I'm not a JPA scholar for undergraduate studies, but because i did dentistry, we had to serve 3 years compulsory service in the govt.
While i was in service I applied for Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan to do my Masters in Oral Surgery. When I go back, I'm bonded 7 years, which is pretty reasonable as the cost for my studies here will come up to a cool RM1million. How to payback??!?!?

So yes, there are still opportunities for postgraduate studies while in govt service. It's not as bad as people make it out to be.

Good luck with your choices.

It is said that JPA will only take back 30% of their scholars to serve the government upon graduation. And most of the time this 30% consists of mainly bumiputras.

A lot non-bumi think that if they work for government, the pay are very low compare to private sector, besides that the chances to get promotion is low compare to bumi.

Does the JPA bond cover working for GLCs? From discussions about work with Petronas, I gather that it does.

Please enlighten. Thanks.

I would say "yes, you should take". I think you think too much, a lot of people think it'not worth it working with government. In my opinion, I think they think too much, because now or even in future , it's not easy to find a job outside. Since, the govenment will offer a job for you..and why not?
Also, you will finish your studies without financial problems. It's really great , you know. You are really lucky if compared to others.
Last time, I also think too much as you, so I didn't give it a try. that is I didn't apply. I feel regretted now. If i were you, I wouldn't let it happened again.
I am currently waiting for my STPM result, although there's no more JPA scolarship , I think I would try all other scolarship that offered to STPM students.

A LOT of my friends are JPA scholars. One advise: If you're very anti gov, don't go. Just like me but i did went for the JPA interview last year. The food there (UITM, UTM) sucks, u MUST wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to school everyday. No jeans, no shorts. U cannot skip class at all. U will have to go for some brainwashing talks, telling u how grateful u should be and how great our gov is, asking u to stay loyal to msia gov forever.

since when do UTM JPA scholarship holders need to wear long sleeves? jangan bawak cerita karut laa. food sucks in UTM? u sure? coz we dont have canteen based food services, but we have contract vendors. if u dont like one stall, go to the next one.

people should start educating themselves between anti-government and anti-BN. those who end up in ISA are usually people who couldnt differentiate. since JPA is handing out money, TAKE it. they ask for u to be loyal to the government, not BN. means that if there were any change of gvment, u will still be loyal to malaysia and serve for the best of her. what's wrong with being patriotic?

When you go overseas and once you have seen the opportunities on offer, I do not know if you guys will still have the same opinion in working for the government.

Every year, we can read reports on scholars saying that they will return and blah blah blah.......but when they have spent 3 years in a good university overseas with reasonable grades, besides seeing prospects of being employed by a big firm with good perks and remuneration, last but not least, a distant possibility of a PR in a particular country, they sure would regret what they have said.

Feynman,

What is the problem in your scenerio? In that case, a person would have earn enough money to pay off the JPA scholarship and they will not have to work for the government.

Loyalty is to the country not to the government.
