Hi,

I usually do not post on this thread often as I do not go into cycling. I do get myself a road bike at a shop recommended by a friend of mine. Haven get the bike yet but was looking forward to it. I did not know there are many road bikers in KL as I do not see much around in my area.

Anyway I just wanna share one picture. The bike cost around RM50k and its sold to owner who plan to put it as deco in his house.

Butthead,

I seen one guy with MTB riding in makeshift ramp keep making his MTB fly. Dont know what brand what it as I am not into cycling that time.

Btw I had an old old road bike and I am considering turning it into fixed bike or refurbish with cheapo groupset. What do you think abt that?

when younger days... a bunch of us will jus go to those area under the towered high powered electrical cable areas and dig up and down to form our own jump ramps... lousy one la... always cannot pack the dirt compact enough to last a few jumps... and we are no good at jumping as well... no fancy cancan, superman, 360/720 back flip tricks... and still we end up with our face planted in some pile of dirt or dog shit...

anyways, back to your old road bike... how old? threaded headset with quill stem? fixie parts are not cheap though.. especially with those shimano 600 stuff nowadays kena goreng'ed sky high... they are practically new but unused..

and refurbishing as a road bike might hit problems where the rear of your frame can't fit a 130mm spacing hub.. quill stem also hard to find and you have to find back standard non-oversized handlebars...

i dunno what to think of this other than lots of money (sorry la but i am very $$$ minded)... you can hunt around BBS though for 2nd hand parts...

I have no idea cause I am being away from malaysia for 1years already. I only can tell you once I went back for holiday in a few weeks time. doh.gif My bad

Btw Helios 500 with 105 comp for RM2.5.. wao not bad wei... no joke right hmm.gif

Btw bike box for road bike usually how much ar? Do they charge extra if i carry my bike into Malaysia airline?

Budget around 2.5k ringgit or lower if possible?

At least some STI kind lever will do. What ya think guys?

the hard traveller's case usually costs in excess of RM1k... good ones usually...

as for airlines, i am not sure if they charge you on the actual day but i saw articles on it that many airlines on US don't really like travelers bringing bikes on the plane...

http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/content/da...Information.pdf

read page 9, but call them up to confirm

it seems that they treat your bike as a cargo baggage and is subjected to weight limit of your flight..there is also a dimension limit it seems...

RM2.5k is possible for an entry level bike.. just don't hope that you will be getting a fancy one.

Okay thanks for the note. Maybe 2nd hand bike perhaps? Worry don have my size only cause I am short and usually i go with S or XS depend on manufaturer. Any place for 2nd hand bike?

My local bike shop just deliver my bike to my house. Personally delivered by the guy who layan me in the store. An avid cyclist himself for 20 years. Thanks to freind of mine who intro me to him. Got this bike at good price with some extra thrown in at good price too. thumbup.gif

The guy even put on wide front 25 and thin 23 on the back. I did not ask for this but I found out that wider front = better turning & better shock absorption. Dang the tube i bought cant fit the bigger 25 tayar cause too small but i wondered is it still possible to put it as the tube i had is only for size 19 to 23 doh.gif

Too bad I would not be able to ride it for time being cause i am going back for cuti cuti malaysia doh.gif Cant carry the whole stuff back to KL to ride in hill near my house doh.gif Wish can claim GST too or else will be the ultimate deal drool.gif doh.gif

Hence that the reason why i ask for chepo bike few post back doh.gif

QUOTE(butthead @ Feb 6 2012, 01:54 PM)
nice one.. an EMC etape 2.2...

should cost no less than RM5k for a carbon seat stay frame... where are you anyways?

The bike cost around $1250 Cadel Evans dollars for the bike. My friend actually managed to get this current price if not i will pay more for it. I dunno about prices in the malaysian market but is it consider expensive for the given spec?

I actually looked around few shop before i get this particular bike. Went to few shops and what i discovered there:

-Frist shop > treat me well and explain to me alot of stuff. Carries Trek/Apollo bikes there. But the wares in the shop were quite expensive compared to other place outside.

-second shop > Carries a huge range of trek bike but dont even bother to layan me or watsoever. As if I cant afford to buy the bike whistling.gif .

-Third shop > The worker were not keen but the owner were patient to explain everything about road a to z about road bike. Carries mostly avanti and Scott roadie bike. One of the avanti model actually fit within my budget/needs and I was very close on buying this particular bike but i did not in the end.

Fourth shop > Like the 2nd shop, not keen to layan me. I asked what he thinks about trek/speciallised he told me "those are shit stuff" and point me to a sora/tiagra Felt bike and told me if i can seal the deal by that day I could get better price. After that he just left me alone and i just yawn.gif whistling.gif and walk out of the shop whistling.gif

-Fifth shop > The shop where i bought my emc bike. Introduced by my local friend who shop at that shop after I asked him for help in bike suggestion. Stocks mostly Colnago/Pinarello/Trek/Look/BMC/etcs in a very large quantity. That the place where I snap the Colnago Ferrari bike too. Had a good time in the shop as the person is very helpful till willing to deliver the bike personally and give me good deal in it

I end up this bike over the avanti bike is because I could get a way better spec/stuff for the same amout of money. The bike had full carbon front and rear fork and seat post. Complete 105 grouppo in it unlike avanti mix componetry. The wheels also looked wicked. The bike loooks way better in real life then in EMC website. Gotta train in clipless pedals before i start riding doh.gif

Butthead,

Do u think the tube meant for 700x23 tayar able to fit into 700x25?

QUOTE(butthead @ Feb 6 2012, 05:43 PM)
hard to tell with currency conversion included.. now around RM3.2 to AUD1 rite... for a part carbon bike... i would still expect it to land in the upper regions of RM5k with a full 105 equipment...

this is where a choice have to be made because it is cutting very finely into lower end carbon models on whether you would like a carbon or alloy frame... but looking at the specs.. i would say it should be quite fairly priced over in Aussie... since i think the biking industry there isn't all that cheap... i once contacted velocity for their wheels and i got a shock at how much they were going to charge me for a set of wheels... to the point that i pay 25% more i can end up with a pair of Racing 1's and that is without shipping charges which is 70AUDs...

you meant the tube right? do you still have the original box of the tube? if not, there should be some white markings on the tube itself to indicate what size it is for... usually a 23c is also compatible to use on 25c... i've seen 20c which is on a totally different tube..

if you meant tyres.. then there should be no problem running 25c.. i run 25c myself both front and back but i got those lousy steel bead ones...  malaysia don't have much fat tyre users except for fixie riders.. and they run mostly 28c and above.. so, not much choice and have to dig hell lot of places just to get a pair... hope they dun run out fast...

there is no training for clipless pedals... you get it after a couple of humiliating tumbles... trust me blush.gif

best if you find a riding buddy there... ask him to remind you to unclip everytime you come to a stop.. that way you don't forget, panic and then land full flight like a sack of potatoes onto the floor... even that, it still happens... just maybe less...

anyways, just a curious question since you are in australia.. did julia gillard the PM declare a public holiday after cadel won his tour de france... i heard the news on stage 20 that they there could be a public holiday and then later after champ Elysee i heard that it didn't happen... jus out of curiosity..

Added on February 6, 2012, 5:56 pm

i heard he is super cheap but don't expect miracles when it comes to customer service... he used to be even cheaper when he was at the wooden shop at the road side...

i've gotten from him before some ceramic kcnc pulleys, non ceramic for RM 60 or 70 like that while it costs a bit over 100 outside...

buy parts i guess it is OK.. but whole bike... you have to measure it very wisely... don't think he has that much selection on road bikes anyways... lotsa fixie and MTB stuff though...

saw some fuji and giants in there and some other brands i can't recall..

I see i see,

Most stuff in aussie were very expensive (including bikes). Some local ppl rather buy online on UK web like wiggles/Chain reaction then local store. The person in the shop willing to do a deal on certain stuff when i asked him nicely and the some of the deal the prices were comparable to the ones in UK only diff maybe 10/20 buks. Regarding velocity wheels, apparently reading from the local aussie bike forum that that wheel cost more in Aus even though it was made in Australia (used to but now change to US) shocking.gif Those Zipp wheel were like $2.5k for 404's and 101 is like $1.5 while overseas were like $1k only. For now I will stick to EMC bike wheels first. So close on getting a shimano RS80 C50 wheels at one point. Btw what you think about shimano carbons wheel?

I have no intention in getting a carbon bike for that price range as i know it is not as good as the top end carbon bike which cost a bomb. Plus I know heard from ppl that even exp carbon bike also suspectable to cracks An alloy bike with carbon folks/seat post will be enough for me, I planning to enter races but I would need to build up my fitness first as I had zero excercise for many years already. Hope my weight advantage of 50kg will tapau those mat sallehs laugh.gif

Yup I was refering to the tube. The tube were ment for size 18c to 23c. That why i asked if it was able to fit tube onto a 25c tayar?

Okay about that clipless pedal stuff. The shop owner told me that he once tumble down infront of a group of 50 riders rclxub.gif I guessed a fall will happend eh? Hope i don get injuered that badly whne that happen doh.gif

Nah, no public holiday lar. Just another day here. Most of the stuff that dominate the sports pages for Rugby and Aussie football. Cant recall seeing Cadel face on the first page of the sport section. But one thing for sure did happend. More BMC bike on the road and some ppl does not like cause everyone trying to be cadel. doh.gif I had BMC latest catalog, most of their bike does look good and can go fast doh.gif

Btw, any thoughts about Bracciano wheel? http://www.pro-lite.net/index.php?option=c...d=119&Itemid=58

Guys my weight varies around 48 to 51 kg during the day. Tha depend if i had big portion of meal or not.

Butthead,

I took a Velocity wheel picture on an local mag, the price is kinda shocking.gif compared to the ones in the US Velocity doh.gif

About the wheel, most probably I would get myself prolite Bracciano so that I can put the Vittoria Rubino rubber tat came with the bike. Which currently on Maxxis Re-fuse traning tayar. I gotta need to train my body for cycling before i even start thinking of getting Zipps or Mavic wheels.

Btw, what up with mavic wheel line. It is quite confusing eg for Ksyrium line there are quite alot of grade eg Elite and SL. Can you tell me what is the different between those diff level of lets say Ksyriums?

I wonder what happend to Saxo bank when contador got banned since he the "main man" for the team?

I cant wait to ride my bike for the first time. Quite busy with my stuff these few days doh.gif

Fitted light and saddlebag on the bike, just waiting to be ridden icon_rolleyes.gif

I got this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-lineup-bike-stand/ I paid $45 buks for it.

I always wondering what up with campy and sram groupset. I know that sram groupset must adjust it well or else it wont work properly based on the guy in my bike shop. Not sure about campy as i never asked abt it. Not looking at the 11 speed ones tho, just 10 speed will do... Always curous about it and i hope someone can share it.

Did my first ride, got into mega crash.........most of of body is full of bandages and part of my face too... My helmet is written off for sure. Thankfully i am wearing a cycling glasses too as upper frame were srtached...... The bike should be okay. Maybe the front wheel is abit off alinged as in leaning toward on side of the brake.. Ouch....

What i remember is i was on downhill then the steerer satrted to wobble like crazy as the speed incresed. Shild i hit the brake when i going down hill? Most probably i will revert to non clipless pedel (horse leg strap for time being)

I really must thank the helmet for saving me & some local cyclist who help me to get on feet and walk back home (quite near my hse) Had a bad concusion based on how the helmet give way Cant remb much thing at that time too and i would not want to think too cry.gif

Luckly i never wore team cofidis jersy or else it will be wated as the one i wore at that time ripped off with blodstand in it..

ouch man.. no concussions I hope?

better get your bike back to the shop to get it checked out too

I brake when going downhills only when I'm going too fast to be comfortable with, but make sure only to apply them gently. I get the wobble problem only when I hit the rear brakes too hard and the rear tire lock up
*
Wobble because of what? I am not in drop down possition as far i remember. my hand is on top of the shifeter hood.

Butthead,

I am shaken but still alive here writing here, kinda suck cause my face is scarred and have cuts on my upper lips. that mean no good food for me for the next few days. half my face is pull of patches. Its hard to move around too with those bandgades all over me.

The 2nd video is more of like what happend to me. Just that i hold my hand onto gripping it harder. should have hold the rear brake as i came down hill.

Before that i had mini crash too as i too panic when doing some practice run and i cant unclip my pedal. Should have not ride or else this wont happend. But again if i don do now sooner or later i will crash too.

I guessed next time i would find empty parking lot and put on shoulder pad and knee pad while riding to get use to the system.

Being stuck to flat land prior to this I never tot this kind of thing will happend to me rclxub.gif

I also have the same thought before the accident. Evrything was easy. I was kinda shocked to learn that the hard way man. Checked my computer, the top speed is 40km/s at the time of crash.

I could have lost my life or borken bone or teeth (yes my lips is injured) sad.gif

Ya this is so true, in car 40kph is nothing, but on the bike 40 Kph is seriously something for me. Those pro tour rider downhill at 100 kph were crazy as far i can said.
