Hmm a bit.. Feminine for a big guy like me?

May I know how much is the price you are getting for that helmet? I have one for sale..got it free with the bike but too bad the size is not fitting my head..it's too big (size M/L). It's brand new and never used before so if anyone interested just let me know ya..willing to sell cheaper than shop..already got myself a MET helmet.

I'm using Bepanthen. So far so good. It is an ointment for nappy rash. Good thing about it no added colorant, preservatives or fragrance.
Perhaps it is not so elegant for a 'pro'/serious cyclist to you use it. But for me as long as it works fine it ok. I used it for 160km Ipoh century ride and i survived with no chaffed groin. And the good it it available in Guardians, Watson and all pharmacies.

Well this is something that i'm looking for..easy to grab at guardians and pharmacies..will lookout for it today..thx bro!

thx guys for replying. I might leave the tires / rims upgrade somewhere next year as mine is working pretty alright at my level.

anyway what's the medium range of rims / tires that I should be looking at? I googled around and those dura ace or zipp one would costs me another complete bike tongue.gif I'm not sure on the middle range..any idea on the brand and price?

even though I swear not to upgrade anything on my bike but I'm looking for a more comfier saddle..my selle x1 seems like a little bit on the stiff side for my butt..

some shitty news of the day

Velonews : Contador Banned Two Years

handed a backdated ban which holds until this year August 6.... effectively means that he loses his 2010 tour de france title, and anything he won in between then and august 6th 2012 which means his 2011 maglia rosa as well among other smaller wins...

and most importantly... no part in this years tour ...sheesh

this is sucky news...

Added on February 7, 2012, 4:00 pm

tyres you can look at are continental grand prix 4000 or michellin lithions if not too expensive for you... either that or Maxxis Detonator or Continental Ultra Sport...

i think very hard to tell what is the definition of middle range... in fact.. if you look at everything offered nowadays... the once you considered as expensive, shimano dura ace C24, C35, C50 and Zipp 303, 404s, Corima Winiums are considered now as middle range as there are already ultra exquisite wheels in the market like Reynolds RZR and lightweight...

better if you put in a budget cap..

for RM1.8k, you have Fulcrum Racing 3s, i suggest you do not think of this since i don't think you feel much difference than racing 7 although it is about 300-400 grams lighter than yours at 1550 grams... unless you sell yours now and top up to get this...
http://www.fulcrumwheels.com/en/collection...oducts/racing-3

for around a bit more than RM2k region.. i guess you can expect some SRAM S30s with Zipp's hybrid toroidal rim shape
http://www.sram.com/sram/road/products/s30-al-race-wheelset

for RM2.5k you have the spinergy xaero lite with their unusual pbo spokes, there is also a pair of reynolds carbon in tmn tun ksh for just a tad under RM3k i heard...
http://www.spinergy.com/catalog/product_in...?products_id=83

for above RM3k and around RM4k you can think of fulcrum Racing 1 or zero and i believe a set of Easton EA90s from Orbea at sri hartamas or Zipps only alloy wheel the 101 (shares everything with their carbon counterparts except a carbon rim)
http://www.fulcrumwheels.com/en/collection...cts/racing-zero
http://zipp.com/wheels/101-clincher/
http://www.eastoncycling.com/en-us/ea90-slx-698

anything above 5k will be Zipp, Corima, FFwd at joo ngan son and Easton EC90 series
http://www.zipp.com/wheels/303-firecrest---carbon-clincher/
http://www.eastoncycling.com/en-us/road/pr...ce/ec90-slx-714
http://www.corima.com/wheels/winium-plus-carbon-wheel.html
http://www.corima.com/wheels/winium-plus-m...rbon-wheel.html

other than that, i am not too sure what KH or Bikepro is holding for Mavic nowadays... there is always the every reliable Mavic Ksyrium elites or SL premiums... elite under RM3k and SL premiums more than 3k i think... and the Cosmic elite or Cosmic Carbones

if you can wait... KSH has brought in Chris King line of hubs and possible looking at taking in Zipp rims to build Chris King / Zipp combos... go ask them and see but i don't expect it to fall under RM4k as the hubs itself will cost close to 2k...

the good thing with SRAM or Zipp is that you can pair them up like a S40 front / S60 rear combo or Zipp 303 front / Zipp 404 rear combo if you need to... but pricey though as you say...

saddle i won't say much because it is a highly personal thing.. there are a lot out there nowadays.. Bontrager at joo ngan son, Specialized BG Fit at GH Speedbikes, prologo at KSH SS2, Fizik at Rodalink...

generally quite a lot of Fizik nowadays with prologo infiltrating the market a bit... i personally like the concept of Specialized BG Fit saddles with their multiple size per saddle model for better seat bone support... but their price has scared me away...

you have the Selle X1 right? i have felt it before and it is kinda hard... but sometimes it is the contrary that is better for long hours in the saddle... i felt the specialized ones and they are tend to be quite hard as well except their gel models.
*
thank you butthead for the informative reply. now I know about the brands available according to the budget..seems like my next upgrade would be around rm2k only tongue.gif

somehow those big rims (is it big? like dura ace c50) looks more garang. and the price is garang also..

looking into a proper pedal now..gonna try look, Keo...at first i thought I don't need it at the early stage but seems like i should have them early. not another poisoned case but it's a necessity..did another 11km evening ride at Bkt Tunku today and I think with a proper cycling shoes and pedal I can perform better.

Loving my merida. although I feel a bit uneasy because I push it hard during the short downhill section at the hill..the road was rough and patchy..with bumps some more. hopefully the hard ride will not cause any crack on the frame or fork. wink.gif

btw..does anyone here use imapmyride apps? good to mapped your route..if you have, add me as friend thumbup.gif

Wah luckiliy they didn't get you to buy zero100? for only 20 grams saving... i rather buy the Zero1 and save myself 200 bucks...

just remember to keep telling yourself to unclip everytime you come to a stop... until you get the hang of it and it becomes automatic.

if you wanna try look pedals.. don't go with the easy model... at least get classic as easy has no spring tension adjust... you regret later for just saving a couple of tens... keo2max although has a wider platform... but if you can spend, then it is also a good choice...just dun try keo2max carbon or blade.. those are overkill...

rough patches won't kill your carbon frame.. carbon frame is quite tough and just by riding it hard won't kill it... it needs a single point of high impact force to at least crack it... which is why i always use the term not crashworthy since no one (maybe no one) has ever ride a carbon frame to oblivion.. mostly they have at least gave it some trashing...
thx butthead. any idea of cost estimation of those keo classic or keo 2 max? browsed through Look's website and it stated there keo 2 max is for maximum power and maximum realiability..how is that differs from keo classic in terms of providing more power? hurmm..

about the carbon thrashing thingy...aah..finally..what a relieve to hear such statement..haha. rclxms.gif my concern is on the front fork..thought it couldn't bear the rough roads..especially when you are speeding downhill..well at least I gave the bike a taste of the hills..i have not try other bikes yet but I kinda love my bike..when I push hard the frames feels responsive..catapulting me forward and forward..feels gr8! tongue.gif i wonder how does those super duper expensive frames feels like.

btw im gonna have my 1st long distance ride this coming weekend..around 60km..hopefully can make it.

Ya this is so true, in car 40kph is nothing, but on the bike 40 Kph is seriously something for me. Those pro tour rider downhill at 100 kph were crazy as far i can said.

I now have somekind of phobia, i dunno how to deal with it when I wanna go back to cycling. rclxub.gif

I have a question regarding trainer machine. I saw one priced at rm580...is it good? my friend have the roller thingy but he said that one is pretty hard to balance on for beginners...which one is preferable? trainer or roller?

I need to let my itchy legs moving..furthermore it's a new bike hence I want to ride it often indoor and outdoor...at the moment I can only watch my bike on the bikestand..sometimes I work late and no time to cycle outdoor smile.gif

thx in advance.

it depends on what you want to do...

for trainers

the good
- trainers offer resistance and you can vary it depending on what you want to do
- good substitute for days when you can't go out and ride... much like the rigs for RPM classes

the bad
- you might need to buy equipment to run trainers, extra wheel or tyres
- trainers put strains on bike components like wearing down tyres and stuff
- most trainers don't allow a lot of motion while pedaling... with the exception of the new kurt kinetic rock and roll Kurt Kinetic Rock n Roll
for rollers

the good
- can do intervals training
- i think can be good for concentrating on improving pedal strokes
- i think it can also let you improve your on bike balance
- practically do anything you want on the roller, consider it a static rolling road

the bad
- offer little resistance
- takes some use to balance and get onto the roller

for real training, my vote goes to trainers although they feel boring and no different from riding exercise bikes.. but resistance training is the way to go if you intend to use it for indoor workouts...

something to add on as i just remembered, i did read about something regarding trainers on carbon frames in your case... something about trainers being static and the carbon frames will be loaded with quite some stress since the trainers don't allow it to move and have to force the frame to flex...

not sure how this is or any evidence behind to support this.. haven't gone to read up on it... but should warrant a check by yourself if you interest falls on trainers...
Thanks butthead..now that really helps in term of me deciding between the two. I was about to ask you other than tyres what other stuffs will be wore down..so carbon frame is not recommended to be use with a trainer..that sounds logic as stresses will be put on the frame due to restriction in movement...

Anyway for a used 2008 giant tcr 3 model priced at rm1.2k issit too expensive or what is the normal price for such model (used) with sora.

yeay.managed to finish my 1st 60km ride at sg buloh...clocked it at 2hrs and 54mins...my friend call it Dragon Back...we continue further to complete the whole loop..lot's of cyclists riding around that area..couldnt really keep up with the regulars there...and i think my friend is a hill climbing robot...different level from me the beginner tongue.gif

today was quite bad... lorries were everywhere and it's quite dangerous. so far so good, only that I have butt ache..hurm time to change to a comfier saddle and a proper bike shoe and pedal is a must! managed to clock my new max speed..64kmh rclxms.gif

it was freaking hot..40'C..got a leg cramp after having a short rest..lactic acid built up i think...

gonna ride more n more..next would be genting sempah and peres...but I have to train few times more at bukit tunku smile.gif

any riders around cheras area? sri petaling, bkt jalil or sri permaisuri? smile.gif
i hv a saddle sore after the long ride...hence I bought prologo scratch ti 1.4 (titanium railing not carbon as the latter is way too expensive) saddle after reading so many reviews about it..

hopefully that will fit my butt the best. but I know I will always buy a saddle until I found the right one..huhu..

now im thinking and thinking of making my bike lighter..already remove my saddle bag..all the kits will just go into my jersey back pocket next time..will be eyeing for a carbon handlebar and stem..any recommendation? budget 1.2k n below smile.gif but is changing to a lighter rims/wheelset will be more significant in reducing the weight of a bike? thx guys

edited: yea of course lighter rims will shed more grams...silly question.. tongue.gif

the age ol question of shedding weight... in as simplest as possible explanation.. shedding weight on the wheels have a more immediate effect than just figures on the scale as you are shedding rotational weight that you have to spin up when accelerating...

that being said... shedding weight from wheels are costly as the dollar per gram saved gets steeper as you get lighter wheels... not to mention the reliability and durability of light wheels especially if you are a heavy rider...

with handlebars... you have practically 2 routes for weight savings... integrated handlebars or normal lightweight carbon bars...

for integrated you have the

Deda Alanera...never seen in Malaysia
http://www.dedaelementi.com/index.php?page...mid=152&lang=en

the probike gear stealth evo...
http://www.pro-bikegear.com/publish/conten...e-PRHASTEV.html

for the split stem and handle combos

Deda OS 35 series... i know this costs in xccess of RM1.4k...
http://www.dedaelementi.com/index.php?page...mid=162&lang=en
http://www.dedaelementi.com/index.php?page...emid=90&lang=en

or the Easton EC90 series
http://www.eastoncycling.com/en-us/road/pr...ace/ec90-sl-400
http://www.eastoncycling.com/en-us/road/pr...e/ec90-slx3-304

integrated ones are generally lighter and i think also stiffer since there no joint interface between handle and stem.. but you have to know your exact specs that you need or any mess up means junking the entire set of integrated bars...

Added on February 13, 2012, 11:08 pm

or if he lives nearer to pj area... he can also ride with the ss2 shop bunch... same time but from sunway area to sri petaling and then back...
*
thanks butthead..that pretty much answering my question. I guess I will go with the handlebar route first..I think I saw that deda 35 at pedalspot..not sure about the price though. BTW, that 1.4k price is not inclusive of the stem am I right?

lighter wheels will be the last thing I want to upgrade..but those bars or whatever if it can be converted into carbon then it would be nice..when comes to Malaysia merida bikes seems to have been downgraded in terms of their parts. I kinda dissatisfied hence want to replace those parts with a better one..slowly throughout the year (my 2012 project).

I am 65-67kg and it fluctuates..i guess shedding my own kilos is the best + cost saving, but that will be done parallel with shedding the weight of the bike tongue.gif

wow..got people who really was an elite cyclist in this thread. that's great...although I've googled a lot for cycling tips, I still wanna hear from you guys here about climbing tips.

from what I know:

1) sitting on the saddle during a climb can save more energy than if you were to ride out of the saddle (which will put your whole weight onto your leg, thus not good in conserving energy)

2) sit more upright and hands on the hood as to allow your lung to become bigger than if you were to put your hands on the drop

3)....
4)....

anymore that i'm missing? care to share your climbing tips.....i'm going for a ride that gonna have lot of climbing sections in the coming next 2 weeks smile.gif thx guys

I'm not sure how to multiquote but thx butthead and tenno for the climbing tips! smile.gif will try myself..i also don't like climbing haha.

oit..won't spoil my party lah that scultura SL team is way way over my budget. 5500gbp... @_@ but I do envy the colors...hurmmmmmm

i just pray that the new scultura line will be release next year..not this year please! if it is i'll swear i'll upgrade my bike to the fullest so I feel great abt it haha..

edited: by the way the frame does look like specialized bikes..i heard that merida produces specialized bikes too..is that right? they own part of the company issit? what brand is the handlebar? looks good..mine the drops feels kinda weird..not curve enough and not my taste
