pictures speaks a thousand words...

although there 3 major types nowadays, there are still countless drop shapes, with some extending further, some shallower, some offering a straighter section at the bottom most... and then you have wing type aero tops, cinelli made some that sweeps back towards the rider.... very confusing... but highly self preferential..

here is some explanation on compact bars by competitive cyclist...
thx butthead that pretty much summarize all my questions about handlebars notworthy.gif mine is FSA gossamer new ergo..but i couldnt identify whether it's a compact or anatomic round? i guess it's the latter am i correct?

user posted image

after watching the video i realized that even though I favor the traditional looks...what really matters is the shape that I comfort with..and I think mine is pretty ok..but i prefer the compact one..more reach towards the brake lever and shifter.

gotta save money from buying expensive handlebar...better saves money on wheelset thumbup.gif

haha. i also have the thought of getting another bike for easy ride and perhaps riding them hard enough without feeling guilty..perhaps a 2nd hand roadbike 1.5k and below budget...or could be another new low end merida...

but my cycling friend advise me not to have 2 bikes...better focus on one bike and upgrade it to the max (if you really keen to increase performance of the bike etc etc). but somehow I really want to have 2 bike..1 treated like a king..another 1 like a slave tongue.gif

in fact... you can already get a reputable one for RM70.. jus basic speed, distance, timing and clock and a wired one..
*
mine is rm80..sigma bc 1009..although my initial budget was rm250 and below..i find the cheapest one that can meet all my needs..so far i'm satisfied with my purchase. it wired nicely too around the cable smile.gif

juz finish changing rear tube on my bike..seems like the original one had a damaged valve..I can't pump the air in as the air keeps on flowing out. only that I have a slight problem getting the rear chain put in place back but now it's all good..i can safely say i can fix my rear tube on my own should it happen again on any long distance ride rclxms.gif thx to youtube.

anyway I found this video..and one word I can say..HEAVEN! thumbup.gif

*hurm why my youtube video didnt appear?

Just browse tru the net for the knee/elbow guard. Pity those ppl who post those question on the bike forum and found themselv being flame by other user for being "wuss" or "scared to death".  rclxub.gif

Its a pity that I got into shit accident before the whole thing even started. Oh well, even if it doesnt happen now it may happend in the future and i seriously feel lucky to get out unhurt.

Btw, if downhill riding down, which brake should i use? front or rear brake?
*
btw did you find any shop selling those elbow or knee pad? I'm looking for them too hehe don't care what other people say icon_idea.gif

how many of you here always ride around Putrajaya area? are there many cyclists around? say on weekend morning..i plan to do my base mile training there since the road is quite flat I think..

added question: the free wheeling sound of my rear wheel was quite low previously until yesterday when I changed the rear tube myself then the free wheeling sound is a whole lot more buzzier than before. anything that i've done wrong in putting up my rear wheel? what's the cause? thx

Problems with cycling (from my POV)

1) TIME - the number 1 problem for my case..and I plan to get either a trainer or a roller to compensate for this problem..just so my butt will familiar itself with the saddle more often rather than once a week..i got quoted a minoura around rm280..not sure which model..but i'm afraid it will hurt the bike frame..googled a lot and the opinions contradict each other (some said it ok some said not ok)

2) SUN - not a problem to me..i wore arm warmers..need to get leg warmers as well

3) RAIN- i haven't ride in rainy weather yet..later have to wash and clean..im too lazy for that hmm.gif

4) COMMUNITY - hard to get regular cycling buddies to agree on a ride session. some cancel last minute some put cycling session not at the highest priority..and I agree with butthead about having a connection with the LBS will definitely helps..the guys at pedalspot always ask me to join them wed night at Kesas everytime I came to their shop..anybody had followed them before?

5) SAFETY - ok this is also very important..I'm planning to ride to those kampung2 road...probably hulu langat..or any suggested place for good cycling environment with less traffic? I don't intend to go to Dragon Back route anymore lorries are everywhere over there (sg buloh) vmad.gif

talking about online networking activity..maybe all of us here in this thread can do a ride together? a fun ride should be ok laugh.gif

On Kesas do they ride at designated motorcycling lane or at the emergency lane of the expressway? Somehow I do find riding on expressway is quite dangerous, especially at night where you'll never know if someone doze off for a couple of seconds or drunk or etc..

BTW, does putrajaya has a cycling lane?

the fulcrums are usually quite loud.. i own FR7's... the 1st gen ones... they are loud then.. not sure about the new straight pull spoke models..

there is no possible way a tube can effect the sound of freewheel.. not that i know of... if not, it'd be a big hit as most people like loud freewheeling hubs nowadays...

that is unless you have messed with the hub locknut.... which remotely is the cause for louder noise..
then you should think how much hurt is a century ride.. quadruple of your 40k...
until now i'm not sure what it is but when I brought my bike to pedalspot..the technical guy there (I called him Joe, but derrick called him Kent, dunno which name) said that's normal as a sign of the bike has undergone its running in period. But still it happened right after I fixed my rear tube..quite weird..now its a whole lot buzzier..and it affect my mind that when free rolling down a hill the buzzy sounds like there is resistance on the bb rather than if it is less buzzy hence I feel it make my wheel slower tongue.gif

anyway where can I find Ritchey products here in KL? which bike shop? I want to search for this item. Ritchey WCS Carbon Curve Road Bars.

i suggest we group together once a week with emergency car tailing us from behind..each of us just have to pay a fees for that..say like 10 of us go together each one pay rm20 to the driver for 4 hrs ride....does tis sound abit too ridiculous?

I kind agree with this..somebody pls organize this initiative rclxms.gif

haha butthead..thx for those youtube videos..damn they sounded like a machine..feels a bit 'garang' when you suddenly approaching another cyclist on his rear wheels.

but yeah a bit troubling when you want to enjoy the peaceful scenery..but i admit I like the sound..could it be coming only from an expensive wheels?

yes bro, cycling is a good hobby..i also picked up cycling recently and so far only clocked less than 200km on my bike..the only thing that will or may degrade your new cycling spirit upon purchasing your bike is the dreaded saddle sore (pain on your pelvis bone) sweat.gif

and cycling stuffs aren't cheap if you are into upgrades, especially with the entry level bike having low end components or gears...but if you just wanna ride for fun, then any bike will do..folding bike is kinda cute too rclxms.gif

another brand should you want to consider is merida..there is one around rm2k plus range if i'm not mistaken..the merida road lite series..

Rm150? Within budget...cant wait to max out my current tires and buy a new set of tires..i hate the white color of my vittoria rubino sidewall..i want them to be all black! However it seems that my current tires get a lot of good reviews for its durability and cheap price (less than gbp15).

Or should i stay with vittoria and upgrade to rubino pro? Anyone know the price?

i think it is around RM150... can't confirm if it is that price.. furthermore.. it will take a long time to run out a pair of tyres... unless you lock the rear up every now and then.. then, that is just giving yourself an excuse to change ...

hard to get vittoria's in KL or you would have seen a lot of corsa evo cx around already...

if money is no issue.. you can aim for anything with 320tpi thread count.. it should offer a more smoother ride compared to most entry level 120tpi ones...

Thx butthead. Smoother ride and lower rolling resistance at a cost to the durability am i right?

Btw how much is garmin edge 500 here in malaysia and is it recommendable over is big brothers? I read reviews and seems that the mapping route can be exported to my mapmyride apps (my only exercise logging apps as it is free).

The reason is mapping a route using my iphone can really bring its battery to red and i didnt want to resort in bringing two mobile phones for my cycling activities.
