9kg TWD46800 RM4836
2012 TCR SL3 SRAM APEX 8.1kg TWD42800 RM4422

Also I got these TCR Composite prices from Taiwan website. Price wise comparable to TCR SL.

2012 TCR COMPOSITE 1 SHIMANO 105 8.0kg TWD42800 RM4422
2012 TCR COMPOSITE 2 SRAM APEX 7.9kg TWD45800 RM4732
2012 TCR COMPOSITE 3 SHIMANO Tiagra 8.7kg TWD38000 RM3926

Compared 2011 to 2012 (take taiwan prices cos I dont have Malaysian 2012 prices yet), prices have generally go up. So should I wait for 2012 version? Any idea how TCR Composite (carbon fibre) compared to TCR SL (Superlite Aluminium)?

wow! nice analysis bro. but the problem is whether Giant Malaysia Authorised distributor is bringing in the 2012 model and distribute all the bikes to authorised dealers or not?

Good luck on ur hunting...
*
Ya thats the problem, Giant malaysia always slower than other ppl. I checked with Tay Cycle, Giant Singapore about 2012 release, IIRC they said for 2012 there will be no TCR SL, only TCR Composite.

Giant USA, giant Taiwan, giant Singapore all willing to reveal the MSRP online, only Giant Malaysia not doing so.

If you see Giant malaysia facebook, many ppl interested and asked about Giant bike prices and dealer location. You know what Giant Malaysia did? He ask ppl for their email addresses and send them one by one via email sweat.gif

Even the dealer list after much persuade they said want to put into discussion section but after 1 month still not there.

I am not sure what the reason Giant malaysia dont want to post these basic information online lor. Dealer list and MSRP are not confidential information leh...Not like we are asking for the actual selling/discount price, ppl want to buy also dont want ppl to know whistling.gif

So I would say Giant malaysia is among the worst I have seen.

Here is the facebook page.

If such a case, I can only assume few things.

1. They can't come out the MSRP because they might mont have RSP for consumers. That's why they can't produce it.

2. Some bike shops took the model from them but might change the parts in order to make it more affordable. If consumer brought the cheaper version, first thing they will think is Giant instead of the bike shop. Other than that, Bike shop might tell these consumers that it was Giant Malaysia's direction.

3. It could also be that they unable to get a authorise dealer maybe because Malaysia, bicycle not really as strong as in Taiwan and Singapore.

This is my opinion but not an excuse for Giant.. Sad whistling.gif
*
Hehe here is my assumption instead:

1. Giant malaysia does have MSRP, however whoever want this info have to email Giant msia and giant msia will then email back the info. Same for the dealer list. I have the email from giant msia to proof it. Not that they dont have, but they dont want a lot ppl to know it. Reason being? I not sure but I know this emailing forth and back is tiring and so yesterday...

2. If bike shop can changed the specs and told customer it was Giant msia direction, that means cheating la... Also I will blame giant msia for this because they did not provide enough information (bike specs, MRSP, dealer list) thus customer easily kena cheated. If they have proper website/facebook page with clearly model, specs, MRSP, customer can easily know the differences.

3. This one i agree. However seeing giant msia nowadays spend alot sponsoring this la, that la, if they spent this alot money doing sponsorship, why not stepping up the effort of getting more dealers thus making ppl easier finding their products.

At least create a proper website with few basic info like bike models, specs, dealer list. No need super fancy website but a static will do. I mean, sure easier than asking ppl to leave their email address and try email back every time, right?

Thats it.

Thank you for your lengthy explanation.

I guess it's a good buy after all, I have to believe it's 2011 model as it's under promotion, full retain price is 4.5k. On my budget really cannot expect too much edi, since tiagra have really limited option I just move on to 105 I guess

On the bearing side, I have been wondering why is everyone talking about sealed bearing. I'm an engineering student after all, design of bearing only matter with the cage, and the ball's hardness and roundness. Seal bearing do have many advantage over normal bearing, on smoother or not it depends a lot on the cage design actually. Ease of maintenance is one big point as I ripped open my old MTB shaft and I lost many bearing without realising they fall all over the floor.

I tried rotating both the wheel set of Shimano and the Focus's, it appears the Shimano's 1 is much smoother and feels lighter..

One of the review I found
http://talkingtreads.com/2011/07/01/focus-...ado-2-0-review/
*
Any idea how much is the weight for the Focus?

Reading from the review you mentioned it is 23 pound or 10.4 Kg (60cm frame) .

Other review on bicycling.com mentioned 21.4 pound or 9.7Kg for XL size.

Comparing the Focus to Giant TCR SL2 2012 (7.9KG) @ RM4.8k (quoted by one of Giant dealer, before nego), is the saving of ~2Kg worth the extra RM1k?

Both having similar white colors, 105...

Around 5k+ you can already to get entry carbon frames with some lower group components. For me weight doesn't really matter too much my body weight alone could have surplus the differences of the bike
*
Hehe ya agree on the carbon frame... here is some info i gotten from Giant Singapore regarding the lower range TCR Composite bikes:

2012 TCR C1 SGD3000
2012 TCR C2 SGD2500
2012 TCR C3 SGD2200

According the the reply the Singapore TCR Composite is as per Giant International website specs.

Anyhow no idea how much Malaysia prices are, or the availability....

don't expect the prices for simillar bikes to be a direct currency conversion here.. it never works unless you are willing to travel over to said country and get them yourself.

if you look at taiwan or china, there are many instances where similar bikes are illogically cheap when you do a currency conversion...
The canada bike in your link is for TCR1, which is lower spec with mixture of 105 and Tiagra, where as the TCR SL2 in Malaysia is as per Giant International spec, with full 105.

Can try ask in Giant Malaysia facebook page but I doubt you will get any useful info there. When asked for the dealer list, MSRP in Malaysia and available models (basic information which Giant Taiwan/Singapore/USA put online for EVERYONE to see), they will ask you to email them and they will reply to the email, instead of putting them in the facebook page.

You can see there are ALOT of interested and potential buyers making similar price/dealer enquiries again and again on the facebook page but Giant Malaysia will either ignore them or ask them to send in email instead. And all my previous comments requesting the info to be put online, are all DELETED.

Anyway butthead thank you for your useful and helpful information in helping novice like me and others making the correct decision in buying our 1st bike.

I think what "without crank" means is all parts are 105 except the crank...

actually the brakes and crank are are a non-series shimano crankset.. they did it instead of a full 105 to keep price down...

they did provide a set of fulcrum racing 7's though... albeit being relabeled for OEM use..
*
so "Fulcrum Racing Comp" is actually oem fulcrum 7...hmm.

just wonder any idea on Xero X1 e.g weight/price?

tq

p/s: what is the difference between non-series components and those with "proper" name? weight/price/quality?

*

triple butted is lighter compare to double butted without sacrifice the tube strength?

while comparing focus n boardman, why not add in the comparison Giant TCR SL2? It is 7.9KG (frame 1100g/fork 499g) according to a taiwan forum (mobile01.com)
