Are the phones 1st hand? If yes, they're quite a steal, where did u guys buy them?

We bought it from Clareen, Alienfighter COD-ed with her while for my case, Clareen sent it to me by GD Express. She's very reliable and helpful, I've bought two handphones from her so far, K618i and K800i. Reliable seller. thumbup.gif

Yeah, the PV705 bluetooth battery is really lasting, miles better than my old bluetooth headset I bought years back at RM390 mad.gif , the talktime is less than an hour and standby time not more than 2 days. doh.gif

Yeah Alienfighter, I'm having problems with K800i, tried to update the phone's firmware via SEUS but it keeps on saying your phone has the latest software but it seems like you guys can update to the latest firmware. I believe my 3G / GPRS settings are correct, had tried making a video call the other day and downloaded some guys. What could the problem be? Mine is also a Midland set like yours, should I bring it to the service centre to check? hmm.gif

You updated it via the usb cable, errr......... I never tried before, I thought via SEUS was much easier but it doesn't seem to work. Hai ...... doh.gif Of course, the phone can use lah so no complaints.

Wah........ you want DSP technology pulak...... I have a different requirement, I want a bluetooth stereo headset instead of PV 705. Hahaha. tongue.gif I know that's not possible. cry.gif

QUOTE(alienfighter @ Jan 6 2007, 02:54 AM)
i update mine with the usb cable...
the internet connection for the update seem to be ok...
but i think, why bother to new firmware that make ur phone lag??..
just stay with R1ED... and i wish that i can back to that firmware...

the pv705, rite now... last for 9days...
from the day i first charge....
i used it quite regular....
really amazing battery life..
so sad no DSP technology...heheheehe

As long as you're not getting an AP set, there's nothing to worry. The service centre will gladly fix it for you for free during the warranty period with no questions asked. AP sets will be a headache though but as long as you're gentle and don't abuse your hp, you'll be okay with K800i IMHO.

QUOTE(Naka7a @ Jan 6 2007, 04:45 AM)
you are the first person i know who says he wants a k800 because of it's joystick. out of so many people, all of them try to avoid joysticks, saying they tend to spoil after normal wear and tear

Yeah, sending back to the shop to flash is the only option.
Where is your location? If u are at PJ area, SS2 there (the dim sum row) is 2 shops, Eagle something and Alantis is recommanded by me. Reasonable price and good after sales service.
Comfirm 20. When i send new year greetings, i need to do a few times. lol: Unlike nokia

Just 20, ar? That's not a lot sadly. cry.gif I never tried that before, just waiting for CNY to come, I have 900 over free sms from Maxis. sweat.gif It will be a while before I can utilize them fully. Hahaha. doh.gif

Aiyah Bro, your phone was bought on the same day as mine, still spanking new and you have updated it so fast? So far no problems with my phone except for the once in a while, F4 characters will appear in the options. Other than that, no major problems at all. It will be useful if SE lists out the bugs fixed for each firmware like what NVIDIA is doing, then at least, we'll know whether the firmware solves our problem(s) or is it the firmware that we really need to download. cheers.gif

well, the design pushed me away for this one... Its a lil bit longer and squarish compared to other SE phones... But the camera i must say is one of the best out there...
You gain some, you lose some wink.gif
*
Well, for my big hands, this phone fits nicely for me, the screen is bigger and the resolution is a tad better than other models. It's normal for the phone to be longer by a bit because it will be silly to use a smaller screen for a 3G and 3.2 megapixel camera phone, right? The bigger screen is just nice for video calls, have tried making a few video calls and I can say that I was kinda impressed with the video quality, not too shabby in my opinion.

QUOTE(Spencer11 @ Jan 10 2007, 01:48 PM)
Hmm guess there is pros and cons in every phone. Can't be perfect.

Maybe i should borrow one from a friend for a day and see how i like it, lol.
*
It's true but for minor bugs that don't affect the phone's functionality, I can live with that unlike some Nokia models, when they hangs, you need to remove the battery and restart it. Sheeshhh....... doh.gif So far, my K800i didn't hang before, not even once. I'm quite happy with it and battery life is acceptable for this power hungry phone. thumbup.gif

the size is ok... not so big and weight...

i also face the same problem where the phone's shortcut tend to back to normal after i restart the phone... but as mention, after a few time restart the phone... its ok..... now, no more problem....

hang??.. my phone just hang after i flash to new firmware, where the video preview make my phone so lag, n hang sometimes, after it hang.... it will automatic restart the phone.... but after change the view mode to list (not thumbnails)... not everythings just perfect...

i also notice that the new frimware fix the F1XX problem... never seen that things after i flash...
didnt u find the speaker phone just too soft for u to do the video call???..
or u used ur bluetooth headset??
*
Speaker phone soft meh? Maybe for listening to mp3s but during video calls, it's as loud as a walkie talkie, normally you don't whisper if you're using video calls mah, right? Of course, no privacy lah, imagine if you're bathing half way....... yikes..... doh.gif ............ censored ........

Finally got my K800i. Stupid posman sent it so late. Hehe. Royale silver (Midland, RM1770 + 64MB) rclxm9.gif
*
RM1770??? Midland set? Where did you buy it? Expensive lo ........ I can get it at RM1590 (without M2 64mb) for the Casino Royal one (Midland set of course) and for the M2, I can get a M2 512mb at RM130 (from Transcend 2000) so altogether RM1720 only. Still cheaper by RM50 and yeah, still entitled for the free bluetooh headset (promotion extended till end of this month).

Hmm.. So even the silver K800i is entitled to get the free bluetooth? Yay! rclxm9.gif I thought only the normal one could redeem it.. doh.gif

This one betul-betul ketuk you lah but at least you're entitled for the free bluetooth, just get it from the SE service centre, better hurry though. Many people are buying K800i lately, at least 12 of my friends bought a K800i this month alone. I guess it will win the phone of the year award for 2007. rclxms.gif

hai mehh... the free bluetooth promotion is extended?.
that really good deal for those who buy midland set...
go and buy midland set people..!!!!  thumbup.gif
*
The speaker phone is a little soft, suitable when I'm going to sleep, lazy to hold the phone, just switch on the speaker phone tongue.gif In a noisy environment, you'll hardly hear what the person is saying to you. doh.gif Actually, it's a big issue, I like the screen and the keypads, it doesn't feel cheap, very solid feel and the screen is pretty sharp and bright. Reminded me of my first Samsung handphone with a 262K TFT screen. If I'm not mistaken, K800i's screen might be made by Samsung as Sony and Samsung produced various LCDs and TFTs together, sort of like a JV effort in R&D . I won't be surprised if my guess is right.

Well, it might be due to the theme you have selected and not due to the phone as some themes do animate very smoothly. The lagging problem affects other models from other brands too, you can always change to another theme which animates smoothly. thumbup.gif

Are you installing those ahem java games? If you're then I guess you installed those games which are not meant for your K800i because not all java games for SE phones will run on K800i so be careful not to screw up your phone, my friend did, all his java apps and games can't be clicked, had to master reset and format his whole M2, then reinstall everything again from scratch. sweat.gif

P2P areas? Alamak, that's ahem java games like lah .... if you're not downloading them SE, Maxis, DiGi, et sites ......... then definitely ahem ones. I'm not sure about virus in this case because K800i is not a Symbian phone but whether can a virus infect it or not, I'll never know. I never download games from such sites, I'll just choose the ones I like and download it from via 3G / GPRS.

Well, you'll to backup everything if you're going to master reset your phone and the M2 card must be formatted via your pc. That's what my friend did and he installed either the wrong Java games or the games are not meant to run on a K800i. Or third possibility, might be virus but I'll never know. Well for such a phone, I'm not taking any chances, just pay the RM5 bucks and download it from authorized sites for a peace of mind.

There are two choices for master reset, full master reset or partial but for the partial one, no code is needed, I haven't tried a full master reset before so no comments on that. My friend just used the partial master reset.

anyone tried to use the phone as a modem?? was trying that n it doesnt work..
*
Are you 3G surfing via the cable or via bluetooth? I have tried using the cable before, just select USB Modem, install the software and that's all, no firmware upgrade is needed. As for bluetooth, I haven't tried before because my notebook doesn't have bluetooth.

guys...  wonder how's the battery life?

last night i charge it overnight...

then today... i got make bout 2-3 short calls...  a few sms...  take 2 pics.. play 15 minutes game...

now my battery left ...  65% ...
*
Well, when you're talking about short calls, are you referring half an hour per call or just a few minutes per call? Well, for my case, I made a total of 4 calls, a total about 45 mins, played the whole Splinter Cell Double Agent game from the start till the end, battery life is still around 85%. Is your K800i an AP set? Well, nothing wrong with your set actually, just worried those dishonest sellers will switch the ori battery with a fake one, it happened to a few of my friends and AP ori batteries are sold everywhere even at authorized SE showrooms. I asked them why the battery doesn't come with original packing, they lied to me that the original batteries come in loose packing, this and that but I've actually seen BST-33 with the original packing in some SE showrooms. Yeah, right ...... mad.gif

I was wondering how did these AP ori batteries could be sold everywhere when each K800i comes with one battery, they told me the AP batteries, earphones or other accessories are taken from the actual phone, it doesn't make sense so I suspect the poor unsuspecting buyers might have bought an AP set with fake accessories. Even my friend's W810i's earphones were fake, the ones included were the fake RM15 ones that can be found in pasar malam, not the genuine Walkman earphones that came with W series. doh.gif

For those buying AP sets, be extra careful and take note of the accessories included in the package, if they have changed and replaced with fake ones, better don't buy it.

According to my friend from Lam Loong, the Sony 2GB M2 will be out by first quarter of this year, should be around March or April if there are no delays as Sony is also planning to roll out their 8GB MSPD as well. The price of the 2GB M2 is currently unknown yet but it is expected to be around RM450 to RM500 range. If someone starts a bulk sale on this M2, we probably can get it cheaper. Honestly, my 1GB is more than enough since the Java games are pretty small in size and I don't use my hp to listen to mp3s, just used it to play some games, store some pictures taken with the camera, basically, it's more than enough for me. smile.gif

Sounds fishy because the battery life is not that bad as you have mentioned. There's also a thing called refurbished original batteries too. That's what my friend secretly told me. They're original rejects but have been refurbished, by right it's cheaper like Reject Shop products but some dishosnest shops still sell them at RM168, the suggested retail price for BST-33. mad.gif

If I'm not mistaken, fake ones are not out yet as far as I know. Secondly, the personl tell you this is probably blur blur, some people can't even tell me the warranty period of some products when I asked them on the spot. You'll come across such people when you go shopping for your stuff. doh.gif

The stereo widening gives the music a 3D or a more spacious sound when played via the earphones. Most noticeable is via the HPM-70 but I switch it off, it sounded terrible with all the echo. Like listening to music in a toilet. cool.gif Hahaha.

For those Java games, RM5 is reasonable, I know you get thousands of ahem ones on a dvd but you must understand that the development of a mobile Java game is more than the amount you paid for your SE K800i, the RM5 charged is not too much to ask actually. When piracy is rampant, developers will be discouraged to produce mobile Java games anymore especially when they're easily available and can't be protected at all.

I have tried it and it's so far so good but the quality will take a hit if you're in a poor lighting condition, it's not only for this phone but other 3G phones as well. As long as your 3G coverage is good, the video will be smooth and the sound doesn't lag. It's operator dependent for this case. smile.gif

the problem with 3g now is not the phones...it's the coverage....sigh.

Coverage might be limited but at least the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor has 3G coverage, it will slowly expand to other states. It's a right move to concentrate in areas whereby 3G coverage is useful to the user base. Imagine if they were to have 3G in the East Coast first, I don't think even Niz Aziz has a K800i to utilize it. tongue.gif

QUOTE(akxj @ Jan 17 2007, 12:10 AM)
you are quite ignorant to say that lo .. firstly, maxis already has no discount rates for 3G, never mind digi that dont even have 3G .. i know LOADS of people out there with a 3g phone but havent utilize them yet.. our lyn members make up 30% ..? swt ..

anyway .. say what you want to say .. no point arguing on this ..
*
There are so many family, data and personal packages from Maxis and even Hotlink has their 3G promotion extended till this March, they have already started the ball rolling and of course, Celcom too, they're also doing the same too. Never mind if you're using DiGi, I doubt that they will get a 3G license. Honestly, if you're using DiGi, there's no use to get a K800i in the first place because you're under utilizing your resources. It's like getting a NVIDIA 8800GTX to surf the net instead of playing games. Most people are using Maxis so in other words, if their area has 3G coverage, their sim cards are automatically 3G ready, I know video calls are expensive but at least it takes a shorter time to send a mms or even to download a Java game or you can use your mobile phone as a modem for your laptop to surf at 3G, 2.5G or 2G speeds.

QUOTE(mkhee @ Jan 17 2007, 10:56 AM)
