hi folks. i am thinking of building my own car pc. i have some experience assembling pcs and no issues with software (work in IT industry). my problem is the car hardware part. things like how to hook up the audio to car speakers? how to connect reverse camera and have it activate when reversing? wiring?!?! how to wire gps and where to put it etc. how to connect the car's obdii port? where to put microphone - can it be built into the 2din chassis?? etc

my goals are
1. hv the unit look as oem as possible. i.e. i dont want unsightly wires sticking out here and there.
2. ideally everything encased in a nice 2-din chassis because i can transfer it to another car in the future if i sell my ride.
help?!?!

It is possible to integrate everything into a 2 din casing just there might b some heat issue. There is this Bybyte mini itx double din casing and an internal 2 channel amplifier available from mp3car.com store but price seem to be on the high side. This setup is only good if you plan on using back your factory speakers for audio.

Separate placement for everything does have same advantages.. My car was broke into and my touchscreen lcd and wireless keyboard was stolen. Luckly is just the Lcd that is gone.. My cpu is safely in my boot.

As for the gps placement, best if place on dashboard or maybe stick it on your windshield behind your rear view mirror. ..i hide mine under my dashboard.. Signal albit weaker, sometimes cannot get lock on from cold start. But im using the cheap china gps module la.. Those SiRFstarIII chipset without internal battery ones.

Added on April 26, 2012, 11:20 amPlaning to revive my carPc. Came across this 7" Touch Screen LCD. It has everything! HDMI, LED backlight, comes with an battery adaptor, Samsung panel, reverse camera trigger..etc etc. Price is reasonable too..what say you. 

Bro mxsteven, do you use mic for your carPc for calls and voice command? What kind of mic are you using? Im using those normal pc mic but whenever im on handsfree, ppl from the other end always complain about the echo.. 

Bro, what are the specs for the LED panel? Size, inputs, resolution, reverse cam trigger?
