Hey all, i'm currently working on a project for my car. It's to install a computer in a car for entertainment and also use it for google searches, online tv, and movies (i know this can be solved with a simple dual din HU, but having a computer in a car allows you to keep terabytes of movies all together. And they're removable

)
So,let's start off. First of all, i'm in a dilemma whether to install Mac or windows.
Mac mini is extremely small and i only have to mod my dashboard compartment to put it in there but for the windows system, i have to bring all the wirings back as the system will be placed at the back.
Recommend me on this please.
Second, custom made LCD holder on my dashboard. I'll be using at least 13" or less screen size. Or just buy a photo frame which has hdmi input. So, can i make a hole in my dashboard and send to shop to fabricate a suitable frame for my lcd ? ( like the ones in "west coast customs"

)
Third, i'll be remaking my centre console (gear part there) myself using high quality wood and other necessary items (YES, i have all the tools and skills to do it, i've learnt how to do it and have experience doing it ) But, one problem, is there any place that wraps that console i made with pvc ? The exact colour which is in Grand Livina's ? Nice cream colour one. Reason i'm doing this is to custom make my own arm rest , pull in wires for my usb hubs (coming from the pc) , and my ipod controls (dual din HU) , and also AUX.
Fourth, POWER SUPPLY !!!

How guys ? I know that i can use a inverter but i dont want that as its too messy. Any idea to hook it up directly to the battery ? I'll be connecting a switch and a fuse to turn it off and protecting the pc.
And about the keyboard and mouse, i've already got a Mac keyboard with a Microsoft wireless mouse.
Hey mate... relax... your imagination is too simplified. Mac mini is small? i think it is too big. Now mini ITX all is 4"x4" size and it is cheap as well. If you going to use Mac, what frontend software do you want to use? there is not much choice. I would say custom a pc better using atom motherboard like D945GCLF2D or newer versions like D550M0 or anything. If you want to have freedom! then use a mainboard with PCI slots available so you can change soundcard or add any PCI device if you want. Zotax, Intel MSI or any mainboard will do.
Ok mainboard topic done.
Mainboard power supply... you can get industrial Smart 12v power supply system like M2ATX or M4ATX for heavy gadget user. those power supply will switch on your pc and off your pc when you on/off the ignition key and it built-in a very good power regulator too. The power supply input is 3 wires (Ground, +12ve and +12ve Ignition) and the output is 24pin ATX molex. Price should be around RM400 + shipping to Malaysia.
Ok Power done
Now lets talk about screen.... you can have 13" or any size you want but not to forget the touchscreen and UV capabilities of the screen. Most of the LCD cant withstand the heat and some you cant see anything at all when there is sunlight. LCD is not an easy object to find the match..... a good 7" VGA LED LCD with ROHS industrial touch screen film would cost about RM700. So far i dont have any issue with my LCD after 4 years.
Conclusion
Get a good LCD with touchscreen and a good Power Supply because this would last u a decades. Anything you upgrade will not effect the LCD or PSU. Front end software i use Centrafuse coz it still the best for me but if you like free ones and diy stuff try riderunner.
