Hope someone here can give me some advise.

I am retiree and I intend to purchase a folding bike. Later I intend to travel to Thailand by bus. Do I have to fill any declaration form at our Kayu Hitam Custom and Thai Custom.

I am afraid that I will be taxed for my bicycle when I can back because I know that the import duty of bicycle into Malaysia is 15% and Thai Custom will tax 30% to foreigner who does not bring his bicycle out of Thailand within 30 days.

Thanks.

Thanks for your fast reply, H2D.

I know about the ASEAN agreement about non tax on asean goods but the bike that I am going to acquire is made in Europe.

I intend to buy the bicycle here and the last time I cycled was 35 years ago. I want to get use to the bike before travelling to Thailand. I will travel to Pangkor, Tioman before proceed to Thailand.

Op! Sorry for my blunder. Confused with the news that Dahon will be shipping European made bikes to North America. The bike that I am getting is Tern JoeC21.

About a month, I just started to read about bicycles. Too much info to go into my brain. Two weeks ago, it was my first time holding a bicycle helmet when I went to a bicycle. I did not know it was so light as I thought it was like a motorbike helmet. My time, bike's light run by dynamo. Ha!Ha!Ha!

Yes, Tern will be in here next month. They have appointed our local distributor here. I just wonder who is the distributor and its pricing like?

I read that some says bicycle parts or accessories are much cheaper in Thailand and some says otherwise. When I checked with http://www.probike.co.th/ regarding the folding bikes. It seem that they are selling much higher than Malaysia.

Please advise on pricing in Thailand. Cheaper than Malaysia?

tern bikes should b lerun again,as they r d current dahon dist.

I'm not sure bout the price in thai, but saw few local get theirs frm thai, as there r grey imports available there I think.

u can try seeking advice frm the thai bike forum, lotsa folding bike owners there, mebe some could understand english.

I hv a feeling tht tern price will b much more exp than dahon.. not sure....

I do not think that Tern will appoint LeRun as their distributor as Dahon is Tern's direct competitor. How LeRun will implement their marketing strategy if they are appointed distributor for Dahon and Tern.

I do not think that Tern will be more expensive than Dahon because Tern products are extension of Dahon products. Besides Dahon are the leader in folding bikes covering 60% of the world market. As a new comer, Tern should price its products competitively because its R&D costs are much less than Dahon.

I have decided to purchase my bike in Malaysia because of its warranty and service. I may buy bike accessories from Thailand..

Thanks.

well we will know in the coming months...

from wht i see of the Tern models...
it is like 'improved' version of Dahon models, very much so since Tern is run by former Dahon Global team, which design many existing Dahon models.

i think if we wana discuss folding bike should go to the folding bike thread..

I posted my questions on Malaysian Custom and Thailand Custom matter on this thread because i think this thread is more active. I was hoping that some cyclists here who had rode bikes or new bikes into Thailand can give their opinions and experiences.

I was carried away with your replies and one post leads to another. Sorry to others.
