You are very lucky indeed to get a scholarship..You have to understand that scholarship is a privileges given to a very few select people such as you..Anyway,what's the problem with working with the government after graduating? You get a stable job and income. Also, the contract is probably not longer than 5 years unless you are taking medic courses. In fact,I know a lot a friend who is a JPA scholarship holder who doesn't get a job with the government after 6 month graduating and have been released from the contract..However,if you don't want it,there is a thousand more who probably deserve it more than you.

My brother is taking a civil engineering so if the government needs or calls for his service, I don't see any problems working with the government. Stable income and got a lot of incentives.

I regretted for not applying for JPA scholarship.

of course take it, normally government wont job have you in the end, if can then take both. Because the jpa money sure not enuf to use, some time they will give u free ptptn coz of good result. My fren took but no need to bond for government i think. And one thing is, u think government job not good? haha, tats wrong, a lot of private ppl will come for you just to get news from u ~

When you go overseas and once you have seen the opportunities on offer, I do not know if you guys will still have the same opinion in working for the government.

Every year, we can read reports on scholars saying that they will return and blah blah blah.......but when they have spent 3 years in a good university overseas with reasonable grades, besides seeing prospects of being employed by a big firm with good perks and remuneration, last but not least, a distant possibility of a PR in a particular country, they sure would regret what they have said.

I don't know about you guys, but to me scholarship should be given to poor students. If you can afford to think whether or not to accept then you must probably be well-off enough not to take it.Also, when people give you money for free, they are entitled to expect something from you.In this case, you shouldn't grumble if you have to work with the government.Besides, you will be serving the country and getting paid for it...

For me, i will take if there is no other scholarship available. I'm currently a local JPA scholar, and i heard that not everyone will be called back for work.

Depends on the course i guess...if u're a JPA scholar doin Medicine,Dentistry bla bla bla then Yes, u will be bonded with the government for 10 years!! 10 years man!! Imagine...

For JPA loan holders, the maximum loan u can ask for is 200K and if you agree to pay back by installment when u start working, you don't havta work under the goverment. SAme goes if you are to be paying for yourself. If you are not able to pay back the loan then Yes, you will have to serve the government for 10 years..there's a contract for it!!

Some courses don't need you to work with the government kot...like engineering...ntah la i'm not sure abt dat....but MEdical courses is like the above!! But seriously speaking, a scholarship is a scholarship, its not easy to get...ppl will say u're crazy if you dont take it...how i wish i got JPA scholarship jugak!! U're really lucky you know that!! Here are few questions for you.

1. What is the course you are offered/plan to take?
2. Is it local or abroad?

I was offered JPA scholarship to study abroad, but I've rejected it and opt to Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) scholarships which have almost the same bonding rules which is 2 times of sponsorship duration. Being bond is fine with me, if and only if I get to do what I've learned in my degree, but in most private scholarship that wasn't really the case as they have all the rights to give any job to you, even the one that has nothing to do with you degree anyway.

Btw, be reminded, that if you plan to study offshore, and you think that you might not want to work with the government, then stay abroad while paying it. I've heard from some lecturers that back in 2000, the sponsorship are usually amount up to USD 100K which is equivalent to almost RM 400K. If you plan to pay while working not for the government in Malaysia. You could have half of a million after you manage to pay the debt.

on issues of paying back to JPA via working bond, usually those who didnt get to be called out to work with gvment are those who applied for an alternative payback once they graduated. the bonding with gvment is quite a flexible deal. i've got friends already working here in the UK who were sponsored by JPA.

they struck a deal with JPA and agreed to pay everything back. although not everyone will get this deal. it highly depends on ur field of study. for example, if there arent any gvment departments for ur field (lets say quantum mechanics or some far off physics), and there's a place for u to work abroad for a period of time, u can opt to buy back ur contract.

but if u're doing chemical engineering, where there's a lot of those assumingly needed in malaysia/petronas, then u'd have to fulfill ur contract.

u wil only need to work for jpa for courses like med and dentistry lah...others they dun need u one...they even tell u u can gain exp in that country before come back...and u come back to serve the country...not abt the bond...and if u r goin for med and dentistry, the bond u serve is a very good chance for experience what...so just accept lah...be a good son/daughter...=)
