I'm currently wanna find budget electric guitar for my bro...
Saw this Ibanez Jumpstart GRX40J sellinng for RM850..
I dont know whether its cheap or expensive.. sweat.gif

Refer here..

My question..

1. Is the guitar suitable for my bro..He is a amateur...
2. Is the guitar sound good..?
3. Is the guitar best bang for buck..?

Any comment for our respected musicians are welcomed...
Really need your advise... laugh.gif

P/s : Anybody from Ipoh who know guitar shop please tell me..

for that price, you can get other better brand new guitars, but you have to sacrifice with a used amp.
i would just avoid the amp for awhile as you can still practice without the amp.

hey i'm from Ipoh too...I don't know all the shops there but I personally think the one behind the old parkson bulding in Ipoh Garden have some interesting gears.

ANyway for RM850 I'll recommend an SX guitar(I prefer tele but it's up to you...) and a microcube(for pracfice). All for RM800 only. And they're pretty sturdy equipments. Sounds good too.

If me, i think I buy sx/squier with rp50 digitech multi effect(cheap).
Use cheap pc speaker at home for practice.

edit: the price for fp50 i think almost the same as ibanez amp in the pack.

1050 and 850 is quite a big difference if you're on a budget......

But if possible..... don't use PC speakers...If played with too much overdrive and distortion, will definitely damage the speakers. I know. I tried when I first had my electric guitar (waaaaaaaaaaaay back when Insomniac was released).

The Ibanez package seems decent enough and it's pretty much alright.... guitar, amp, tuner, picks, gig bag...... pretty much everything you need to get started. See if the shop keeper can throw in a free set of strings to go with it.......

Yes...... you can find SX and a Microcube for about the same price..... but then you have to find everything in a separate shop, haggle for better prices and go through the whole process twice. Of course, with the Ibanez, you don't get multi-fx (unlike the tiny Microcube)..... but that means you can always save up for a Multi-FX pedal later.

Bottomline, if you don't mind shopping around abit, then yes. You can save a few bucks with an SX and Micro-cube combo. If you just aren't really bothered, the Ibanez is quite a safe bet.

Currently he is playing 'kapok' guitar with some cheapo pickup connected to pc speaker with multi-fx from a program..

Yeah..If to much overdrive and distortion, the subwoofer will sometimes produce "cracking" sound...(im using logitech 5.1.)

Is SX guitar better from Ibanez..?
Mind tellling since i also dont know very much bout SX guitars.. notworthy.gif

Wouldn't say better...... around the same quality actually....... but you get more options instead of just that ONE Ibanez guitar.

What kind of music does your Bro plays anyway?

So..... he's a lead guitarist that can play on a Kapok? Respect!

Um yeah...... the Ibanez strat would be fine.... or an SX strat also fine. If you can find a cheap SX Les Paul copy..... that would be good too....

Rm500 would be a little low for a good guitar and an amp.

Seriously........ an average SX guitar would be RM 400..... the Micro Cube.... around RM 400.... then throw in RM50 for cables and stuff like that.

Yup. That's the one. If you can find the Vox DA5 for around that price (I doubt..... but try)..... I would suggest that also..... It's an awesome tiny little amp with alot of bite.

between RM500-RM600 you can get Behringer starter pack... but the guitar is just so-so lah, only suitable for total beginner i guess. but the amp is fine, modelling type amp. not sure what else is included.

serve me well. Don use it for my pc thou, coz have another speaker.

I think its up to your bro what he want best with that budget.
My friend brought that pack model actually, the thing is it so noisy when using
with the amp provided when u not playing, maybe because of two single coil.
Its very noisy.

Whatever it is, for beginners, any Ibanez GRG/GRX will do. If you're an experienced player, avoid the G in front, cause the G stands for GIO Ibanez, which is a lower end range, all GIO series guitars are made in China, but these guitars are good for beginners, as for me, I didn't know about the GIO, I bought a GRG270 and it kinda sux. As for you bro, just grab a Yamaha Pacifica 012 and a Microcube, that would be fine for a beginner.

correction, correction...

You have to buy an ESP (not LTD mind you!), detune 3 steps, just play power chords, record a whole bunch of solos... and get all of them axed during production... cry.gif

...then you can be Kirk Hammett... thumbup.gif

Agreed on the fixed bridge GIO.....
Also agree that a Pacifica is an excellent guitar. Alot of pacifica guitar owners and happy ones at that. If you can find one around 300-400, then go for a pacifica. If not, an SX would suffice.

...Rusty Cooley shreds cleanly with a ridiculous amount of gain... ultra-fast 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 string sweeps (take your pick!), 16th note triplet runs at #&*$^ bpm... rclxub.gif

...but then again, he's Rusty Cooley... notworthy.gif

Like I said earlier, for beginners, Ibanez Gio's with fix bridges or a Yamaha Pacifica 012 is the best for beginners.
