Yeah, the only thing we can do is just wait for the update, fingers crossed Apple Pay will launch in Q1 2022

Samsung pay doesn't need any petition. I never know any petition that does matter. Just waste of time in my opinion 🤷‍♀️😁

from my friend who works at BNM

BNM doesnt like :

1) Multi device authentication of apple pay (1 card can be used on phone and watch)
2) Apple pay doesnt require pin for transactions above RM250
3) Apple pay doesnt have a daily limit for contactless transactions

Not sure if above applies to samsung pay also?

Whether you bullshit or your friend bullshitting you. Doesn't make sense at all. All those things up to card issuer nothing to do with apple pay

Wow, TS appeared haha.
I see. Do you guys know the person that’s is withholding the signing off AP usage in MY inside BxM? If so, is the person a relatively old guy or they are all this cautious upon launching something new that involves money?
*
It's nothing new. Samsung pay has been here for ages. And we have duitnow and all sorts of ewallets in Malaysia.
It's not about being old etc

If BXM reject AP regarding the security issues,, thn you are really a JOKE! Malaysia eWallet & on9 payment security protocol (standard) is still very LOW & can't even meet/compare the China standard! Thn still scare AP secuirty matter this and that la,, heyy,, this is really no point and SHAME la since you can't even make a strong security protocol for the eWallet & on9 payment in Malaysia! And you point back to AP security layers???!!!  Even nowadays bank tac can get hack ar or bank acc missing $$ (not to mention personal fault)

In Malaysia, I only trust TnG because of the Ali team behind!

So drama!!!🤷‍♀️

even if it comes here i dont think many would use it. if terminal dont accept or 'rosak' then you still need the card anyway. kinda dumb but i feel like i can see this not going well since its not a malaysian made thing and the kronies will want to push it down as much as possible

Clearly you don't understand how apple pay works 🤷

Meant to say 2022. Whoopsie
Same 3 issues I mentioned before

1) Multi device authentication of apple pay (1 card can be used on phone and watch, current policy is 1 Device Primacy Acc Number (DPAN) to 1 card)
2) Apple pay doesnt require pin for transactions above RM250
3) Apple pay doesnt have a daily limit for contactless transactions (currently RM1000)

All 3 requires either policy update OR exemption, which is what I'm guessing Samsung Pay got.

Anyway, seems like another core issue is some old guy just dismissing the whole idea of Apple Pay.
*
The card issuer that needs to impose any limit not apple pay. Apple pay merely a platform to use physical card in electronic form 🤷
All those things are similar with samsung pay that have been introduced in Malaysia for ages, nothing new

never liked ewallet to begin with. too many stupid shit within them in an attempt to monopolize the industry. too many of them starting up their own ewallet in an attempt to take the most profit for themselves. if all band together and use one common ewallet like china then not so bad. but this is just ridiculous. AP has so many more advantages that i would prefer to use it as well.
*
You can scan duitnow qr to pay with any ewallet app of your choice 🤷

I do see ppl that fed up with eWallet, don’t use eWallet anymore. Personally, I hate using them but I have no choice if they don’t accept CC. Why?
1) unlock phone
2) find the app
3) every app diff layout - find the scan or QR button
4) if no money? Need to reload, extra steps.
5) show QR or scan QR (this one wahhh I see most ppl [certain group of ppl la yeah] DIE DIE want to put QR in the screen’s shown box or DIE DIE wan to twist and turn the QR/phone so it’s “readable”)
6) tap amount in
7) promo code n vouchers
8) pay. Some require pulak pin or bio auth.
9) wait… see ur wifi or data strong or not lo
10) paid or error.

Bloody hell so many steps for 1 payment. Yes, I know we can cut down steps 1-4/5 by opening up the app first but it still takes farking long time to just do 1 simple transaction. Let’s not say AP. Normal CC or DC would only go like this:
1) take card out
2) wave or pin
3) if pin, enter ur pin lo
4) wait…
5) paid or error.

See? So much easier. Now see AP and SP.
1) take phone out
2) biometric or pin
3) wave
4) if more, enter pin on terminal
5) wait
6) paid or error.

Extra 1 step only but there’s higher chance the phone is already in ur hands. Better yet, AW is already on ur wrist.

Will ppl chg habit? Points n rewards chasers wont leave certain eWallets cos they offer better rewards. But mostly, general Apple users are more “savvy” and wanna show “ada gaya” so, yes to ur question and I’ll be one of them.
*
Yes rewards is quite enticing. For grab platinum level i think you can double the rewards point for each ringgit you spend. Rm5 voucher is like 500 points

To my understanding, consumers already know it’s like your bank card, merchants need to know it’s like a bank card, and the banks know the benefits and downsides (similar to Samsung Pay). At this point, I can’t find any logical reason why would BNM reject Apple Pay. It would encourage more spending and economic growth; which is definitely needed now considering the state of our economy.

it's not like people cannot buy anything with credit card without apple pay support in malaysia.
i have both samsung galaxy watch and apple pay via singapore transferwise account and i use like once a month to purchase using samsung pay/apple pay.
most of the time i paid using e-wallet or bank debit card

nah... u are wrong. although the tech is there (NFC), they still need a software to accept the payment type "apple pay".

so just wait and see until they finish the setup their pos counter.  icon_rolleyes.gif

many people successfully paid using apple pay in malaysia including me, no need for the store to upgrade or display apple pay support.

Maxis remove the Apple Pay method on their website btw

I’m on ios16 beta and i do have Singapore card in my wallet. I did notice adidas my app has apple pay option and today when i want to pay for a concert ticket, there’s an option to pay via apple pay as well. Not sure who’s the payment gateway provider for adidas my app and that website though

Or is it a new feature for ios16 whenever you have a valid card in your wallet then the option is enabled by default?🤷🏽‍♀️

I saw many apps on Android now have Google Pay and readily available to be used.

I think malaysia support payment by online google pay for quite sometime. NFC payment that is not supported.
As long as you stored your credit card in google pay/wallet you can just use it like you pay via paypal wherever you have the option

E wallets are still useful to use in stores that don't accept card payments, especially those roadside stalls.

To each of their own I guess, personally would use both e wallets and NFC payments depending on the situation, while NFC payment would be a tad quicker, the difference would just be a slight few seconds.

Most useable use case scenario is pay for parking that accept paywave. At least for me.

Moreover putting Apple Pay in their system doesn’t mean necessarily that apple coming to Malaysia. Maybe they want to make it easy for foreigners to pay since they have Apple Pay in their smartphone      I am not saying  Apple Pay will not come to Malaysia. But what I am trying to say. Is  That This how Apple will consider Shopee , maxis , adidas etc. reactions
*
As long as payment terminal accept paywave you can use apple pay. Don’t have to wait it comes officially to malaysia first. Nothing to do with foreigners

QUOTE(liberty0480 @ Aug 7 2022, 01:57 AM)
Seeing that Apple Pay is very likely to launch soon, I hope that Rapid KL would seriously consider adopting "Open-Loop Payment (OLP)" so that passengers could pay with Credit/Debit cards that they already own.

Understand that Rapid KL might have had a trial back in 2020 (seems to only involve our local debit network scheme, MyDebit), I sincerely hope that they would at least offer support for Visa and Mastercard (V/MC) if they ever adopt OLP as this would ensure that:
1. Apple Pay and other Mobile Wallets (Samsung / Google Wallet) users would be able to pay with their phones.
Note: Yet to see any indication that Apple Pay would launch with support for MyDebit, tho in other countries such as Australia it is possible to use dual-network cards in Apple Pay (Australia: V/MC + eftpos; in Malaysia's case: V/MC + MyDebit; Google: "Use dual-network debit cards with Apple Pay in Australia"). Don't think Samsung Wallet supports MyDebit yet as well.

2. Foreign visitors have an option to not need to go through the hassle to acquire a TnG card upon arriving.
Note: I cannot stress how smooth sailing my experience was getting onto public transport networks in London and Sydney as both transit systems have adopted OLP and would accept any Visa, Mastercard or even AmEx payment cards. Both transit systems still offer the pre-existing Closed-Loop payment scheme in addition to OLP (London: Oyster Card; Sydney: Opal Card) and passengers have the benefit of added options (my experience in Sydney: 50/50 between OLP and Opal with the younger generation preferring the former). Despite using OLP, I still get similar or exact benefits as I would be getting with Oyster/Opal cards (daily and weekly fare caps).

Based on an article I found online (Google: "Visa Reports 50 Open-Loop Launches and Strong Growth in Transactions for First Half of Fiscal Year"), 50 new OLP launches were recorded in the year ending Q1 2022 and in total >500 travel agencies currently supports Visa as a payment method. This shows that OLP is one of the key trends in public transport going into the future. A quick search seems to indicate that Rapid KL has adopted Vix Technology's fare collection system. Vix has the capability to deploy OLP given that they have deployed several elsewhere.

Some examples of OLP adoption within the transit systems (based on secondary research; just Google: "Open-Loop Transit [city name]"):
1. Singapore
2. Bangkok (potentially still in trial)
3. Hong Kong (thousands of busses; Octopus Card (HK's TnG equivalent) could be added to AP)
4. London
5. Sydney
6. New York
7. Vancouver
8. Portland
9. Brussels
10. Stockholm
11. Multiple French cities
12. Venice (Considering)
13. Barcelona (Considering)

Maybe Xavier Naxa would be interested in launching a petition on this to hopefully convince Rapid KL that there is a demand for OLP and (in relevance to this thread) so that Apple Pay users would be able to maximise this highly likely soon-to-launch feature?

Previously used Samsung Pay, therefore I am looking forward for Apple Pay. Since it is much more convenient to use compared to eWallets, plus eWallets don’t really give me any benefits at all.
*
Quite a few benefits using ewallet such as collect points with grabpay and sometimes you get cash rebates using maybank qae. I used to get rm50 rewards payed using mae 😁🤷🏽‍♀️

Why bother with Apple Pay?

Getting better cashback from various other sources.

True as well but in some scenarios samsung/apple can be a convenience as well. I will use both ewallet and apple pay based on situations

Same argument can be said about the "various other sources". There are tons of physical cards that are better than what eWallets/various other sources are offering.

Why bother with a lot of apps that you need to install on your devices when you can just use one?  smile.gif

Some people can't be bothered with these cashback stuff, with their rules and regulations, and want to keep things minimal.

Ewallets nowadays are pretty much superapp. It is not only for payment so you probably have at least touch n go or grab app in your phone anyway. 🤷🏽‍♀️
