R8 V10 - 5.0 liter Roadtax alone is RM 11,130.00 GTR R35 - 3.8 liter Roadtax alone is RM 5,730.00 Not yet being bombard with 0% NCD of the Insurance; R8 V10 - Insured value of RM1,200,000 is RM 31,675.30 GTR R35 - Insured value of RM700,000 is RM 18,578.30 So which one do you choose? source : http://www.oto.my/ |

GTR is the poor man's toys while the R8 V10 is for those rich enough yet not sure how to drive.
In a pure track point of view, will rather get a Viper ACR or Corvette Z06 (or Z07) Perhaps, Porsche 911 GT3 RS is best middle ground? |

If want to get more suitable supercar for daily, get one of those super sedans like AMG S63/E63/C63/CLA45, or BMW M5/M3 or the likes. You'll get practicality of a sedan coupled with performance level of a supercar.

Heart says GT-R, but brain says Audi. Too worried about DSG issues on the GT-R... yes, they claim to have fixed the issues, but I don't want a car that doesn't let me drive fast because the gearbox overheats... that forces me to go to the SC every time I drive fast, or use the launch control for like 3 times. That's just silly. And there have been too many broken GT-R gearboxes, despite those idiotic things like 3 launches, then go SC to replace the gearbox oil (which a) doesn't come cheap, and b) not every Nissan SC can do).
Basically Nissan knows their gearbox is unreliable and sensitive as hell, but they sell the car regardless. Shame on them. This post has been edited by kadajawi: Nov 6 2016, 07:48 PM |

Heh, traffic light and straight highway warriors. GTR is just a way for Nissan to make money, selling gearbox. Folks at gtrlife were screaming at Nissan for not even attempting to fix the box. Gimme 22k and you'll have a new box with the same tendency to poop given that you the owner just went over the line. Litchfields is a way to go.Basically Nissan knows their gearbox is unreliable and sensitive as hell, but they sell the car regardless. Shame on them. |

Even if I were not to do those things (and why would I buy a GT-R then?), I don't like the idea of a car with such a big flaw.VW/Audi may be blamed for using gearboxes that are JUST enough to handle the engine, which isn't a particularly good idea. But Nissan using a gearbox that can't handle the engine? That's just insane. |

They, Nissan engineers, didnt expect their customer to be so impulsive when using the car. Though I think I have read maybe once an owner who lost the gearbox despite babying it. Yes it's the biggest flaw but I think the problem is inherent in the first model 2007 and up to 2010. 2011 version has been adapted to better software and parts but still wont gurantee abusive users.VW/Audi may be blamed for using gearboxes that are JUST enough to handle the engine, which isn't a particularly good idea. Nissan should've made the manual version but then would not be as staggeringly quick as it is.

QUOTE(6UE5T @ Nov 7 2016, 03:13 PM) My suspicion is that the lightning quick times of the GT-R are in parts to blame for the reliability issues. They are pushing the gearbox very, very hard during those launch control starts, perhaps other cars with similar power to weight ratio could be as fast, if they were to drop the clutch at such a high rpm. But they try to preserve the clutch, so they don't try to go for the last tenth of a second...Just a hunch. That the engineers didn't expect people to push the car hard... seriously? Is it a spacious car? No. Is it a cheap car? No. Is it a comfortable or luxurious car? No. No, no, and no. The sole purpose of the GT-R is fast lap times/bragging rights/drag races. The first versions of the GTR (pre 2009) was having the launch programmed at 4500 rpm but afterwards they reprogrammed to about 3000 rpm. However they also keep increasing the engine power from around 480 to almost 600hp on the Nismo version.Or the Nissan engineers just screwed up/couldn't be bothered. Who know.
