In the meantime of counting down Apple Pay launching
Let's start for some fun discussion tongue.gif

Assume your common use bank card is able to add to Apple Pay
Are you going not to bring that card when going out?

In an extremely case,
Assume all your bank card is able to add to Apple Pay
will you going to put only 2 cards (IC + driving license) in your wallet?
Putting 100% truth on Apple Pay
*
I will still bring it out as I still need to show the card to enter the Plaza Premium Lounges

i hate some merchant will need to store ur cc info when request for paywave =.=
They said boss bagitau mau key into system.

Then i dun have physical card with me (paying using samsung pay)
*
yeah because their merchant card terminal isn't connected to their Point of Sales (POS) system and the card number is needed to reconcile the accounts at the end of day or end of week or end of month.

How does credit card benefit work with AP? If I add let's say card that have dining cashback. Does using it with AP still eligble for that? The transaction show AP deduct or directly merchant (the dinning place)?
*
Depends on the policy of the restaurant, some want to see it physically but usually when its paid through their POS system.

Why bother with Apple Pay?

Getting better cashback from various other sources.

Lots of credit card cashbacks and for me, definitely airmiles!

What is the benefit of using Applepay? Is it just same as DuitNow or Boost?
*
For some folks, it is the ability to pay using the NFC method without needing to bring your credit card with you. To some, especially if they have the Apple Watch cellular version, when running or out exercising and they don't have their phones, they can make payment with the watch. For others, it is all about being able to also use it overseas without carrying your physical cards as well.

Card issuer or Apple are not the one that sets the rates. The POS terminal operator, in this case, Public Bank, does. Once Public Bank sees Visa, 2.5% fee will be charged per transaction.
*
That is ridiculously high for a Merchant MDR rate when other banks are charging at least 1.2% onwards for VISA/Mastercard. Heck, large chains are negotiating for a 1% MDR rate with the banks as eWallets are charging around 1%

QUOTE(asellus @ Aug 9 2022, 09:19 AM)
The discrepancies between Visa+Mastercard and MyDebit is what can make Apple Pay potentially unpalatable for small merchants, even if the Mastercard or Visa fees is 1.5% for outlets like 99 Speedmart. Small mom-and-pop stores that got charged 2.5% will definitely become more vigilant towards people who wants to pay using phones now.
*
Apple doesn't charge the merchant MDR fees to the shops. The merchant teams in the bank, either direct or they work with a reseller (think GHL, Harvest, etc..) they are the ones who set the fees for all the merchants, whether it is a large chain or a small mom and pop shop. I have gone through that process personally (when I ran a restaurant) and also from the bank side (when I was working at the bank). The bank will always set the fee. Of course these days, iPay88, GHL and all started offering their POS machine and with it their own fee MDR structure.

In terms of rates, here is the charges range from cheapest to highest

MyDebit (less than 1%) < eWallets (~1%) < Visa/Mastercard (~1-1.5%) < Amex (~1.3 to 1.8%)

Anything more than those rates, means there is a reseller who is going in with an additional cut.

Mind you, the rates above are on average what banks might charge to the customer. Not the network fees which are much lower.

p.s. I can't remember Unionbank rates or WeChatPay rates.

Public Bank terminals are done with a reseller whose name already escapes me. That maybe why the rates for credit cards are high. As for e-wallet, nowadays. if you tell Public Bank that you want to accept Boost or TnG et.al the officers will simply ask you to open a Duitnow QR merchant account where the fee is 0% until further notice.
*
Yes, Paynet is pushing for the DuitNow QR merchant where smaller merchants don't need to submit SSM documents, just even a simple license from the local municipal is enough to apply for it. Smaller merchants love it as they get the cash directly instead of a T+x amount of days.
