QUOTE(justnits @ Jul 26 2017, 01:29 PM) i can see your discovery of non-standard row and standard row comes from corsair k70, after that it's a new discovery of wallet hacking hahaha that is true in my case. i think it's not the worst yet; i am still exploring build quality of each brand-board and switches-for now; the worst is when i go into custom boards. (which i save it for last because that one might be very expensive) |

QUOTE(justnits @ Jul 26 2017, 01:45 PM) the overall cost for custom boards might be more expensive than retail keyboards. yes overall costs will be much higher for custom boards. however i think it's much cheaper in the long run. the main reason that i put custom at the last part of my mkb journey is because i don't have patience like you guys. for now i cannot imagine soldering all components on my own.but one good thing about custom boards is, you can buy different components at your own affordability and convenience. i sort of got parts for my custom boards in a span of 3 months, so the overall cost of my custom boards is divided across 3 months, not so sakit compared to paying one lum sum of it. there is a potential (and partial) solution to this: holtites, for switches and leds, because i think i will play more with switches especially. now i hope to get a leopold tkl and more varmilo. (besides filco, i like varmilo a lot) This post has been edited by horns: Jul 26 2017, 05:32 PM |

QUOTE(justnits @ Jul 26 2017, 05:53 PM) you put custom as last part of your mkb journey? that might just reset your whole mkb journey to season 2 aiyo don't make me think of that first lol ![]() basically i will use the same pcb (maybe more than one hehe) with holtites for different switches and key caps. imo that's the better part of a custom board (my beginning of the personal version of end game, which leads to no end hehe) -- so far of all the pre-built cherry mx boards that i have, filco and varmilo stand out in terms of build quality. for back-lit boards, personally i like ikbc more. (as a typical user) about gaming boards, they are over priced in general. (look at asus claymore core; that's like too much to me; at least corsair still introduce rare switches once in a while) you can always get a better mkb for a fraction of gaming board's price. edit: btw poisons in malaysia mkb fb are so.. poisonous haha! QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Jul 31 2017, 08:06 PM) Oh, this won't bother me as I am not a modified guy and won't do that. I seldom modified thing because I prefer original look, I am actually dislike modification, I feel the thing is broken if it is modified. right just get the ones that you think ok. that's all that matters. for things like mkbs, we all have different needs, so it's subjective most of the times. the final choice is still always up to buyers to decide. (it's like your choice about originality of a product as a whole; to me modded versions are better hahaha)This is also the reason I don't buy those skins because it is not perfect and well notice it is a sticker. I hate sticker and anything skins. That the reason I don't use screen protector and I need to 100% remove all sticker / plastic on the device. Also I won't stick anything on anything I own. I am maybe origin perfectionist, that the reason modification can't fulfill me as I will know it is modified not origin. Difficult to explain, in short I don't modified thing. If one of the button in keyboard is broken and need replace, I need to assure it is replace from original accessory else very sorry I may not able to use it because it is not perfect to me anymore. Maybe you will said change the whole set key but in my mine I know it is not original suppose key, and this is very bugging me and I can't accept it. How nice a modification, I still prefer origin and I can only accept origin. Even repair thing I sometimes also can't accept because I know it get open for repairing. I am not rich but just this is my very bad habit, I just simply can't accept anything is different than it suppose to. there are all types of mkb users, hence different suggestions, with different expectations in price. some suggest boards that are practical in the long run, based on experience (e.g. better build quality; convenience for self repairs, replacement and customization; etc), while some look at entire different areas all together. it's fine imo. we are here to share what we know about mkbs (of a particular model, or in general), so that for those who are interested know what they are getting into later on. the main reason that i think iKBC boards are of better values is because it's also taking care of the one thing gaming board manufacturers fail to do, i.e. durability of their products as a whole. in this case i mean key caps in practical sense (it's an eye sore to me when stock key caps began to wear off hehe). yes backlit colors will not be as vibrant with double-shot pbt, but it lasts even under heavy use. edit: i still use my k70 rgb. i still like it. QUOTE(quovadis123 @ Jul 31 2017, 09:49 PM) ![]() Just a sample photo from what keyboards that you will encounter in the keyboard enthusiast community. When you dig deeper, you can have unlimited customisation. You can have your own custom switch, custom design board. Not necessary special keyboard is expensive though. |

QUOTE(quovadis123 @ Aug 1 2017, 09:18 AM) wow thanks a lot it will be a lot of fun i can foresee that when i start my journey for custom boards haha edit: it's too bad i need win keys for work purposes (win + numbers to launch software at least lol); those without win keys at the right positions are out from my check list for casings. QUOTE(irsyadfy @ Aug 1 2017, 02:47 PM) not too bad since its custom and u can reassign keys anyway u like. yeah they can be reassigned, but to me i need them to be at default positions. it's just my habit. not too bad too since some custom got winkey too. hewhew when i don't need them, i will lock them down. for varmilo it's right fn+win; very convenient to me hehe |

hm is it's just me? i think thicker key caps have lesser wobbling effects on switches. i put thick caps on ducky zero and it's like relatively more solid to type on?

QUOTE(NoobboyZzZ @ Aug 7 2017, 06:32 AM) imma looking at g810 or g910 logitech keyboard .. any recomendation? ... lol your logitech options all use romer-g switches, that means you have very limited options to replace switches and key caps if some of them have gone bad.or any others brand is better? hmm And also looking at Corsair K70 RGB , and which cherry mx is better? Speed or ... otherwise wish you guys can guide me thx! k70 rgb is relatively flexible because it uses cherry mx switches, and you get to play with various compatible key caps. switches wise, it's like key caps, it's up to your personal preference. the closest to romer-g switcheis cherry mx speed/silver. my personal choices for now are still iKBC f87 or f108. |

Does rubber paint smell after applying? QUOTE(clawhammer @ Aug 9 2017, 01:26 AM) I used to own the K70 and it's a great keyboard. Of course, it's quite an old model now. Currently I have the Logitech G PRO that uses their own switch. It feels more or less the same to me but of course, I'm not a professional. romer-g bo song one lah; better get something with cherry-style switches bro |

QUOTE(clare01 @ Aug 9 2017, 04:03 PM) Hi, just wonder why there isn't much talk on logitech keyboard? are they not any good? it's really not about good or bad. it's about personal preference, i.e. how far you wanna go in terms of repairs and customization, then options for you to choose from in terms of modding in the long run (e.g. keycaps, switches, case, etc. basically everything in that board hehe). if customization is not your cup of tea, then just go ahead grab it.I been eyeing on their G610 Orion recently which come with blue/brown cherry switches. Anyone here experience it before? Mind to share? |

QUOTE(clare01 @ Aug 9 2017, 04:50 PM) For starter, I'm not a hardcore gamer/keyboard enthusiastic. This will be my first try on mechanical keyboard and I has no experience on this matter at all. for starters, just grab one with cherry-mx switches of your choice and use it. for logitech boards that come with cherry-mx switches, then yes you can have some fun, at least replacing key caps when they have gone bad. So if I pick logitech there is no room for customization am I right? How about repair? Is it hard to get a logitech keyboard repair here in Malaysia? don't worry about repairs. usually mkbs last for a long time. my corsair k70 rgb is still working nicely even if i have treated it drinks many times. |
