omg... i'm leaving tomorrow and yet my gerbil still with me... really hope tonite crazymouse got car...

Ah, your gerbils save and sound in my home now. I can clearly see your DEH is bigger than the agouti.... he is as big as my Silver hahahah.... Lucky my aunt is free, if not I also dunno how to take your gerbils loh. But luckily can lah.

Oh I got 1 question. Gerbils heat tolerance should be higher than hamster right? I plan to leave my gerbils outdoor when I get them from nezu. Don't worry it's not that HOT. It's fully shaded. Nearby the car posh. Should be fine right?
*
Never put gerbils outside... coz cats lah... later become food. Also these days heatwave very bad. I have to keep a few hamsters outside, a few died due to heatstroke. The best rodents that can tolerate heat outside are rats and mice... somehow they can sweat instead of drool. Gerbils can tolerate but then risky lah. You must give big bottle of water if you place outside. Again, I more concern of their safety against predators.

Oh, Hun helps you to take care of your gerbils when you go back to your hometown ar...
Better put your gerbils inside your house to avoid attracting unwelcomed guests.
*
haha.. well to what I understand, gerbils are desert animals mar.. hmm.. unwelcomed guests as in thief or animals? If animals don't worry la.. I have my ways to make sure cats won't come.. if thief ar.. erm.. do you think someone is willing to jump in the house and take a whole tank of gerbils away? I think they'd rather steal my shoes outside. LOL.. kena many times alrd..

Desert animals, yes lah but then in the wild, they dig burrows into the dark cool underground, away from sun light and heat to keep cool. In our tanks, we got no underground tunnel for them and woodshavings and hay cannot keep cool.

I tried before lah, put 1 gerbil outside my porch.... he drool and drool... almost pengsan. I brought to a McD outside Ikano, those who went for the gathering would know. They saw all my gerbils drool with heat. Imagine, only McD the shedded area and already they drool. So of course they are not suitable for outdoor if stay in woodshaving or any type of bedding.

oh... icic. Usually what are the indications of 'overheat' for hamsters and gerbils. I tried leaving my hamster outside and I monitor it every hour. I check on its nose but everything seems fine. Not wet at all. Is it a clear indication that the temperature is fine for my hamster?

When too hot, the fur is not smooth but scruffy. Also the cheek pouches for hamsters would be swollen with saliva and the mouth is wet. For gerbils, the fur is untidy a bit and the mouth and hands are wet.

Well, if you do not see any wetness around the mouth area... then I guess it is fine.... but as said before, our weather is changing so the heat can be different each day.

i hope u can keep them indoor, cos i prefer my gerbils always stay close to human, if no i wouldn't spend so much time to tame them.

QUOTE(kaylong @ Feb 11 2007, 10:24 PM)
aik..
why suddenly people talk bout taro..
waaa taro become famous  already..

question2..
forgot to ask that day in hurry to pick my my rabbit from grooming... ;p
how many days have to use the split cage..?? 1 week enough tak..??
i rotate who should be in the cage everyday..
today the young boys tomorrow the older boys..
now can c the diff cleary interm of size..
hahahahaha
*
do they show any aggressive sign? if not sign is show.. u keep them like that for 2 - 3 days, take all of them out put on the tank cover, put one by one, see if they can get along. if they ok, put on the cover for 30 mins. if everything ok, then u wash ur tank with sabun, no more smell, put new bedding everything new, no toy, only bedding n hay. put them in.. n see.. if everything ok... next day u can put in ceramic n glass toy ( wash also), wodden toy always carry smell, put in after 2 weeks time.

if they show aggressive, keep sawping them every 2 days, until u see them don't bother each other, then do the same as above. do it slow ok. always wear glove or hold a cloth with u when u intro them. fight can give u bad bite.

Keith just passed away sad.gif he was still slightly warm when I saw he was no longer breathing. Sigh... he's still young. No sickness, no wounds nothing. Somehow I feel he died of old age because he has been sleeping more and looking a bit tired lately. It was still a great shock tho, since hes not even 2 years old.

Anyway at the very least he had a good life, as alpha male of his colony, and fathered 10 gerbils. he died very peacefully like sleeping. I'm just sorry that I didnt spend as much time with him as when I first got him, but he was very happy ruling his male colony of 5 gerbils.

RIP Keith...

Heres the last pics I took of him while he was still warm in my hands. I cant belive he's gone, he looks like taking one of his naps. Sigh... he was my 1st gerbil along with Pecan(died a few months ago). I'll bury him together with her tomorrow.
