Newbie here, when buy amulet should we go for new amulet or old amulet for wearing. Got different? Thank you

New or old it doesn't really matter unless you're a collector/enthusiast, what's the most important thing is that its properly blessed and its authentic. smile.gif

Hi to all thai amulet enthusiast and sifu,

I have been given an amulet few years back and have been told it is a phra chinnaraj. it is a buddha image in the subduing mara pose. Anyone have any info on this piece? i noticed that the buddha image in the subduing mara pose is not exclusive to phra chinnaraj as i think phra nang phaya amulet is also depicting similar pose. thus is this a phra chinnaraj? the lack of the 2 dragon arch which is typical of phra chinnaraj, makes me wander. any info greatly appreciated. many thanks

I think gold shop does that. Alternate way is bring to some amulet shop, some of them does help you to send to thai for gold wrap.

To all sifu and amulet expert out there, how to differentiate real and fake amulet? As far as I know, if get it from famous Wat ( Thai temple ) sure it's original as Wat don't sell fake ones.
*
Marking , material and mould. Getting from wat own amulet counter will be fine. You need to know its 3rd party counter or temple counter because some wat do rent out the space for 3rd party selling amulet.

Any amulet which go thru proper consecration from monk is good regardless it is old or new.

Just to keep update this tread - got my amulets during recent visit to Mongkol temple in Hua Hin - got a takrut and Luang phor thuad amulet for Rm50 after convert and also got a hanger for in-car protection on the road, hang it on rear view mirror - Am really happy to get my amulets at the temple and I hardly buy anything else

Just curious to know how do u usually get amulets from temple. I mean u visit temple, donate and the monk will give u?
I would also like to get amulet directly from temple but there's a chinese saying 可遇不可求 'get it by coincident (fate), not obtain by choice'.
Any good temple in Hatyai or Bangkok to donate and get amulet?

sometimes dont think too much la, just let it flow bro.
just go to temple and normally inside temple got the amulet shop (either own my temple itself or own by 3rd party)
just saw the amulet u like, buy it / or we call rent it then can give to the temple monk for re-blessing, normally is foc but u can make some donation la to help the temple.

normally donate then get the free amulet is just so so one,
kecuali u always go make donate, help the temple and the monk know u well so he will give u very special one or if u karma is good enough the monk will give to u the amulet that he wear for year for free.

Yeah, I am never curious to get it for free eventhough I heard about it...sometimes the sifu is familiar with the person because he always go there like yearly and after know each other they may get it free. Actually it is the same, if you buy from the temple, you are contributing to the temple as well, get the one you like and get it blessed by the monk, at least you know its blessed. When you came back Malaysia, you can bring to temple here for blessing...do it yearly and the amulet should protect you

Yeah, am curious too, well I won't mind barang if I don't have children but since I have 2 girls, my missus already warning not to rent barang.

Just to share, I travelled to SG quite often last time and I do notice that gumanthong is quite popular amongst southern neighbour..saw quite a few HDB unit with dolls and offerings at the front door, was wondering if anyone knowledgeable can share more

Kumanthong = kids.
So normally we will offering to them what kids like, sweet chocolate, vitagen, some even give then red sirap or or ribena or fanta, some will offer some kids clothes. All up to personal.
About food, more easy is u tell them, i makan apa lu follow me makan apa.
And since kumanthong is considered ghost kids, and kind of lower level, so we cannot put same lvl with Buddha, Deity or monk, must put slightly lower.
Hope this information will clear the mist out.

Almost all temple have their own amulet counter in thailand. Its usually for the temple for fundraising. If you have some luang phor that you know then you can visit their temple and get the amulet.
If you do not have any experience on thai amulet i suggest you start renting new temple amulet and slowly gain experience before jumping into older and higher priced amulet because there are tons of fake in the market.
For me older amulet is for collection purpose and for daily wear any amulets with proper consecration are equally good.

Personally, collecting amulet is a hobby for me since very young, around 6-7 years old, I already looking at amulet. I am 43 now...to me, its something noble, that you carry god close to your heart by wearing amulet, while renting it also generate income for the temple and plus its a hobby that keeps reminding us the right path..its a good hobby that is not too expensive, it can be expensive if you go deeper, but keep it level headed and you'd be fine. Just hope the younger generation will keep it going...looking at the different designs and materials plus the history, amulet is one of best hobby I can think of, at least compare to toys or action figures, no disrespect to other hobbies, I guess I see more in amulet than other collectibles...hey I could be wrong because some toys can really generate high value after market demand, but intrinsically, a toy or figure is just a model, amulet contains more meaning and has certain element of mythic that I find more mysterious and interesting element.
