hi
this is my story and i'd like you all to share your opinions on this

i just bought the inspiron 6400 from this seller today, we COD at lowyat plaza.
i think him being late is forgivable given traffic conditions in KL..
however..
once i've checked the computer,i've discovered that the keyboard is faulty. or to be exact, the spacebar is faulty. i need to press harder in order to key in a space. seller said this is not a problem as the unit is still under warranty. so i accepted his reasons. he promised me that he will help me call dell support and ask them to visit me to replace the keyboard for free. i trusted him as well, as he said he was from sarawak too.

then after i brought the laptop back and trying around it's features, i shockingly discovered that the dvd-writer is not even recognized by the bios!!
the drive is there, it ejects, but it is not recognized by the system. bios says nothing is installed in the modular bay, and therefore windows dont even know it's there.. can anyone tell me what's the problem with this? seller should have notified potential buyers in the forum. even if he's selling for a friend, he should test it out right?

this is really a big defect on a laptop.. what's a laptop that doesnt have a working optical drive?? i am hoping that dell will repair it fast and free as there's still 102 days left for the warranty. however i'm worried that it might be void already as from what i see from the website, the original configuration is different from what i received from the seller. and the current windows installed is XP Pro whereas this laptop is supposed to be installed with XP HOME. i really do hope DELL will fix this. or else i'll have to ask for a full refund as i'm just a student looking for a decent laptop for reports and research.

please post your thoughts..

oh and i have smsed the seller a few times after buying but till now no reply yet. sigh.. first major buy from lowyat forum.. not a good impression..not good at all..

added : another thing, i discovered that sometimes the dvd drive will not eject at all. as if there is no power. this occured during testing but i assumed it was due to low battery power at the time.

yes , of course . Dell will allow u to extend the warranty .

But pls double check the ori spec again to make sure the ori processor is T2300 or T2400 .

bcoz tis will affect u on claiming warranty on future...

Well, I hope you learned your lesson. Never trust these kind of people! shakehead.gif
Buy directly from Dell, you fork out a large sum of money for your laptop and it's really not worth it if the quality is compromised. Now things start to become more complicated rclxub.gif I really hope Dell will repair your laptop. nod.gif
Good luck to you.

yes
discovered it was faulty during COD but then seller said can claim warranty so i trusted him...

Added on January 31, 2007, 1:18 amUPDATE :
dell called me this morning, and he told me that since i'm not the original owner of this unit, i cannot claim warranty as opposed to what the seller told me. He adviced me to ask the original owner to verify this sale by calling them but then after sms-ing the seller a few times still he no reply one.. argh..

If you have a complete cover warranty, don't worry too much.
Dell would replace every faulty hardware.
