+1 from me too.
I hate going into a sales thread wanting to see if the item is within my budget and it says "PM me".

I see some sellers purposely omitted this displaying price or other particulars so that people will type in "PM me" in the reply to help boost the thread.
We've all these while left the price part OPTIONAL, simply because like it or not you put price or not, the thread will be so-called "BOOSTED" through other means.

In fact you'll probably get even more "BOOST" than not putting it.

We have all sorts of funny people on the forum.

The moment you put a price - it will NEVER be the right price.

You will see response like

"great price, I'm interested - PM me" <=--- so it's same thing whether you put price or not.

The next one will be.

"best price please" <=--- yes, this one is almost guaranteed to happen. What price you put there will almost always be someone posting that.

As if there's not enough.

Supposedly you're selling X good with new unit retailling at RM 700, yours is used so you put RM 600. You will now also come by .........

"your price too high, scammer!"

OK so maybe you're generous and put set it at half, RM 350.

"your price too low, scammer!"

Yes it happens, and it will still happen.

Then there are the other type of replies

"X person sell lower than you", "I got mine from X place at $$$".

-------------

So as you can see, the argument of "boost thread" is actually moot here. biggrin.gif

You must understand that while you guys want convenience as buyer, sellers also put "PM me" because they use it as a means to filter "play play only" type of people, really serious buyers will contact them.

To me, a few clicks doesn't kill me, and it's not like I'm doing it on daily basis. Whether the price is there or not, I will still PM the person on availability of the item.

oh btw this "PM me" thing is a Malaysian bad-habit.

You can see it in classifieds section too.

"Interested parties, please contact Mr Lowyat at 010-1101100" is clearly stated in 1st post but you'll see hordes of people still reply "PM me". biggrin.gif

So not only you have the funny people who bash price (price police) despite having no interest in purchase, you have people who are incapable of understanding instructions. biggrin.gif

Agree!

If LYN really decides to implement this MUST display price rule, then the PM button needs to be much much bigger.
I get newly registered customer sometimes, and there are really no intuitive ways for them to contact me, other than replying in the thread.
Maybe provide sales thread with a big button, CONTACT SELLER. biggrin.gif

You seems to generalizing that all or probably most buyers will type "PM me" in the reply box.
If the seller has clearly stated the price on the first thread, I will be lazy to type "PM me" in order to wait for the seller to PM me the price.
Yes, it will not completely remove all "PM me" replies but surely it will greatly minimise these unnecessary replies.

Displaying price is a global selling protocol. Which ecommerce website that you have visited allow sellers not displaying price?
Even in pasar malam, government force sellers to display price for instance RM10 for 5 apples. However, it's is up to the buyer to request the seller whether can it be sold for RM10 for 6 apples.

You can see most of the members here (admins, mods and members alike) agreed to my suggestion,

Going by the 1st post, you're the one who claims that, hence the BOOST thread part.

*referring to this part.

As for my part, I'm just saying that regardless whether one posts price, all sorts of response will appear.

OK, however note also that this is not an e-commerce website and neither is it a pasar malam.

If you notice, some people put price is "Offer" meaning they don't set the price but open to offer.

I didn't disagree to your suggestion btw. smile.gif Just saying that the argument of "don't put price boost post" is flawed.

Anyway, this is from LYN boss https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1715497

QUOTE(se7en @ Jan 13 2011, 02:30 PM)
Thank you for your suggestion.

Our official stand on this as has been previously decided is all items posted on the sales section have to be priced, either final sale price or minimum offer price.

Products that are not priced (ie PM me for price etc) is not allowed and should be reported to be reviewed by moderators/trade enforcers.

The only exception to this rule will be products that is difficult to price due to uniqueness or special traits, or second hand items which are difficult to price.

While not properly enforced online, the Price Control Act 1946 does apply to online trading.

So do click the REPORT button if you see any without price. biggrin.gif

There's a reason why PRICE is part of the template when one posts something in Garage Sale.

*Yup, I've not been monitoring Trade Zone for so long I actually thought PRICE is optional. My apologies for that.*

I think what would be best is to have a STANDARD format of posting.

Item, Description, Payment Method (COD location if applicable) and Price all has to be stated when posting.

Failure in which would result in auto deletion. Strict enforcement is needed

So reading from the ^ post, we would have to report any threads that didn't state their price?

If the buyer continues to post up a thread without listing the price, give warning once, then ban 3 days

Enforcement will be somewhat difficult due to the sheer amount of threads but no matter, just keep your report coming and we'll do what we can.

probably its best to have another announcement header that all threads need to have a price.
give a grace period of say 2 weeks, before any thread, reported or not, with no price will be closed without notice.
