Yesssssss that would be great. I'm just a beginner in Japanese, but I have no issue with simple words (my assumption is that non-tourist places usually mean menu and ordering mostly in Japanese haha).

Oh yeah, have you been to Ise? Isejima? Its one place in my bucket list.

Hi guys,

I just came back from my Japan trip yesterday. As i had received a lot of help from this forum, i will be giving my feedback to whoever that asks for it as well. How is the weather in Tokyo now? Temperature of day and night? Just wear a t-shirt inside and windbreaker jacket outside sufficient? Has the sakura blossommed by the time you left Tokyo?
*
A friend of mine is still in Tokyo and I've been getting updates from him. Just to share, its windy and cooling. Temp range between 12-15 degrees in the morning and evening/ night will be easily below 10. Sometimes its around 5 degrees or so. Its cold when there's wind blowing.

My friend wore 3 layers: heat tec + long sleeve + medium thick jacket on the outside. Even so, when the wind blows... lol.gif

Sakura has just started blooming. Places famous for Sakura viewing such as Ueno Park (that he visited yesterday) is very scattered. Few trees here and there bloomed, but a lot are still bare, or just starting.

Great to know about this info.  Seems like me arriving 9th of april at Tokyo might still be able to catch sakura at full bloom.  Also i may have underestimated the tokyo cold weather.  I was really thinking just a t shirt with windbreaker.  Might have to pack another layer if standing out in the night at open space to view sakura.
*
Oh dear... its better to be over prepared than under prepared. Strongly recommend getting a pair of heat tech, it really helps. I could go around with heat tech + a thick hoodie sometimes (back in autumn) because I love the cold. But i'll suffer when strong wind blows, or when it rains or rained hahaha because then it gets super cold.

My friends doubted me a little when I asked them to pack more, but in the end were glad they did so because it does get really chilly when the sun's out of the way thumbup.gif

let me tell u a secret...
jus use Disposable Heat Pack
more practical

*
Yes its nice to have heat pack, but at least need to prepare 1 medium thick jacket. Heat tech is so thin, it barely takes up any space hmm.gif

One of the friend whom I traveled together with, he bought the heat pack but still needed to wear his jacket. Perhaps cold tolerance is individual, but it won't hurt to bring at least 1 jacket to be safe.

Yes, its slightly cheaper in Japan.

Lucky I check again today before my flight this Sunday  laugh.gif

Don't worry, can always buy there smile.gif but if you already have it in your wardrobe, might as well bring it. And getting heat tech is a reasonable investment. It was really comfy.

QUOTE(huaweie5830 @ Apr 1 2017, 10:31 AM)
yeah going japan tmr night so nervous now

Bringing mostly tshirt and jeans, plus one wind breaker and one sweater

Like u all mention if it is so cold, but I still plan to buy there incase I can't take the cold

But my parents did bring the heattech
*
Feeling excited for you!! If you don't have a heat tech, and feeling the need to get one - can always grab one in Tokyo. You can find it in Uniqlo. Apart from Ginza, there's also a Uniqlo in Nakano, though smaller scale than Ginza's outlet.

Good to hear your parents have them. And get them heat packs from convenience stores to keep their hands warm.

See whether you need gloves. If yes, buy them at Daiso! Only 100yen for a pair, really cheap. You can even choose the ones where the glove tips are touch screen enabled, meaning you can use your smartphone without taking off your gloves. I've only visited the Daiso in Harajuku so if you're keen to drop by, check out if there's anywhere else that has Daiso.

MY basic itinerary for Tokyo.

Basically this trip is all about food and sightseeing, minimum shopping.

Day 1
- Arrive at Heneda Airport at 10.35pm.
- Check in Airbnb at Shinjuku
- Find Ramen for supper

Day 2
- Shibuya
- Harajuku

Day 3
- Asakusa
- Sumida
- Ueno
- Akihabara

day 4
- Tokyo Station
- Ginza
- Shimbashi

Day 5
- Tokyo Disneysea

Day 6
- Tsukiji
- Odaiba

Day 7
- Take tour bus to Mt Fuji

Day 8
- Back home.
*
Tour bus to Mt. Fuji? You mean follow tour? Him actually you can do the Hakone on your own, without paying for tour. Just get the tickets from Odakyu in Shinjuku station, and opt for Romancecar (top up 890yen for adult) to save travelling time. It's comfortable and only take 1.5hours from Shinjuku.

Optionally is to checkout for buses that goes to Hakone.

Hmmmm a DIY trip will cost approximately RM200+

QUOTE(Grimtooth @ Apr 1 2017, 09:58 PM)
Well.. I'm bringing heattech, heat packs(hand and sweater) and the ultra light down jacket.
Maybe i'll get a convertible collar coat when i get there if still too cold. But will prolly cost about RM400.

ehhh i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.
*
Sounds like you're good to go biggrin.gif enjoy your trip and agree on the coat. If you're resistant to cold, perhaps may not need it. Have a smooth trip!

Nikko is an amazing place, because it was raining the whole day for my first day there, i had to change mt itinerary to do the historical walking self-guided tour going through all the shrines. The shrines ranges from huge and grand (Toshogu) to secluded and just a small shack, but it is still interesting to walk through all of them. As for my trip to Chuzenjiko, Kegon falls and Ryuzu falls, it was snowing when i was there, so i couldn't get onto the ropeway for the best view of the area, however, Kegon falls is still amazing to look at, if possible, pay the extra fee to take the elevator to the viewing platform and have a closer look at it. Ryuzu falls however is a big contrast to Kegon. It's a much smaller fall, however, it has it's own elegance to it, you won't be able to appreciate it unless you take a time to view it. They all can be reached relatively easy if you have the All Nikko Pass.

Kamakura was more commercialised that i thought. I'd watched a lot of blog posts and youtube videos before i went but it turned out to be more touristy than i expected. However, if you'd never been there, it's still an interesting place. There are a lot of shrines in the area, but if you're in a hurry, i'll recommend to visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (being the biggest in the area) and Hokoku-ji temple. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu requires further fee to visit the treasure room and Hokoku-ji temple also requires a small fee to visit the bamboo garden. I will recommend to take the Odakyu Kamakura-Enoshima pass.

As for J-world, we didn't pay to play all of the games and attractions inside, so it's only 800 yen for the entrance, if you like the anime released by Jump, you'll be able to enjoy an easy 2 hours just going from room to room for the theme they prepared for their major anime (One piece, dragon ball, naruto, Haikyuu and Kuroko).
*
Thanks for sharing, will make a note on these landmarks. I haven't really research the details yet because my trip has been delayed till May next year (sigh) but its still good info.

I like JUMP! but mostly One Piece. I'll make time for Haikyuu some day HAHAHAHA just afraid that this is gonna bore my non-anime friends, unless there are interesting rides/ stuff to see even for non-fans. Just like Ghibli - its so interesting and interactive that non fans were impressed by the way things can be "played" or viewed.

I brought the gloves from Daiso to my trip there, it was kinda useless though  cry.gif Maybe my tolerance is low, i can't feel my hands most of the time even with the Daiso gloves on. Haha...some thin leather gloves might be better though.
*
Bahahahahaha yes because there are "holes" in the gloves. Get the leather ones, they are a lot better biggrin.gif there were leather gloves in Nagoya's Daiso. Don't recall whether I saw the same in Tokyo (my travelling time was just 3 weeks apart).

QUOTE(lchee @ Apr 3 2017, 10:08 AM)
you guys are making me feel i underestimate the cold climate there.  I am planning to wear a t-shirt, a fleece jacket and a windbreaker (total 3 layers) while standing outside tsukiji market to queue from 1am to 3am to get the jacket to go see the tuna and salmon auction.  I do have gloves ready as well.  No scarf or cap though.
*
Hmmmm do you have anything thicker? 1-3am is middle of the night, its gonna be chilly. Not so sure about windbreaker coz feel like they aren't all that resistant to cold hmm.gif

hehe, Nikko is a not a place you want to plow through, you'll want to take the time to go through each attraction. It's a place to give you a tranquil and peaceful feeling. You won't want to ruin it by rushing through the attractions. Hehe.

J-world is strictly for anime fans though. IMO at least. If your friends aren't interested in any of the anime it features, they will be very disappointed.  rclxub.gif  It'll be better for them to just have a walk in Sunshine city while you go to J-world.  biggrin.gif . Since you liked One Piece, you must make a trip to One Piece Tower. The opening scene at the 360 degrees theatre (5-10 minutes) will blow you away. Hehe. This attraction isn't permanent. Better make a trip for it while you still can.  biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, the plan is to stay 1 night in Nikko because seems like a lot to do there. I don't think 1 day could cover all biggrin.gif but Kamakura will likely be just a day trip. It was also recommended by my company's Japanese counterpart, so I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm not worried about things being commercialized hahahaha its popular for a good reason imo smile.gif i'll experience it then see how.

Anyone knows what area of air bnb room should i look for that is walking distance to tsukiji market?  I better rent a place that is walking distance to the place in case it gets too clod.
*
Good idea because there may be no train that operate in that hour. You can check out airBnB rooms nearby Tsukiji.
Just type Tsukiji and you'll find all sorts of options: https://www.airbnb.com/s/Tsukiji--Chuo--Tok...&s_tag=LYGitqDe

You can even message/ text the owner to verify that its walking distance to the Tsukiji market.

In tokyo station. Ow.. Figuring what to do for the next 3.5hrs to check in hotel. Any suggestion on good food here? I already bought shinkansen ticket and metro ticket. Do i need suica? No right?
Also weather is awesome here. Didnt need heatpack.... For me at least. I prolly took the same flight as the guy who post earlier.
*
There's a lot to do in Tokyo Station. Get to the Basement, there's a lot of shops. There's a popular ramen there i think.

And by the way, in case you're done with Tokyo Station, you can always walk to Imperial Palace. Its within walking distance. However, if you prefer to just relax, drop by Dean and Deluca nearby Tokyo Station (its outside the station, Google Map it) and have your lunch/ chillax there.

You already have the shinkansen ticket, its for you to travel from Tokyo to Osaka/ Kyoto. But when you're in Osaka/ Kyoto (if you're going there), you'll need the JR pass (SUICA) since PASMO can only be used in Tokyo's Metro Line.

There's never "too much time" in Tokyo Station HAHAHA each and every time I have to be dragged away by friends. I could spend 1-2 hours in JUMP! shop itself <33333 and _ChAoS_ on the J-World, i've been to One Piece tower but what??? a 360 show??? I didn't see that!

I personnally think that heat tech is too much

Now afternoon time not really cold at all, and inside restaurant is even hotter when they did not on the A/C

Now eating this famous crab at their Shinjuku main shop
*
It really depends. When you're under the sun, its hot. Or when you're inside the shop, it could get pretty warm. But once outside, its really cold. Depends on one's tolerant. Optionally, can always plan when you'll wear it. If most of the activities is indoor, the heat tech may not be needed.

It's at the entrance just right before the dining table where the characters will sing a song for the main theme. You must've seen it already.. thumbup.gif The jump shop was much smaller than i thought though. I couldn't find what i wanted.  sad.gif  Maybe because i went to the Jump store in Solamachi in the morning just before i went to the one in Tokyo Station in the afternoon.. sweat.gif
*
LIVE?? Seriously?? I went in for the performance - the Tongari island one - but not the live characters singing! Oh gosh! Maybe there's a specific time sad.gif

Eh waitttt there's a JUMP! in Solamachi?! I didn't even realize that shakehead.gif I always hop in the Ghibli store in Solamachi, and the LG where there's loads of souvenirs and food. Yeah the JUMP! in Tokyo Station is small but for me, that's like better than nothing hahaha. Akiba is too huge and too many options, it wasn't easy to find what I want. In fact, I actually found a lot of "treasures" in Nakano Broadway.

I spent most of my time outdoors (especially when visiting the outskirts area), so i guess that's why i needed it, it was very windy last week as well. But i do agree that the indoor is very warm. Everytime i step inside a building, i will have to take the gloves, the mask, the scarf and unzip my jacket instantly.
I'm very curious about it, i never got to have it.  drool.gif

True that! Its warm and sometimes hot inside shops. That's why majority of the restaurants have coat hangers for their guests.

On day 1, hopefully the ramen shop is still open when I arrived around 11.30pm.

Or else maybe just find a 7-11 store and settle our supper for the night.

Just so you know that Ichiran Ramen is open 24/7 in Shinjuku's branch thumbsup.gif

Here's most (if not all) the info you need if you're considering the train such as Romance car: http://www.odakyu.jp/english/deels/freepass/hakone/

I doubt it's inclusive of luggage though, if inclusive, it's pretty cheap. But you'll still be suffering for 7 hours unless you purchase meals, the internet and also movies too.. brows.gif  by that time, it should be close to JAL flight already.. which is 1.2k per person btw.. haha
*
A friend bought it before - RM800+ inclusive of all (except meal). Meal you can bring some bread or sandwiches on board. I doubt AA attendants will throw you off board for having bread hahahahaa. As for entertainment - bring a book or load some videos/ movie on phone before flying. Even so, I find music + reading is the best combination.

But yes, if additional RM300-RM400 can provide comfort, why not smile.gif i personally prefer JAL too. But for some, RM400 = 10,000yen. That could be 2 days' expenses in Japan hehe
