iPhone user since 2010 here... I've been thinking of upgrading to iPhone 7 but Google Pixel launched today and seems very interesting... here are the things better than iPhone 7

camera is rated better than all existing smartphones (good for camera lovers)
unlimited cloud storage for photos and videos (this is really good)
15 minute charge for 5 hours use (this is good too)

However, I really like iOS and don't like how Android operates...

Do you think iOS is the reason good enough to stay with iPhone?
*
I do follow the launching news too.

If i were choosing an android phone, i prefer S7 Edge in term of Design as the Google Pixels design is hmmmm....
For camera wise, the rate is higher 3 points if not mistaken comparing to the iPhone 7.
But do not forget iPhone 7 Plus could have the DSLR blur effect in next OS update.

Of course, OS is the most important thing. But if you don't mind which OS to go, then we would like to analyse few other factors.
as you said,

a) Camera: I dont think people buy a phone just purely for the camera especially when you comparing the camera to iPhone (at least not me)

b) unlimited cloud storage, this is a good one especially you can upload the full resolution.

c) fast charging, its depends, of course its the adding point if anyone device has it.

for the other factors,

I would like to talk about the pricing.

The price is "almost" identical to iPhone 7, this pull off some of the peoples, as people will claim that they can just get Huawei, Oppo or whatever which is cheaper 50% blink.gif

*not to forget, they mention in the presentation, the latest software update will only support for 2 years

The way I see it, iOS either works for you or drives you nuts biggrin.gif But I think you'll know this better than me coz you've been an iPhone user for longer than I have been. While I can't say whether iOS is good enough a reason for you to stay with iPhones, for me personally, Google Pixel is not a compelling reason enough to migrate over to Android, especially if you have a catalogue of paid apps in iOS since 2010!

In terms of hardware, any Android flagship will outdo the latest iPhones. That's no secret to anyone. I find it absolutely hilarious when some companies put their phone specs next to the iPhone during their launch presentation. Yes, you may have 6GB RAM, a higher resolution display, a bigger capacity battery, a higher pixel count camera, etc. but at the end of the day, those who are comfortable with iOS will stick to iPhones.

just curious if anyone knows if there is an option for installment plan with 0% interest rate during maxis pre-order on the 7th? or its only available over the counter during official launch?
*
From previous experience with maxis, 0% installment is only available over the counter.

Yea, this is what I thought too... because all the hardware are actually there to serve the purpose of the OS.

The problem with price for Android flagships is that it drops pretty quickly which is why I'm reluctant to buy any of them during launch. I bought a brand new Note 5 two or three months ago at RM1,800 from our Garage Sale, my sis bought a brand new S7E at RM2,499 about two months ago as well, and I bought a brand new Mate 8 (3GB/32GB) from Lazada just last week at RM1,407. All new in box with local warranty.

Google Pixel? Hmm.. maybe next year biggrin.gif

The only way to get unlocked iPhones is to buy full price at official Apple Online/Retail Store. All unlocked iPhones can now be used anywhere in the world, regardless of supported bands.

Also, to people who are buying from China or Hong Kong: Be warned that the model number for sale in Malaysia (A1778/A1784) is different from the iPhones sold there. Same goes for Japan or US iPhones too (unless you go with AT&T or T-Mobile).

However, in most cases you can't submit them for warranty claim at Malaysian AASPs. You definitely won't get support for those other models here in Malaysia, since AASPs are only allowed to order replacement devices with model numbers sold locally. For those models, you will have to go Singapore cuz only Apple Asia HQ can override that policy.

Now you must consider pros and cons, here's a handy chart (with explanation below):
ModelSold inAASP supportNetwork supportFeliCa support
A1660/A1661HK/US/ZHNoCDMA^, GSM*No
A1778/A1784MY/SG/WWYesGSMNo
A1779/A1785JPNoGSM, CDMAYes

^ A1660/A1661 (CDMA) [Sold in US]:  Not supported locally, but has more network bands. Can be used on CDMA carriers like Verizon or Sprint. Can't support FeliCa.

* A1660/A1661 (GSM) [Sold in HK/ZH]:  Not supported locally, but has more network bands. Can't be used on CDMA carriers like Sprint in US or SoftBank in Japan. Can't support FeliCa.

A1778/1784 [Sold in AU/MY/SG/worldwide]:  Supported by local AASPs, but has less network bands. Can't be used on CDMA carriers like Verizon in US or SoftBank in Japan. Can't support FeliCa.

A1779/1785 [Sold only in JP]:  Not supported locally, can be used with CDMA carriers like SoftBank in Japan, can't turn off camera shutter sound, but supports FeliCa (which is Japan's version Touch N Go. It's literally everywhere there) so you can use e-money cards like Suica with Apple Pay.

Bro, noob in iphone here.
Just one question, in your chart for phone sold in HK it's CDMA , GSM. Does it mean only one of the supported network but not both ? If so, any iphone which can support both CDMA & GSM ?

it support both GSM/CDMA therefore any model can be used in Malaysia since all model support GSM.u only lacking the AASP except for local set.

yup, in terms of hardware, any android flagship totally outperform iPhone
but do note that Android got a lot flagship, such as Google, HTC, Samsung, Sony, etc ...
yet, once release new firmware, only Google devices will get on the spot, other brand need to wait for few months
as somebody said just now, Android official software support is 2 year, meanwhile iOS at least 3 years
but IMO Google this time really do a good move, at least they build a phone inside and outside by them (actually is HTC help them) laugh.gif
and bear in mind Android phone price will drop due to too many competitors, unlike iPhone

anyway, both Android and iOS have their pros and cons, I love the camera on Google Pixel, but I think iPhone 7 camera is more than enough for me
but iPhone 7 come with water and dust resistant icon_idea.gif
as for unlimited cloud storage in order to backup photo and video, yea this is an attracting point to those who love to take photo and video, hope Apple will follow as well which give user more iCloud storage

You will only need CDMA if you are planning to visit the US and the place only has coverage by Verizon (or Sprint, but that's pretty unlikely. Sprint sucks). Other than that, not worth losing local AASP support in my opinion.
