is USG alone good enough as a basic unifi router up to 800Mbps?
or need to consider better router like edgerouter or USG pro?

Is there any seller provide warranty for Amplifi HD? So far I notice the sellers from Lazada, Shopee and Presto import from oversea.
*

It's kind of similar with what i saw on demo.ui.com. Thanks for sharing.

Will the total download/upload Bytes reset back to 0 if

1. the devices reconnect to the network?
2. restart router?
*
total download and upload bytes will be reset depends with devices active time (restart) it will reset the total if i not mistaken.
Does it matter to see total download and upload? so far, what important is, it will compile on the the dashboard which device / client are most active.

QUOTE(ntc3freak @ Sep 18 2019, 05:13 PM)
Hey guys,

I'm looking for some advices here. A little bit of a background, I am currently living in a condo with TIME Fiber 500 Mbps internet, using a Netgear Nighthawk R8500 as my main router, with a Ubiquiti AC-LR to extend the range to the farthest bedrooms. Right now, I am taping down the ethernet cable on the floor and ceiling from the router to the AP.

Two things are about to happen in the near future; moving into a new condo (renting a bigger unit, may potentially potentially pose a bigger issue for Wi-Fi), and getting married. As such, I am in search of a more aesthetically pleasing solution than my current one, as the new setup will have to be wife-approved and not the cincai solution it is now haha. This is where I need help from you guys.

I have been looking at a few of the Wi-Fi mesh systems, especially the AmplifiHD and the eeros, but both seem to have their own issues, and neither have official support in Malaysia.

So now I am back to thinking of going full Unifi (or maybe Mikrotik or Ruckus???) setup, but then comes the question of how do I hide all the ethernet cables? Any of you have experience with this, especially in rented properties? Would appreciate any help I can get  biggrin.gif

Amplify Mesh can be bought locally.. just that do not have ready stock....

Does the gaming edition really have better hardware/software to offer better performance or is it just simply prioritising gaming devices (QoS basically)? In either case, can PM me your prices for both.

A question I have with these Mesh systems though. Will I be able to saturate my 500Mbps connection? Also, does the roaming feature work well?
*
gaming edition sometimes just a gimic, sometimes, its network latency could be better optimization and have better gaming experience.. some of it, slightly expensive due to licensing with certain braind such as nvdia experience.. other than that.. no idea....

Mesh system you need to know some advantage and disadvantage. Good things is, no need lay cable, just need power point to power up the AP, however, you will sacrifice bandwidth. each hop will lose every 50% network performance... however, you cant measure this speed by using speedtest.net laugh.gif

guys, I was wondering, can connect unifi line to something like ubiquiti usg pro 4? thru sfp port (mayb like a transceiver)

or must use edgerouter
*
i was thinking this thing earlier... somehow, its not working... guess PON sfp have ID tagging, thats why need ONT.
it still need go router.. usg pro 4 is a router... that sfp is for uplink it seems

That's it for the switch?

Means I need to configure the port on Fortigate to sent the VLAN over to the switch?

Now the fortigate port 7 is configure for Guest Access. So let say I want to use port 8 on fortigate, I need to config the port the same as port 7 in order to have VLAN 2 working on the swith?

Apologize, I'm damn confuse also on my question hahaha.

Does basic "Guest Isolation" setting on the UniFi switch good enough?
*
yes... guest isolation on unifi switch is good.. but fortigate even better since it is proper firewall...

if fortigate has been configured vlan, it should be fine, since unifi switch is trunking by default.

yes...

but if needed, let it give all vlan, then you do routing on switch and port isolatation.. should be fine... since anything after fortigate will be back to fortigate. laugh.gif

let just say I buy 1 unifi ap and the asus I just set it as an "ap mode" which do you think more reliable and how about wifi range?

I assume in term of reliability definitely unifi ap how about wifi range?

as for trademark u mean "unifi" belongs to TM? why they haven't sue yet lol?
*
its already settle for a year.... no more issue on trademark.

1 unifi AP vs asus... i would say.. any enterprise solution which is scalable will definitely reliable.. but if it just 1 unit, hardly to say.. range, depends with AP model.. UAP AC LR have long range up to 50m (still going strong) even it was place indoor(room include partition and blockage). this i can vouched it as i personally test it my ownself. asus, never own 1, so idk..

tq for info.

I'll probably buy a unifi ap + all the needed stuff: usg router, cloudkey, firewall etc

have to learn again lol looking forward to learning from all sifu!

anyway definitely prefer unifi ap over asus both got pro n con of cause but for reliability I would probably choose unifi ap.

also they are quite affordable too!
*
tbh... it is quite costly... but, in terms of support, security patches.. and improvement form time to time.. yes.. this ubnt ap is better choice.
good setup you have there..
i have edge router lite + mesh AP only.. laugh.gif
1 WAN port, 1 LAN port for PC, last port for AP.. laugh.gif

its more affordable as compared to the gila price of cisco!

setting up for a job actually not my for myself

I just use a lowly asus for my home lol... blush.gif
*
indeed... but paying for a price that features not even use, kinda wasted.. if fully utilized, i still find that, cisco is the best.... in terms of analytics.... still lead and win on this part.
