Okay .. lets make this the most helpful thread. the thread to help people look for the MOST fuel efficient car available in Malaysia.

So the 650 Kancil consume the less fuel of all cars in Malaysia? Well the car consume even less fuel when they come out with the DVVT model?

what about Chevy Spark, Smart for 2, Naza Sutera (Picanto), Kelisa or even Savvy and Inokom Getz.

Proton Savvy is now rated as the most fuel-efficient car in Malaysia as verified by Malaysian Book of Records during an on-road test by Proton with the average fuel consumption of about 24 km/L (or about RM0.08/km of fuel), though Proton originally claimed that the average fuel economy was about 18 km/L.

The car doesn't burn that much fossil fuel, so isn't it fuel efficient?

Ermmm, shouldn't the car that's quoted to be fuel efficient be supported with actual facts and figures???

Nowdays ppl put more importance of FC rather than performance. sweat.gif

Gone to the days where 0-100 is the top priority. Now it is replaced by km/litter. sweat.gif

Smart ForTwo, Smart ForFour, and Savvy are really fuel-efficient.

Kelisa my brother says fuel-efficient also, but I'm not so sure about it. Just wanna ask you all, is Savvy more fuel-efficient than Kelisa or the other way around?

Naza Sutera is not Picanto btw. Naza Suria is Picanto, and if it's Kia Picanto, they say makan petrol like minum air only. Not sure about Naza's one though.

Hmm Korean cars are not really good when it comes to fuel consumption ... so Inokom Getz might not be too fuel-efficient too since it is actually Hyundai Getz. But I'm really not sure because they might have change the engine (like now there's only 1.4L) instead of the Hyundai one where there's 1.3L and 1.6L if I'm not mistaken.

Chevvy Spark ah ... never hear anyone mention it before and I also don't have it ... so ... dunno ...

There's always other alternatives too ... like Honda cars with IDSI engines ... like City and Jazz. Good to drive too hehe

Oh, how about the new Perodua car, Viva I think? Any news about it?

i guess you've not been browsing around the FC related threads in F&F forum to actually notice the pattern huh?

2 cars that always get praise for FC.

1. Honda City I-DSI version
2. Proton SAVVY.

other cars worth mentioning (i think) are
1. Perodua Kelisa (which model i donno.....)
2. Toyota VIOS
3. Perodua Myvi

these models are based on what i remember when i browse those FC related threads, so feel free to find out more.

as to Kancil 650 - small CC doesn't mean better FC. you have to compare it to the car's weight. and i've not come by praise for Kancil 650 FC, Kelisa 1.0 on the other hand is known to have good FC.

the new FL getz got better mpg , 4.9liter/100km.. not bad.., this is not just a plain statement, they even tested it to prove it.

old news actually, but worth to check.

Savvy's Renault D4F was developed as a fuel saving engine

http://www.renault.com/renault_com/en/imag...1120-305971.doc

new D4F
[quote]TCE 100 - a new petrol engine engineered for driving pleasure and low fuel consumption [/b

The beginning of 2007 will see Renault release its new petrol 1.2-litre TCE 100 engine aimed at the A- and B-segment models of its range. [b]Engineered for driving pleasure, it combines the fuel consumption of an engine of its size with the power of a 1.4-litre block and the torque of a 1.6-litre powerplant.
Equipped with a low inertia turbo, it has been developed with a view to becoming the new benchmark in terms of performance and fuel consumption for its size. Its fuel consumption of just 5.9 litres/100km and CO2 emissions of just 140g/km make it a particularly fuel efficient and environmentally-friendly engine in readiness for the anticipated upturn in interest in petrol engines when the Euro5 standard comes into effect.

A turbo and 16 valves for genuine punch
Renault will use this new engine - known as "TCE 100" - to power both Modus and Clio, as well as Twingo's replacement which is due in 2007. Developed from the 1.2 16V 75hp block, it is equipped with a low inertia turbo that ensures minimal lag thanks to its small diameter turbine and compressor. Its maximum power of 100hp and peak torque of 145Nm are available at 5,500rpm and 3,000rpm respectively. The marriage of a small cubic capacity and a low inertia turbo ensures lively response from low revs, while maximum torque is available from low engine speeds and remains available across a broad rev-band. The turbocharger includes an "overpower" feature which temporarily boosts power output in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears at engine speeds of more than 4,500rpm (5hp extra power and 6Nm extra torque).

Some 30 per cent of the TCE 100's components are new compared with the 75hp block. The new engine also benefits from several evolutions, notably sodium cooled valves for enhanced resistance to heat, oil jet-cooled pistons and optimized cylinder head cooling. The injectors, sparkplugs and coil are all specific to the TCE 100, while its sump is made from aluminium.

The four-into-one exhaust manifold has been carefully designed to optimize the flow of exhaust gases in order to maximize the delivery of energy to the turbine. Meanwhile, a tumble-effect movement of the air inside the cylinders favours combustion speed for enhanced chamber-filling efficiency and improved stability when idling.

A fuel efficient, environmentally-friendly engine
With a cubic capacity of 1,149cc, this small engine enables Modus and Clio to claim record combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.9 litres/100km, a figure to which its low idling speed of 650rpm contributes. With CO2 emissions homologated at 140g/km, the TCE 100 engine will also contribute to the "CAFE 2008" commitment made by Renault to achieve average CO2 emissions for its range of 140g/km by 2008. This engine is also a response to the anticipated revival in interest for petrol engines compared with small diesels when the Euro5 standard comes into effect in Europe.

The TCE 100 will be coupled to a manual five-speed gearbox. It is produced in Douvrin which has a weekly production capacity of 13,500 1.2-litre engines. Renault invested 80 million euros in its development.

TCE 100 engine - Technical Characteristics

Engine type D4Ft
Cubic capacity (cc) 1,149
Bore x Stroke (mm) 69 x 76.8
Number of cylinders / valves 4 / 16
Compression ratio 9.5:1
Maximum power (kW EEC / hp) 74 /100
at (rpm) 5,500
Maximum torque (Nm EEC) 145
at (rpm) 3,000
Maximum engine speed (rpm) 6,300
Injection type Multi-point sequential
Idling engine speed 650rpm
Emission standard Euro4

Yes you are quite right. Even the new Mercedes S-class had better emissions than the Prius. But I read in this forum before. A Prius selling for 200k. I think for fuel efficient car and decent performance, the Savvy (AMT or manual) would be a good choice.

A Prius would be more fuel efficient in the city than in the highway.

@ hypermount.
Will this new turbo engine be available with a purchase of a Savvy? drool.gif

Not for all though. FC is the last thing I consider when it comes to buying a car. For me, budget > looks > performance.

Cars such as kancil and kelisa are already very very reasonable on fuel consumption. Drive sensibly, mind your right foot and you can save yourself more km per-liter. What more do all these people want from a car actually? Car that runs on water and air with gold coming out from the exhaust?

hmm interesting .. actually the only Proton models i am soon ngan with are Savvy and Satria Neo .. dunno why, maybe the change of management .. but then that is way too late and Proton has been consistently and systematically killing consumer confidence since the last 20 years. Anyhow, i still think Savvy and MyVi are rediculously overpriced! drop few Ks Savvy would not be a bad choice after all.

IMO Savvy is still ok, you get AMT and stuff like that for around RM 40k.

i personally find Kancil 650 overpriced. a fresh-grad is not likely to able to afford even a 1st hand of the lowest spec Malaysian made car.
