ATI's R600 is on track for Q1 launch

AMD AND ATI made a commitment and said to the world+dog that it plans to have R600 launched in Q1. It repeated these words just recently in front of so many faces.

We can confirm one more time that the R600 will be built on an 80 nanometre process and that it supports shader model 4.0 also known as the Unified Shader model. This means that the card is fully DirectX 10 compatible. ATI is happy to say that XboX 360 is its first Unifed Shader product and R600 is second generation. This is supposed to imply that R600 might learn the Unified Shader lesson better than Nvidia. But Nvidia's G80 still did the job first months before R600.

The chip supports HDCP and HDMI if you want, and is optimised for High Definition playback. The chip will decode Blu-ray or HD DVD. It doesn't care about the media, a lot like the INQ.

Of course, the card supports Crossfire and as far as we know we are talking about cable less Crossfire. This is the first high end chip to support no external cable Crossfire and AMD is so clappy happy about it. Maybe Nvidia will now stop calling it MissFire.

Chip production is scheduled for February 2007 and we can confirmed that the final chips are about to see the face. Beta cards were wandering around the selected developers but those were DDR 3 while the final stuff has DDR4. Final launch with availability is March, I am convinced. µ

i never use ati since their 9XXX series

i use now 7300gt and conside wan to upgrade to mid range dx10 later

if 8800gtx price can drop to rm1800 then i will forget the R600

There will probably be no drastic drops in price unless the R600 destroys the G80.

I mean an example of how does the R600 looks like?

You won't see any real leaks until the journalists get their review samples. In any case, the card is shorter than G80.

Yes, to my best knowledge it is shorter than G80. Around the size of the X1950. Or maybe a little shorter.

well i alwiz think it's not fair to compare this card with a card that already released 7 months ago..

so r600 is not comparable with G80 ! it is normal new product to be better than the older one. and same with this case..

it will be very stupid if ATi & AMD released a card that beat G80 by only small margin.. esp after they took around 7 months to produce it

If that's the true R600 card, man, that's longer than the G80.

If this is real, i don't think it can fit my Aurora 570, it's too long...

Look carefully. Assuming that picture is legit, the card itself is still not very long. The heatsink fan extends past the card. It will not be a problem to create a card with a shorter heatsink. There are reasons for having certain versions with the fan extending past the card, as well as the "open/close" thing on the fan that some picture showed. Hint: think crossfire
