My question: Transfer fund to a Debit Card issued in Malaysia, the fund will go to the Current/Savings account (Malaysia)? You tried before? (not possible via MEPS IBFT, but not sure via Visa/Mastercard)

I have some CCs giving 0-0.2% CB/reward, so using a Debit card for VAT/GST refund is not my option. Compared to the refund amount, the impact will be minimal.

I am sorry that I misunderstood your post, thinking that it was about using Visa Direct to overseas debit card, instead of your intended meaning of using Visa Direct to Malaysian debit card.

Yes, in my access to internet banking website for overseas savings account, there is a function to use Visa Direct. Logically speaking, I have the ability to use Visa Direct, to transfer money to debit card issued by banks in Malaysia. After the money transfer via Visa processing network, the money should logically be reflected in the savings account linked to debit card, a few minutes later. It is actually much faster than online remittance. However, it is not cost-effective to use Visa Direct, due to service fee and higher spread in currency exchange.

Nevertheless, I myself have not used Visa Direct to transfer money to debit card issued by banks in Malaysia. It is because other fintechs with lower spread in currency exchange do exist, such as TransferWise, which are more beneficial for us users.

So, from your prior experience, does the tax refund wipe out completely 0.2% CB/reward in your credit card? Yeah, it is insignificant as you said, so you do not mind. I respect your choice. smile.gif

For sure, we all agree that we should not use Maybank FC Barcelona Visa Signature Card for tax refund during May and August, because the tax refund will wipe out our precious 10% cashback.

Thank you for sharing your pleasant experience, ryan18. rclxm9.gif

You proved that we can successfully use Visa and MasterCard debit card, for tax refund in foreign countries. Thus, we can avoid using our credit cards (particularly credit cards with cashback) for tax refund in foreign countries, so that we can prevent tax refund wiping out the cashback completely.

After that, can you withdraw the money of the tax refund via ATM, from the savings account linked to that debit card?

Cheers, mate. smile.gif

Which bank is the partner bank for Maxis Pay (https://pay.maxis.com.my)?

If the bank is not Maybank, it should not be necessary for me to use Maybank FC Barcelona Visa Signature Credit Card, for Maxis Pay, at around 11.30 pm to 11.59 pm on 31 May, so that the transaction will be posted in June.

I can then use the card earlier during daytime on 31 May.

Thank you for the information.

aside from the usual updated T&C and PDS due to ewallet, possible that maybank is closing the cross-month loophole?...

I feel that Clause 5 is not 100% clear. Clause 5 can possibly interpreted as follows:

5a) In order to entitle for cash rebate paid out for the month of August 2019, the retail transaction has to be posted into the account by merchants ( not floating) by 31 August 2019.

5b) In order to entitle for cash rebate paid out for the month of September 2019, the retail transaction has to be posted into the account by merchants ( not floating) by 30 September 2019.

The 5a interpretation is still co-exist with the original Clause 4, if we interpret Clause 4 as follows:

4a Cash rebate is awarded based on transaction date irrespective of the posting date
(eg transaction dated 30/8 posted on 2/9, the cash rebate percentage will be calculated based on 30/8 (August month))

In other words, the inclusion of Clause 4 and Clause 5 still obeys our existing understanding of cashback for Maybank cards: cashback percentage based on transaction date (which obeys Clause 4), cashback payout month based on posting date (which obeys Clause 5).

This is just my opinion, though.

As per the latest cash back terms and conditions of Maybank FC Barcelona Visa Signature, telecommunication services are deemed as utilities with MCC 4900.

If I am not mistaken, the MCC of telecommunication services is not 4900.

Is the inclusion of telecommunication services a some sort of mistake in terms and conditions?
