If I were you, I would pop in 1 x 1GB first, then another 1GB when I have enough money. It's hard for me to earn money so have to spend wise biggrin.gif

I'm using Corsair, no problems but there are people here against Corsair, maybe I'm the lucky one.

I think Kingston RAM prices came down, the 1GB is less than RM350 if not mistaken, while Corsair is still around RM395.

hai,

Does the RAM mention above compatible with Mac Mini ( intel chipset )? Any idea where can i source those RAM?

Thanks. smile.gif

now Im using 1x1GB 667mhz by corsair replace to 256mb x 2 on my Macbook. To tell the truth, using 1 slot show much slower performance than using both of it. Agree?

but using a 512mbx2 u have no choice but to have the max cap of 1024 mb ram

1gb ram can add aditional 1gb ram so it will be faster

Just put in one 1GB and leave the other 256MB there, nothing wrong with it. In total you have 1.25GB which is pretty good!

hahahaa...1 shot 2 gb is really taxing for most ppl. tongue.gif btw , i think like wat civic said just pop 1 gb in 1st together with the stock ram. then later only get the other 1gb .
Currenly with the stock 512 mb , ifeel the speed is still fine if there's no multitasking. if there's really multi tasking, i can really feeel the need for waiting. smile.gif

Will pop in a 1gb by next week . smile.gif

Well, actually, the performance of dual channel will be more significant if you use it in MacBook or MacMini which uses shared graphic. For iMac or MacBook Pro, seriously, no difference.

Yes, if u have 512mb ram only, u can feel the difference of its running in dual channel or single channel..

but if 1GB ram and above, you wont feel much different unless u run heavy applications + multitasking a lot of time.

dual channels works best if both rams are of the same model chips...
similar to dual channel performance ram for PCs bundled together...

but one shot 800 bucks pokai lor.....
i'm usin dell insp 6000 dual channel wif 1Gb + 256Mb....running fine...
u wan faster boot time... use apps to load boot/startup/system files on memory...

even so, wen i upgrade to 2Gb, i'll sell my current 1Gb and get 2 new 1Gb sticks.... definitely minimize compatibility issues....

sayin tht i feel like wanna get a new laptop altogether....heheheheh....

I just upgraded mine to 2GB. No diff compared to my previous setting 2 x 512mb setting, except for the photoshop la.

Ofcourse la...
Imagine a highway that have 5 lanes, but only have 10 cars....(2GB)
Then imagine a highway tat have 2 lanes, and 10 cars (512x2)

Anyway...back to the question...
1GB logically will run slower than 512x2 dual channel......But u can hardly see the difference......
And no matter what, i will advise u to get 1GB instead for 512x2 if u have intention to add until 2GB later time, it will be more benefit....

the extra 256mb does have extra advantage.

since there are only two slots, go for 1gb ram, then next time u can upgrade again if u feel not enough.

hey guys. i just bought a kingston 1GB from lowyat (the shop at the back on IT floor that sells macs). he convinced me to get the KTA RAM for mac which costs RM630.. much more expensive than the normal ram. he said the performance is much better..

I've paid of course but i want to know if it's true or he's just bull shitting me. anyone care to clarify?

You should ask him whether the 1GB KTA is faster compared to 2GB normal RAM, cause at that price you could have bought 2GB.
