Yes you are quite right. Even the new Mercedes S-class had better emissions than the Prius. But I read in this forum before. A Prius selling for 200k. I think for fuel efficient car and decent performance, the Savvy (AMT or manual) would be a good choice.

A Prius would be more fuel efficient in the city than in the highway.
