QUOTE(brian12988 @ Feb 8 2007, 11:46 AM) my dad bought a honda accord in 2004 and now it has been having a gearbox problem....till yesterday it just died(as in it doesnt move even if u floored the gas) up hill......so there are two choices for him to take...and he decided that he will get a recon gearbox for like RM4K to be installed today.......and it wont even last very long(dats wat he says though). A new gearbox would cost like RM21k.. First and foremost, did your father ever changed the gearbox oil the moment he bought it ? the lesson learnt here is that Honda Cars stink......and it wont stink anymore if they extended the gearbox warranty to like wat 10 years....So DO NOT i repeat DO NOT buy honda cars......... i would recommed a nissan bcoz it has a murrano....very beaituful....and my dream car for now... I am going to assume that its a used car, and if I were in your father's shoe, I would take it for oil change, straight away. The previous owner most likely did not change the oil. So I doubt your later claims that it had been changed. Do not straight away generalise that Honda car stinks. It could be your father's fault for not changing the ATF oil at the first time he took the car. It disgusts me and other proud Honda Owners. No car manufacturer would ever give you a 10 year warranty (not even on the Gearbox alone), Newbie. Even I doubt Proton's 5 year or 175,000KM warranty. Good sales gimmick, Proton. Get a (proper) life, Newbie. Your childishness is intolerable. And oh BTW, your dream Murano, would also break down if you just continue to drive without caring it. Let us know when you physically bought a Murano. Show us some pictures of you (and your GF,if you have one) with your Murano, and if ever the CVT breakdown, let us know how much it costed you to replace a new one (or a used one). if there is free service for the accord and it's bought in 04, the car is most likely bought new, and if it's new, the warranty should still be around (at worst case, about 1 month+ over).
If it's under warranty you can get it replaced for free, if it's past the warranty for 1 month, you can raise the issue to handa malaysia and ask for warranty replacement, most likely they'll honour it but you'll need to pay for labour and fluid. as for the murano, it cost almost 2x the accord, and since you like it so much, why not ask you father to sell of the accord and get a murano instead (it should give you lifetime problem free motoring, from how you described it to be) btw, which model/generation is it? is it a 2.0, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 or 3.0 model with or without VTEC/iVTEC This post has been edited by electron: Feb 10 2007, 05:55 PM |

Doesn't really matter which model the father drives. There are only a few problems in honda's transmission in history. The 3.0 V6 in the US ( model 1998- 2002 ) is one I can think of. As for the ones sold in Malaysia, I've not seen any faulty gearbox that has been confirmed by Honda. I shift the gear box alot but also change the ATF alot to make sure it doesn't burn. |

Let me share something informatic with you, actually the model u talking about is the Accord 2.0 VTEC Year 2000 right with F20A engine.. ok here's what happen..last 2year my father's car transmission have slipping problem(when gear is engage,u press the accelerator the car just like revving without moving much) this is what happen, the clutch in the gear box has worn not just that but something leathery(i dunno what is that call) else..reason is because the Automatic transmission is not maintain well and high revving always..by spec should be 20k km change once.. when the oil is being flush..the smell is so bad like burn things..the oil is darn dark in colour wherelese the new one is something pinkish.. and also the mechanic add in..he say this honda model batch has alot of problem for its gear box,not so lasting..many ppl complaining about it,this is why its price drop so fast for its 2nd hand car,i mean cheap(last year or last two years the price is 80k now is around 40k+ only)..and not just about its maintanance is part of the company fault oso because the gear box isnt mated so well.. so my dad did the same,Rm4k recon gear box masuk..till now still ok but still got some slip sometime but very rare.. last word..must change the ATF every 20k km!!! to prevent that from happen..because till now my dad still did not change till pass 2days which i took it for a change..is like over 10k km already =.= part of the wrong is to blame that particular honda service center for not telling my dad to change This post has been edited by [ r u g a ]: Feb 13 2007, 08:30 PM |
